**What do you like best about Quintiq Production Planning Software?**

We implemented a custom business application for scheduling logistics traffic based on the Quintiq Production Planning Software platform, extended and developed on by Quintiq professional services. The end result provides a reliable and performant solution for modelling network capacity and laying down logistics schedules, and integrates with our downstream systems via modern asynchonronous messaging using HTTP for the message transport. The application is used 24x7 in our business to support 3 month planning, 1 week planning, and day of operations adjustments with a user base of about 100 concurrent users. We also rely on Quintiq customer support to provide analysis and defect fixes with the application, and they are responsive and effective. Overall we have ended up with a useful and easy to use application that automates the rework in scheduling letting our teams do more in less time and with less resources.

**What do you dislike about Quintiq Production Planning Software?**

We have had some growing pains with using the Quintiq Production Planning Software, as our business domain is complex and has many edge cases, some of which were not specified to the vendor prior to developing the software. As a result, it's been a long journey to address those emerging edge cases with the software after it was commissioned to production, but working with Quintiq has resulted in many of the rough edges being shined off now.

Having said that, I do dislike the approach to high-availability with the software, it is deployed in an active/passive cluster with a manual failover/restart required, so if the active node crashes we have to take an outage while waiting for the passive node to take over and come online. This process can take a long time if the integration message backlog is large, which often happens when a soft or hard crash is experienced.

**What problems is Quintiq Production Planning Software solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use the Quintiq Production Planning Software for a custom advanced planning and scheduling business application, to lay down rail traffic schedules to maximise network throughput and with minimal churn / schedule variance when the actual trains run. It has provided the business a way to optimise network throughput with automation, something they were not able to do manually prior to this application being developed and commissioned.
