It's not the smoothest running software and it's cloud functions are lacking but overall it's the best tool I've found so far. **What do you dislike about Quicken Home & Business?** I dislike the dated interface, and I also very much dislike the disjointed method for viewing your data in the cloud, or on the web. It's clunky and generally not reliable. **Recommendations to others considering Quicken Home & Business:** Try other offerings on the market, but if you want total flexibility, go with Quicken. **What problems is Quicken Home & Business solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quicken allows me to forecast future purchases/transactions in all my accounts so that I can have a "crystal ball" into the future when it comes to our finances. ### 2. Reconciling your accounts is very easy if you can maintain a consistent electronic connection with the financial institutions housing your accounts. Good syncing to the cloud using a relatively useful mobile app (mine is an Android phone). Plays nice with Microsoft's OneDrive, as a means of backing up your data. Manages to perform well even if your database includes decades of financial history. Most features operate intuitively and, when you have a question about something, there's a good community of fellow users to help with support. Good reporting capabilities, including the ability to create and update custom reports and to export their results to Excel. Good ability to create custom invoices and to manage client accounts and track client-based projects if yours is a small business. Good integration to a couple of other financial products offered by Quicken. **What do you dislike about Quicken Home & Business?** Annual subscription isn't cheap and discounts are not great and hard to come by. No particular loyalty discount for longtime users. Customer service can be slow and their advice is sometimes wrong (the user community can often provide a better solution). After so many years, it's sometimes surprising to see what kinds of transactions it mishandles (e.g., buy/sell of money market instruments and their use during cash sweeps within brokerage accounts). Sometimes poor separation of corporate assets from some kinds of reporting; be careful to set up expense and income categories to separate business and personal activities. It's not possible to share access with multiple users operating on separate PCs. **Recommendations to others considering Quicken Home & Business:** Good if you are managing several accounts of different kinds (checking, savings, investment, loans). **What problems is Quicken Home & Business solving and how is that benefiting you?** For those of you whose business accounting needs are smaller than those that merit a package such as QuickBooks, Quicken Home & Business provides a good solution to manage personal and business transactions in one place. It is essentially a double-entry system without the extra hand-tying that does with more sophisticated accounting systems. I've used it for several decades to manage several businesses. I haven't found any functions I've missed. **What do you dislike about Quicken Home & Business?** It does not have a payroll system or built-in accounts payable or receivables systems. With not much work, you can create your methods for each of these, but it's not the same as robust AR, AP, and PR systems. The graphs and insights are a great tool that me not knowing much about excel would never be able to do **What do you dislike about Quicken Home & Business?** With all the positive, here comes the negative, this software is just so buggy, sometimes I want to put my head through a wall, literally, it is so hard to get it to work the way you want to. I would have to say that sometimes the program does slow down a little bit, but thats because I found it does depend on your internet speed. Nice ability to track units of a building and tenant contact information. Ability to store leases all in one place. I see this might be valuable for people who rent a lot of properties but if you just have one or two it might be a bit overkill. **What do you dislike about Quicken Home & Business?** Difficult to get working properly and requires going back historically and "tagging" your transactions related to your units, which can be a big pain. Ultimately I really don't use many of the special features of the "Rental Property Manager" despite paying extra for them. Even the "Home & Business" edition is a bit overkill as you can really do what in terms of tracking profit using categories and custom reports, which is available in all Quicken versions. Rental Property Manager is a steep $165 which is pretty nuts considering it only adds a few minimal "management" features. **Recommendations to others considering Quicken Home & Business:** Evaluate "lower", less expensive versions of Quicken to see if the other versions meet your needs. I've heard good things about Propertyware, but since my whole financial life is in Quicken (for better or for worse -- mostly worse), i decided to use Quicken. **What problems is Quicken Home & Business solving and how is that benefiting you?** When you have a rental property it's important to get a handle on your P&L and this does work as advertised for that, i suppose. ### 39.
