The flexibility. I enjoy having access to a system that allows us to design digital workflows that work with our labs. In the past, with much more rigid systems, it was more re-work of laboratory practices to work with a system. Not with this ELN! In addition, utilizing agile workflows, we were able to test and implement individual workflows as well as to test integrations along the way! Couple this with a great team at Sapio - it makes all the difference! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Obviously having a more open software leads to the introduction of bugs. This is more of a fact of life, then a downside of this particular ELN. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sapio comes with a lot of good to decent apps out of the box that work within our system. What's especially great though is the fact that we can add our own plugins and webhooks that interface with our other information databases and accurately map out our experiments. I really dislike the documentation of how Sapio Apps work. Most of the App Setup backend is obtuse and can require either a lot of trial and error or multiple demos to fully grasp, and that's just for 1 user. If we have to train another user then we have to rely on our own documentation or try to refer to the barebones Exemplar End User Documentation.
Thankfully, over the last year there has been a concerted and much appreciated effort from Sapio to expand their documentation and simply our ability to ask questions. The Sapio Sciences Support Portal is a great step forward, but still lacks much of the necessary documentation for specific apps. I look forward to more pages written within it. Sapio provides a foundation - the platform that guarantees the reliable storage of records. There is a ton of tools they provide on top of that for keeping track of experiments, materials, and data. The tools are inherently customizable so that we get process tracking to match our specialized workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sapio documentation does not provide best practices for the use of their tools. In fact we have to try and test things to figure out what practices to adopt. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The web-based access allows access from any instrument in the lab. This is great for rapidly uploading data at the point of creation into the database. The fundamental ability of the system to represent complex biological workflows is the single most important and attractive feature of this system. Combined with the ability to tune it to our specific needs, this makes data tracking for large numbers of entities very easy in the system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Building views and generating reports is a little too dependent on the support from the team. While we appreciate the rapid turnaround and fantastic product support, features that allow us to glean data as is from the system would be nice to have in the future. Sapio LIMS is versatile and flexible. It allows large, complex workflows and processes with the ability to modify and enhance with minimal effort or impact to current process. It has the ability to handle high throughput complex lab workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Potential performance disadvantages if data hierarchy is not set up. Only use relational database without ability to utilize object database. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sapio LIMS ELN was able to adapt and customize their product to our specific design needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some features are too complicated to adopt. Not easy to use in the beginning. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sapio system is very customizable to meet the labs workflows. The development teams are engaged and great to work with. The application is very user friendly and has a clean modern design Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Custom Charts for dashboards are very limited to what can be selected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sapio has a very flexible datamodel we can configure ourselves through the UI. And the API covers almost every part of the LIMS, even record types we define ourselves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Patient-related functionality isn't straight out of the box and needs to be customized. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sapio is one of the most customizable platforms I have ever had the opportunity to use! Our current use is pushing the platform's capabilities to its limits, and it is succeeding at delivering our ELN needs. My experience using this platform is pretty positive thus far. However, there is a steep learning curve when it comes to learning the fundamentals and the features available for a particular solution. That being said, customizing how your data is stored, related, and found is extremely useful. Finding data is very easy once you understand the search functionality. I would recommend this platform to anyone who needs high customizability when it comes to an ELN solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The biggest issue I have with Sapio is the lack of training documentation. It took me nearly three months of constant trial and error before the system started making sense to me. What elevated my understanding of the platform was being directed during support calls and tickets. If you are considering Sapio as your ELN of choice I would make sure to have ample time to learn the platform and what features will be available to you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
How easy and intuitive it is to write API's to integrate at specific invocation points. Not having to deal with front end developement is also a huge plus. Audit log is very helpful, and the Sapio Admin Tools helps in on the fly support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can be slow given our particular user volume and networking setup, especially since we offices cross multiple states accessing (at least with version 21.8). Ability to perform validation testing is very difficult so as to meet compliance standards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
