It is an SAP MDM solution and is ideal for medium and large clients who have SAP landscape for their Master data management. The standard Material, Customer, Vendor data models are easy to set up with well-built flexibility of using BRF plus workflow to design parallel approvals.

Having delivered more than 3 SAP MDG Custom data model and Global MDG-M solutions, SAP MDG is robust MDM solution which integrates very well with Integration solutions like Mulesoft, AWS providing inbuilt standard APIs and message types.

SAP MDG though has all standard Master Data models, the Data Quality Analysis, Data consolidation tools are not inbuilt and it requires external SAP solutions like SAP Information steward, Data Services, and other data quality tools to get insight into data harmonization and consolidation feasibility as the MDG consolidation is not matured.
MDG consolidation feature for Mass options is not straightforward as only File upload is available out of the box.
There is no BOM Governance data model in SAP MDG, which is a major gap especially for implementation around consumer goods clients.
SAP MDG Custom data models can be cumbersome if requirements are complex.
SAP MDG requires org set up for complete usage of its capabilities providing governance. But many companies with BPO models might find SAP MDG a bit draining. So it mainly fits the traditional workflow set up with Organization model setups and fails to have flexibility to cater to different business models unlike Informatica or IBM MDM Infosphere solutions. Our primary use for the product is for master data management and the company IP.

Overall, they just a little bit more flexibility in terms of assigning roles or adding new roles. We have a longer approval process, so we need to break it down into more roles than what is typically available and we need to hard-code it.
