## Qubole Reviews
  ### 1. Managing your cluster problems

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Russell L. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the fact that we can spin up different clusters for different purposes and all are managed through qubole. We don't have to deal with the headache of keeping our cluster up and running.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I don't like certain features of the python SDK and the notebooks are not as reliable as hoped.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ETL, ML, and visualizations.
I have learned that there are many use cases that can be solved with many of the scheduler tools and s3 locations alone.

  ### 2. Good but can get way better and smooth

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The interface is amazing. With respect to queries and all in handling data, it looks really easy. but at the same time, there is no visualization tool which can help us make dashboards for the queries. The tool looks complete since we can schedule queries as well as also work on large queries smoothly. The scheduler and crones are the best things I and my team uses the most.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

There is no info available with respect to the limit available on the system for a particular queries. A lot of time it takes hours to run a query and it fails in the end due to limit on the amount of resources. There is no visualization for the data. Data is visible only in tabular format but no dashboard is available to track data from queries.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

It is one of the easiest places for analysts people to run queries, and manage it. Despite not having enough knowledge about scheduler and crones and their background working, We are able to run large scale queries in order to make the best possible insights.
One thing that bothers us is after fetching data from Qubole, we have to upload it to some dashboard management tools.
Out of 10, would grade it 9 with respect to ease of use.
Can improve on dashboard fact I believe

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Analyzing large scale data and making meaningful insights out of it. We run, schedule and manage queries over it and use it to run about 100s of queries per day

  ### 3. A good tool to use Presto and Spark with a lot of optimization and support.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

A good tool to use Presto and Spark with a lot of optimization and support.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Few shortcomings are there, which can make Qubole a complete product. Requested for a lot of feature request, one of them is to restart the cluster.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

First is customization on the native source code and the billing optimization.

  ### 4. Strong product with good, but not quite great shortcuts and time-saving features

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I really like the ease of use of the platform. Several SQL languages are available within the platform, but I typically find the Presto SQL is sufficient to meet most of my needs and is easy to use for anyone with any prior SQL knowledge.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

There are some shortcuts that other database management software companies offer that are not available in Qubole. For instance, you cannot set a default schema, so the schema must be explicitly called for every table in a query. Additionally, when using the 'Explore' tab to manually review data in a table, you cannot set-limits for the number of rows you'd like to see. Simple dimensional tables that have over ~50 rows won't display entirely due to the software's default setting of returning only 50 rows or so.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Qubole to manage data from various external sources in a data lake. My role then frequently queries the data lake to develop standard reporting and analytics for internal teams.

  ### 5. Decent but a lot of hassle to work with

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

It's much more complete when compared to other products but at the same time also managing and handling queries or jobs are at times failed because of bugs from qubole's end which are managed very late or are time consuming

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Need to talk to the executive a lot of times while handling issues. Many times the answer is this will be fixed in next release but that is way far in future

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

A lot of times the customer would need to have a feature or things being fixed as soon as possible. It can't wait for the next release to come up, mostly when its in the production environment. It'll be great in terms of handling if the requests are made quickly without hassle

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hadoop cluster runs over qubole'. Easy to manage resources, just need to add or subtract the count. There is no option to remove a specific nodes but still it's very easy to manage and complete as it contains scheduler, Crons etc.

  ### 6. Great for Presto Queries backed by S3

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric X. | senior data scientist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I love the increased speed of presto versus hive and the flexible UI for adhoc queries and commands.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

It is a managed cloud service and there is less visibility (or capability) to ssh into the server to make custom configurations.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to extend our capability to use Looker as an internal and external BI tool for self-service analytics to larger amounts of data that are less performant with mySQL.

  ### 7. Good Platform with lot of potential

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The notebooks are easy to use, and documentation about them was thorough.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Customer support response times if the ticket is not marked as critical/urgent.
Notebooks would also sometimes be stuck on "pending" or "running" with no explanation.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to train machine learning models and make database queries.

  ### 9. Qubole serves my needs

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I think sometimes the UI is slow and laggy

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to query a multitude of tables to ensure our production services are working correctly. Qubole gives us the platform to do so

  ### 10. Clunky UX

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like saved queries & history feature. I very often need to reference results elsewhere

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

-sorting output only sorts on first 100 rows, not on all of the data.
-downloading data is buried in a dropdown
-its not terribly clear when you are editing an existing query vs creating a new one.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

analyzing volume, quality of data on my website. i have increased the quality and quantity as a result.

  ### 11. Qubole Review

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Analysing email performance. These tables are very large and running these queries in the cloud makes them a lot quicker especially using presto

  ### 13. Strong Platform capabilities, needs more polish

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2019

Capable of delivering stable platform to massive warehousing needs; the ability to customized workloads and resources to different analytical tasks has made for a flexible development environment

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Not new-user friendly, and lacking documentation around python sdk usage. While the Analyze interface has improved, I find myself still wanting a stand-alone tool not bound to a browser; a lack of query tabs is a big miss here.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

not sure
