**What do you like best about Rocket Enterprise Server?**

Micro Focus Enterprise Server is one of the best tools that has come in the market which brings a revolution in the way people look at the legacy application. We have witnessed cost savings of up to 60% by moving the application from the legacy mainframe. This brings most of the legacy applications to fit in without even giving a feel of the interface. It has a good capability of integration with legacy sub-systems and newer platform which brings added features at no cost.

**What do you dislike about Rocket Enterprise Server?**

The Micro Focus Enterprise Server is good in most aspects evolving every year we have been working for years but a few things that can bring more value when compared to the mainframe legacy are security, heaviness of the application, and stability with higher loads.
We have always been able to trade-off on these aspects considering cost and MF is evolving well on these aspects over years.

**What problems is Rocket Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is key for day-to-day business operations, development, and UAT testing, and one of the tools which are really live and tested hard for any organization's implementation to be called a success.
We have seen a major cut in cost 100% from development and UAT environment where multiple users can work parallelly on multiple regions/users with core licenses. The production environment has been pretty stable helping with cost-effectiveness by ~ 60%. We have used the system in banking, insurance, and many key domains and it has outperformed well.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rakesh P. | Mainframe Modernization Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Rocket Enterprise Server?**

1 - The best thing about Micro Focus Enterprise Server (MFES) is that it does what it claims.
2 - It is a significantly matured product, unlike many other mainframe emulation software in the market.
3 - It is a feature-rich product and provides good documentation about how to use it.
4 - The technical support team, or the professional services team, is very knowledgeable.

**What do you dislike about Rocket Enterprise Server?**

1 - It doesn't support a variety of languages, which makes the re-platforming projects hard, as the other languages have to re-written in COBOL or PL/I.
2 - The rrror messages are misleading in most cases. The diagnostics and troubleshooting are difficult.
3 - The performance of a re-platformed application is usually poor in the beginning, and lot of effort goes into fixing it.
4 - It is most expensive compared to all other competitive products.

**What problems is Rocket Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1 - This helps to get the COBOL or PL/I applications off mainframe, and run in distributed hardwared. Thereby saving the high running cost on mainframe. The saved money can then be utilized for more innovation.
2 - The migration is quicker, as compared to some of the options like rewriting the application in a totally new technology from scratch, or even using code converter to rewrite it.
3 - By moving to cloud, it also solves the scalability, resiliency, and availability requirements easily.

ES has the best GUI to manage legacy applications using a distributed architecture. Every version and patch update comes with a new feature and gives users new options to explore all possibilities.

I have seen less documentation and training videos in containerization and load balancing. I am also unaware if we can use tools like Jenkins to automate the CI/CD pipeline.
