It has a full spectrum capability to perform Demand Planning, Time Series Supply Planning, integrated S&OP, Order based Response and Supply and monitor the supply chain using its Supply Chain Control Tower. While IBP enables long to medium term planning in a robust manner, its short term production planning capabilities are still evolving. Overall its a great tool to weave the long term strategic intent into the medium term tactical plans and eventually the near term operational planning. Its integration with SAP tools is quite native and its user interface, especially the integrated excel worksheets are quite superlative and flexible enough to provide the planner her most trusted views of the supply chain data. Its cloud based service model ensures a faster implementation, saves costs and ensures quicker end user adoption which is the most critical aspect for any technology investment. In the demand planning arena, it can perform a basic uni-variate statistical forecast and scale up to short term demand sensing using some of the most advanced algorithms leveraging Machine Learning. To balance the supply and demand it can perform a profit or cost optimization considering all capacities, demands, constraints at the same time drawing upon prices and costs to drive the time series optimization engine. The S&OP is driven through a series of views and enabling analytics based on the various streams of data which allows what-if analysis, storing intermediate results and comparing the various scenarios to arrive at the most prominent ones which will eventually be adopted for an S&OP cycle. The Supply Chain Control Tower enables a thorough event based monitoring of the supply network thus filtering out the critical occurrences based on a predefined criteria in a visual format to the planner. The short term planning doesn't support Make-to-Order strategies and it renders itself difficult to adopt for companies which have this mode of fulfillment. 2. The integration capabilities with S/4 HANA especially for prices and cost data are very basic and should evolve to ensure a complete integration of the Financial and Operations world. 3. There are quite a few limitations in modeling capacities of warehousing and transport. 4. The algorithms are not flexible and cannot be adapted to all supply chain situations, especially for Natural Resources companies focused on mining and metals. 5. The algorithms and its outputs cannot be easily interpreted, it needs an operations research background to fully understand and leverage it. However with appropriate consulting partner the same can be overcome to an extent. 6. The excel add on is really good. We still need templates but its very easy for the planners to learn and upskill to. The output is good and fast. Simulations are nice. The backend setup is also quite neat. SAP is really pushing hard on the adoption of the tool so will really help and support with the implementation or POC process. **What do you dislike about SAP Integrated Business Planning?** I have been an extensive SAP APO user with implementation, support as well as user experience. Except for the extensive usability benefit, I see little more in the new tool. Lot of functionalities are still missing or being built.
