What do you like best about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Corecon V8 has an impressive breadth of features that cover essentially every process or function we perform in managing our work and running the business. Combined with their Corecon Link utility and an accounting program, this software could truly be a firm’s “quiver killer” solution for construction PM. Corecon V8 integrates departments, processes, and data that would otherwise be separate and disconnected, thus reducing the potential for inaccuracies that is inherent with doing a lot of manual data entry or having work flows split between Office and the plethora of niche PM tools and apps available nowadays.

With its database pedigree, Corecon V8 excels at putting our data to work for us. The various import functions saved us a ton of time during initial setup, and the plethora of export and reporting options is really satisfying from a QC and project analysis point of view. The software’s built-in report/analysis templates and dashboards make visualizing data and examining trends efficient and painless.

Furthermore, this database framework minimizes re-entries and time-consuming data updates by enabling strong interoperability between the various modules and features. The paths our data will take through the different modules are well-designed and sensible; this is clearly a solution designed by contractors, for contractors.

On that subject, we have found that many programs that aim to be comprehensive PM solutions fall short in that they become so powerful and unwieldy that using them becomes a tedious chore. Despite its impressive range of features— and the depth of detail possible within those features— Corecon avoids this pitfall by making the underlying system logic very accessible to the average user. Their process diagrams and detailed support articles provide clear guidance on how to interact with the system to ensure cross-module functionality and accuracy.

For a given function or process, the corresponding Corecon support resource will almost always include a graphic or concise verbiage to tell the user, “OK, this is what this field represents, this is the allowable format for data, and these are the connections and logic rules that govern how this data is used elsewhere in the system.” As a junior PM professional, this also helps me understand how these processes and data sets relate out in the real world too.

As a result, the software feels very intuitive and enjoyable to interact with, and we have found it relatively easy to implement by following their detailed implementation plans. I am pleased with the level of quality and detail in each of their support articles/videos and I have had pleasant interactions with Corecon’s staff when I’ve had to ask for help.

Finally, the TeamLink Portal is a unique innovation I have not encountered before. It allows external stakeholders and team members to view and (if permissioned) interact with some project records. As the Project Coordinator, I foresee this feature saving me a lot of time by reducing the number of inbound check-ups and status requests that I must handle. What do you dislike about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

I haven’t found anything I dislike about the software yet. We’ve had to adjust (and improve!) how some of our processes are done, but that is to be expected with implementing a solution of this scope.

One thing I would really enjoy would be tooltip help boxes with links to the main KB. Page and feature headers already have a help icon that links quickly to the relevant documentation though. But maybe a tooltip textbox with a brief snippet and then a ‘More…’ hyperlink might be nice, but that’s really just my personal preference. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon):

I suggest that other firms involve an executive representative from each department or group within an organization that will interact with or be affected by Corecon's inputs or outputs. I feel that the likelihood of a successful implementation is much higher if all stakeholders are represented during the review and demo phase, rather than forcing that buy-in during implementation. What problems is Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon) solving and how is that benefiting you?

I’m sure the same is also true for our architect and superintendent, but I’m seeing a lot of payoff relating to my own responsibilities:

Change control – Corecon has helped us formalize and improve our change control process. Using the CO, SCO, and PO/WO functions, we’ve been able to establish a more explicit paper trail for change requests, thus enabling us to better manage the impact those changes have on project budget, schedule, and resource allocation.

Document and version control – Even with Office 365 and OneDrive, documents and revision versions are still prone to being mishandled or misfiled. Corecon’s structured environment enables us to tie records to their corresponding projects or leads, and its data interoperability capabilities means its easy to see how those records are changed or used as they move through their lifecycle.

Financial analytics and reporting – I am still digging into this feature, but even using some test data and the built-in templates, our internal stakeholders have been impressed by the amount of detail and clarity we can achieve in these reports and dashboards. That, in turn, helps us gain a more intuitive understanding of project cash flow and manage it more accurately.

Scheduling – Personally, I can count 4 or 5 different to-do and scheduling tools I use. Corecon is helping me tighten up my coordination responsibilities thanks to its built-in date, calendar, and alert functions. It also has built-in Gantt. Being able to tie dates and scheduling needs to individual records or processes is a serious boon. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

What is was told it could do. But, come to find out it cannot yet. The time keeping will not sync. The prime contract will not sync. Most employees will not use it due to the fact that it just spins. The plans will not load. We cannot switch to multiple plan pages. Can't scroll over on the same plan. This needs fixed asap. The program is almost not usable. We have to used onedrive to view plans because it's not practical on sage. It could be a great software. Right now I seriously regret switching from procore. If it did what I was told it would do and if it didn't spin the whole time it would be good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Corecon is organized, integrates well with my Planswift software, and contains all the elements we need to quote and complete orders. I believe we use Quickbooks for accounting, but Corecon does generate invoices, POs, quotes, etc. which generally very little effort. I love the way it integrates with my other software for quoting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Sometimes it can be slow, and lately it's been kicking me out. Not sure if they're working on those issues. Sometimes navigation between leads can be clunky as well, which is frustrating. It definitely has a learning curve, but if someone is already used to working with similar industry products, it's not that hard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon):

Corecon is a powerful tool for those who need an all-around construction site/program to keep everything simplified. Excel documents are easily imported from your takeoff software for easy quoting, and the few issues I have personally had with it do not detract from the overall usefulness of the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon) solving and how is that benefiting you?

I like the lead number integration--plays well with Planswift and BuildingConnected. Before working here, I had never used lead numbers with projects and cases. This has really opened my eyes to the usefulness of a system using numbers! The metrics are also useful for seeing my progress as an estimator as well as our company as a whole. We use the different reports in our weekly meetings to track submittals, open issues, weekly / monthly / yearly sales goals and accomplishments, and other items. What do you like best about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Corecon while great in its depth of value it also is extremely user-friendly. The software is easy to navigate through for all of my site supervisors as well as myself. Webinar's on a weekly basis to ensure that any questions that you have are answered through there, as well as any emails to tech support are always responded to in a very prompt manner.

I am greatly looking forward to seeing the data that we've collected as a company to refine our estimating skills, and fully take advantage of everything that Corecon has to offer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

The information regarding custom log reports could use a bit of work branching between the different systems of Corecon. IE. Allowing a custom log report to pull information from Time and Expenses instead of having to split Time into one report and Expenses into a second report. *Albeit, the reports work extremely well on their own Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon):

If you are to use Corecon, then the biggest key factor we found was the setting up of the Job Cost Code database. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon) solving and how is that benefiting you?

Corecon has turned the information of expenses/labor vs. contract amounts in a beautiful layout to be fine-tuned to provide better pricing for clients without sacrificing profit for the company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Corecon provided so much flexibility that it took administrative time internally to create a company workflow process. I have used many software products and would much prefer the flexibility that Corecon makes available versus submitting a change request for basic programming functions. This is a very user friendly system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Corecon offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to customizing the certain aspect of this platform. I find it that the user interface is pretty easy to follow and matches my thought process. After trying out different platforms I really enjoy using it. The pricing structure is very reasonable and their support team is the best. The knowledge base and instructional videos are awesome. The admin interface gives you a lot of control over who has access to what.

The correspondence modules are awesome. Creating meeting agenda and minutes are a breeze. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon)?

Although a lot of time was spent on the overall platform, I find that many aspects of the interface remain unpolished. Simple things like confirmation boxes that the message had been sent aren't there. If you save something, you don't get any prompts. When you get an error message, often time it's super cryptic and doesn't give any information on what needs to be done to resolve the issue. In some instances, you need to press the Save button to save the information, another time you don't do anything and the web interface will save the information for you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Sage Construction Management (formerly Corecon):

You have to give it a chance. At first, it will be very hard to find your way around this software. Once you learn it, you'll really enjoy using it. BUT, it will be challenging at the beginning. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really enjoy using this platform when engaging subcontractors for ITBs, RFPs, etc. It helps me to stay organized. Client reporting.
