Top Rated ResearchGate Alternatives

It is good, free software platforms that make a user to share research article, working projects and also helps to developed own profile which acts as a resume for the researchers so than people can track all the research information on one click. The best part of the software is that it notifies the user on the addition of articles and projects within the user community. It helps to follow the researcher who is working on the same type of project as well as on an interested project. It also auto connects the research article to the user profile if it belongs to them which are uploaded by any other user. Reading the open assess article directly through the research gate is one of the interesting features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think making groups of the researcher working on related projects and allowing them to share valuable ideas, information and files is lacking. Posting job vacancies on the project can also be developed which will be the strength of this site. The rest of all the experiences is awesome for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One of the primary sources for wider dissemination of scientific articles. Often the very latest in the developments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The necessary use of business email. The option go personal emails would be most welcome for an independent researcher. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Research Gate has a lot of valuable information but does not fill up your email account with advertisements and offers. Also if you want to stay on the free side of Research Gate you have a lot of benefits. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I do not dislike anything about Research Gate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is a good social network and a platform for scholars to know each other, and an effective gateway for job search and meeting like-minded people. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Being a social network seems like all it does, and thus a lot of information is inaccurate and outdated if that user is not actively maintaining the profile. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that you get to add researchers you like and follow their new articles and citations, because it works like an alert system in which you can follow the work within the fields and areas you are interested in. I also enjoy that I get to see if anyone read my papers through my profile. In my area (developmental psychology) this is a common site to have a profile on, so when you meet other researchers during networking events and conferences, you usually follow them after. This helps with keeping in touch with other researchers and maintaining your professional relationships. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I believe that this is more useful for researchers with a wider network. It's not necessarily a dislike, however since I don't have that many publications it's not very useful for me too see all my stats and how much I got read. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The comprehensive analysis of the desired field. You can get insights on various disciplines. You can also read news, publications, articles written by industry colleagues. It is interesting to see what others are working on especially people who are in the same field as you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No obvious shortcomings of the service. Everything seems to be well done. There are less users on Researchgate than there are on Linkedin. It is taking some time to gather momentum and attract a rather large crowd. A large number of disciplines available and you can really hone in on what you'd like to follow and read. Project logs could be very useful, but the implementation is very bad. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Their registration layout tries to be fancy by "Oh. Look how smart I am, just give me your institutional e-mail address, and I'll find your colleagues". "Oh you did gave an institutional e-mail which I don't recognize? Please wait request a free account, and wait for the 459 requests ahead of you."
This basically happened to me. A year ago, the institution I'm working in changed name, thus my e-mail changed, which Researchgate didn't recognize... Ok. I've waited to complete the requests in front of mine. After 10-20 minutes I was able to verify myself as a researcher. At least that was what I thought. I needed to provide an URL of one of my publication, and then guess what? "We have received your request and will get back to you soon."
Still waiting while writing this review... I've never experienced a registration process being such a hassle. I hope that after this request I will finally be able to use this for what I originally wanted. But I wouldn't be surprised if they would be asking for a birth certificate and blood sample...
And this leads us to my next point. I wanted to get a very old post from a project log. There is no possibility to search in a specific log. You have to scroll all the way back. But after 2-5 minutes of vigorous scrolling, they will "notice unusual traffic from your network", dropping you back to the newest post of the project log. 5 minutes wasted. After this you can go a bit further, then it drops you back again. Eventually, you will need to check a checkbox to "validate yourself", but the checkbox doesn't appear for me, and couldn't do anything until clearing the cookies.
I hope that registration solves this issue. But seriously, this is one of the worst systems I've ever needed to use.
PS: I've started the registration process 30 minutes, for now, still not being able to log in... All this because Researchgate failed to update its list of institutions, and catching up with the fact that "Hungarian Academy of Sciences Wigner Research Centre for Physics" is only "Wigner Research Centre for Physics" now, and the e-mail domain is not @wigner.mta.hu, but @wigner.hu. The best part of Researchgate is that one can find professionals dedicated to research in a wide variety of subjects in science. At the same time one can build a network of contacts that can share info with each other. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The app for iOS is not friendly for the user, I can't log in into my profile in my smartphone and I have to use Saffari instead, that can be solved creating a better app exclusively for iOS. Besides that, I would also like to have a better chat Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
