## Qubole Reviews
  ### 1. Terrible for query iterations, good for historical record

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

You can find past queries and results pretty easily if they are within a recent timeframe, this is good for having a record of your work and being able to see what you ran if you are not good about keeping your own documentation of your projects. It is also nice that qubole when paired with a datalake allows for the use of partitions, so you may store lots of historical data and be able to query a smaller timeframe without it taking forever. This feature is not available in the other engine that I use so I tend to chose qubole when looking at events or other large data sources within my work.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

You cannot exit a query without running or your changes will be deleted, this means you need to run a new query and clog up your history for every single iteration you want to make which makes it difficult to discovery within your query history. Search is terrible, results will not show up for queries run a long time ago so you won't know the results you received on the original run, which may be different if you run it now.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working as a data analyst, it functions as a necessity for analysis, I appreciate the use of partitions which are possible with qubole and will only use this engine when in need of partitions and I use qubole to query large tables with event data or other large data which I would not have access to elsewhere because of impossibly long run time without the use of a partition.

  ### 2. Review of Qubole

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

- I LOVE and now depend on the history section of qubole. I like that I don't have to think about potentially losing my old work. I also enjoy the share-ability of qubole. The sharing of links was definitely not intuitive in the beginning but now I really enjoy it. I like the the potential of notebooks.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Initial impression of qubole was honestly not that great because of the UI being not intuitive. The scheduling UI is still awful, I have to keep filtering to go back to my failed schedules since it always only shows the active ones. Notebook graphing capabilities is very lacking in features right now as well. The auto populate in the editor is always kind of laggy. The search functionality in analyze only searches in the current schema you are in which sucks because if I knew which schema it was it I wouldn't need to search. I wish I can actually graph directly from my queries similar to how mode does it. Right now I realize my work flow is always I query and download results and have to pivot things in google spreadsheets.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to easily query using multiple querying engines. I love the history section. I love how can I share everything in qubole easily.

  ### 3. Qubole has been great so far!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

As a salesperson, Qubole is the only way I am able to track my sales at my organization. It is essential to my daily tasks (surprisingly) and I check it multiple times a day. This is surprising for someone who does not work in data! I like how essential it is to my day to day. I honestly don't know where I'd be without it. I like the convenience of it- how you can easily save reports and re-run them every day if needed. It's accessible for sure

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Sometimes, I'll run into errors with generating a report and I won't know why. If you aren't super data-savvy or code-savvy, you'll be super confused and have no idea what you did wrong. Sometimes Qubole doesn't make clear what you did wrong or hat you're missing. I believe there might be some integration time error from my company's end too but not sure since I don't work in data. We also did a migration from API to us on Qubole and that was an extremely lengthy process. Not sure if that has to do with Qubole or it has to do with my organzatiom/

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

- Be familiar with data. I have no idea what I'm doing sometimes.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My organization's inability to track my sales as a sales agent! Qubole makes my life easier. I can get credit for clients that I have worked with, versus having to dig for it.

  ### 4. Definitely not hassle free

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mining & Metals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

It's open source and it works well, when it works.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Having to wait for the cluster to start to edit notebooks is a major hassle.
Most of the time you can't even visualise the notebooks without a cluster being running.
Environments don't seem to work most of the time.
The libraries installed by default are very old and often incompatible.
Zeppelin doesn't have histogram (one of the most important plots ever) as part of its easy-plotting feature (if I'm adding more code to use the bar plots then I might as well use a proper plotting library).
Cluster setup is not very intuitive.
The whole thing just crashes if you display too much data (e.g.: forget to limit the number of rows).
Plotly's tool bar is not rendered properly (buttons are displayed all over the place, instead of their appropriate locations).
Too many autoscaling issues.
Very cryptic error messages and exceptions.
The notebook saving mechanism sometimes loses data (i.e.: characters I just typed disappear).
Strange bugs reading parquet files from S3 (only works on a certain clusters).
Strange bugs changing clusters (error messages - I often have to export the notebook and reupload them just to change clusters!).

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Try it first. See if you can put up with the current issues and solve high-priority problems before committing to it.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Just using machine learning to train predictive models for blast design.

  ### 5. Good Tech, Bad Stability

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yili Y. | Data Scientist/Analytics Consultant II, Outsourcing/Offshoring, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The way you can access, analysis and viz data in a single place. Plus it's faster to run queries in qubole

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Notebook is not stable and it's hard to op in python env in the platform. Running different script at the same time is also not by default somehow.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been doing data reporting and nlp in qubole. with qubole, we don't have to worries about computing power and data storage process.

  ### 6. Works okay but occasional issues

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hong Z. | Data Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

easy to use. there is support service which is very helpful to me

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I often encounter problems when using qubole. Some of the issues were for plotting graphs and installing packages. It would be better for the users if these features are more stable.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Easy to use

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data analytics problems. Qubole is convenient to use and it helps me to manager my cluster. That is the main benefit I see.

  ### 7. Good tool for SQL users

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shruthi N. | Business Associate, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole interface is really good and the best part about it using data from spark, presto etc. Beta version of it reduces time to generate output compared to the normal one. Examples in Qubole helps us to learn more about the code, which is not available in other data platforms.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

It becomes a little slow to display the output while dealing with large data

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

improving the speed might be good. For one of the query, it took 15 minutes to generate the output.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to extract data of the market place and analyse the sample to check the sanity of the data.

  ### 8. Qubole has the best support in big data platforms

Qubole has provided us with best in class support for their big data platform. This enables us to help users at our organization better regarding their queries.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I haven't had any issues with the Qubole Platform yet.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Big data Ingestion, Aggregation

  ### 9. A good tool, could be a lot better

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Ease of having a cluster with different configurations, and ability to bifurcate the clusters with different frameworks.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

UI is bit sluggish. Too many UI updates, and could better focus on back-end issues. Documentation can be made a lot more clearer.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Have a VPC setup, choose the right scale. The support team is excellent. Consult them for a good amount of time at the start.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Biggest benefit is not having to worry about setting up, maintaining and cleaning up any Big Data cluster. Happy to have presented with different frameworks to handle various kind of workloads and ease of scaling.

  ### 10. Very satisfied with Qubole as a Platform and Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manjul S. | Associate Software Developer, Internet, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Ease and simplicity of UI, with multiple options to run to query data.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Would be interesting if it can give right away suggestions for different available options. Could you please let me know if you are going add these options?

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Its good, use different options.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Qubole for querying our AWS and Hive tables.

  ### 12. Qubole is user friendly and always works

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like how user friendly it is and how easy it is to search through different queries that were run. It is also great how easy they made it to collaborate with others within the organization.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

There's nothing I dislike, the platform works great. It would be nice to be able to do additional analyiss right in qubole (pre-built)

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Qubole is great! It will save you significant time. It is user friendly and has a variety of features that help user collaborate.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has made my work quicker. There are no problems

  ### 13. Fast Reliable MapReduce Compute Processing in the Cloud with Qubole

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Notebooks and package usage for data scientists to create complex scalable clusters fully managed by Qubole allows Disney to pull insane amounts of data for analysis

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Integration with AWS is not as seamless as it was first POC. SAML integration is also not set up with Disney MyID due to software compatibility

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Qubole addresses the mapReduce cloud management need with a licensed version. It also provides the feature called notebook which drastically changes the way data scientists does their day to day job. The benefit is auto scaling and management of clusters.

  ### 14. Qubole Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the ease of use of qubole, they do all the settings and parameter programming for you so you can just run a query without thinking about anything!

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The UI could be better, especially the search function. It is quite hard to search for anything that was run further than 30 days ago..

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data Problems! It is the most useful tool to query large data sets and get insights straight from a SQL query. You can also create templates that other people can use (especially when they don't all know SQL)

  ### 15. Qubole Makes Work Worth While

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The interface is easy to navigate and to run a report, it is also fairly easy. The only tricky part is understanding what SQL code to use if you do not have any background on SQL code. The templates that are available makes it easier to run a report on specific queries.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

As I am only working on a specific type of report, I barely have any issues with Qubole.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The report that I work on is mainly on pulling custom variables when we have a pixel down on a client's website.

  ### 16. Getting better

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Hive queries work great. I don't recall ever having an issue. If something goes wrong in Hive, there is usually a clear path to resolution. New features for Zeppelin notebooks are steadily arriving and making Qubole's version of Zeppelin stand out from others.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Zeppelin notebooks can be troublesome. Issues are hard to replicate which makes them more frustrating to use. However, as time goes on, the issues are fewer and I am learning workarounds. A lot of the notebook issues are Zeppelin-specific and do not have to do with Qubole - who are working hard to improve that experience.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

You will be happy with the Hive query capabilities. Make sure you test your specific use cases for notebook use. With careful cluster setup and management and recognizing the inherent limitation in Zeppelin itself, you will be happy.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Machine learning to model and predict various business outcomes. Data cleaning.
Data ETL. Exploratory data analysis. Scheduled jobs to populate dashboards.

  ### 17. Qubole experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The best thing about qubole is the fast processing of big data. Earlier my data used to take 10 minutes to load but with the qubole coming in picture, it has been reduced to 3minutes only which is very beneficial for me.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The only thing I dislike is lack of good UI. It is sometime difficult for me to move around but if we can get a chatbot or something of a stuff to guide, it will be a great help

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

It is best for big data. Go without a doubt

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are loading big data to the server and processing long query with the qubole. The data loading and receiving time is the best in qubole. It help me in getting data in a fraction of time

  ### 18. Good product but could be made more user-friendly

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

That you have access to pretty all data within the database. Being able to save templates as well helps a bunch. It's also straight forward to see which dimensions you can pull per database table.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

It's not the greatest if you have limited coding skills. Currently until my understanding improves I have to rely on my trading desk to help me out. Having a variety of users guides available would help myself and my team a ton.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Conversion data attributed to our campaigns is the main reason I use it.

  ### 19. Great for testing PySpark programs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dorian M. | Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I can test my PySpark programs before in order to avoid errors in production

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The limits for downloading data. Maybe Qubole allows downloading more than 1.00 rows but I don't know the correct way

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

You should consider using Qubole is a great tool and it is very helpful

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Retrieving data from Hive databases

  ### 20. True SaaS experience in Big Data Analytics

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander E. | Lead BI Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

SaaS nature of the product, not a IaaS like EMR. Permanent history of all command, scripts, queries. Ability to start/down cluster on demand without calling additional API, just by submitting the actual query. Ability to get log back to client through REST API.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Some UI sections look redundant from functionality point, like Explorer overlaps with Analysis in many aspects. I think it would be better to unify them. Some weird glitches are annoying, for example when the Spark logs are disappeared.
The big disadvantage is proprietary extensions of open source products made by Qubole.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Evaluate a product for real use case

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clickstream event processing, search events processing. Funnel reports, corporate analytics, etc

  ### 21. Surprisingly easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aldo O. | Big Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I especially like how easy it is to trigger commands, not only from the Qubole console but also using the REST API to trigger actions from our custom scripts. Also, being able to switch between technologies such as Hive, Presto and Spark with a simple dropdown is great. Finally, the capability of switching between environments to sandbox changes

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Notebooks are sometimes unstable and we get weird exceptions that are solved by waiting for a little while and retrying. Also, the displayed tables are not automatically refreshed.

Qubole lacks some good videos to explain how to configure the interpreters and add custom artifacts; I had a hard time finding that out on external forums

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

More documentation on the REST APIs to facilitate the usage

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Running adhoc queries on our datalakes and increase/decrease the size of our cluster on demand. We also connect our scheduler to this platform to submit jobs on a regular basis. Whenever we want to take a look at something in particular, we review the logs and find the job id to dig into the logs. The most important benefit we've experienced is the cost reduction of using our cloud provider since Qubole expands and shrinks the clusters accordingly and it is extremely easy to use.

  ### 22. Very Useful for Account Executives

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The ability to pull queries regarding current/new customers. This is very helpful for Account Executives who handle a wide range of clientele and need to keep tabs on buying behavior.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I find that within our organization, Qubole often experiences outages. Sometimes we're unable to run queries for up to a day at a time.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving the problem of not knowing which customers sign up online instead of with a direct rep. This helps us assign appropriate commission to our reps which is very helpful.

  ### 23. Its just so simple

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aayush K. | FMT, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

saved queries can be run and there is an active learning session on the platform.
We are promoting it amongst our ecosystem

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Its a bit slow when query is more than 500 lines.
Yeah thats a problem you know

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Keep Going

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data Science.
Data analysis

  ### 24. Great for Big data workload processing

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Easy and user friendly UI, Self explanatory workflows to configure new jobs, policy etc. It will be beneficial for the user to know some idea about the Cloud providers in terms of workloads, system configurations etc.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Not sure if Qubole now supports other cloud providers. It will be nice to have more control on the user/team permissions on what level of access can be provided and projects can be shared.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Know about data processing requirements and data privacy requirements for the customer. Qubole takes care of it and it is fast and easy.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Big data processing for data analytics and downstream consumption.. Running data processing in the Cloud and able to choose the system configurations helps running workloads in an efficient manner.

  ### 25. Great experience working with Qubole

BI

  ### 26. excellent product to analysis the Financial data.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food & Beverages | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I fully support these characteristics, but I can also add interest and motivation. If the developer is not interested in what he does, the result will be appropriate. I’m lucky that I found blockchain geeks and they fully satisfy all my needs by this Qubole tool.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

as of now not finding much difficulty and its quite user friendly even for non software background people

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

its best tool for F& A who work on more technical financial

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With help of qubole we can merge any data table along with can analysis financial data for projection and forecasting

  ### 27. Excellent managed service for Spark, Hive and Presto

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Very good customer support. The support team has worked very closely with us whenever we have had any issue. Their service is great for managed Hive, Spark and Presto.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Their UI does have some issues which tends to display cached configs instead of the current configs. Additionally their access control over their clusters can be better.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a managed service for Query engines has been very useful. It's a lot lesser maintenance when compared to running your own EMR for instance.

  ### 28. Great service, product and support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

If you want to setup a robust big data engineering and analytics stack Qubole is the most eligible solution out there.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

There isn't anything to dislike with Qubole at this point. We have been one of the their early customers and over the years we have fed our requirements to them as we went along adopting the service. They have responded really well in accommodating our asks into the product

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Qubole helped a lot in data democratization across our org.

  ### 29. Scaling Machine Learning Platform

- Excellent customer support and the relative ease in getting started.
- Continued Qubole rep support in spite of internal organizational reorgs.
-

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

- Excellent customer support, the ability to raise issues and receive support is phenomenal
- Good breakdown of costs
- Stable as a company
- Not a big sales push, the product speaks for itself

  ### 30. Good but somewhat unreliable

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The tool allows for the analysis of large amounts of data. If you know SQL you can work with Qubole. Scala would be a plus.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

My clusters sometimes seem unreliable. There are scripts set to run on startup that just don't get kicked off 1/5 times causing me to have to restart the cluster

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to track attributes in a data base over time for analysis. We write back the results to be shown in dashboards

  ### 31. One stop solution to all the big data analytics problems.

The way tables and contents are organized and also the easy way of running queries, seeing errors and getting results.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Large results are unable to export using the tool. I know that we can use a different url to export it, but we need to get API-key and query id and access a different tool to do that. It would be better to run it seamlessly.

  ### 48. Valeriy Borysyuk's Qubole review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Valeriy B. | Software developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole provides easily accessible history of all queries with results, I can share Query ID with query itself and it's results with someone else in my team or across the company. This is the killing feature really. Also clusters are started, scaled and shut down on demand. Also excellent Qubole support. They help to resolve all problems, simple and complex ones. Qubole also developed a lot of features, like Hive-JDBC-Storage-Handler for accessing other JDBC data sources from Hive, and many other features.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Impossible to run Hive from the shell script. Impossible to execute simple light-weight shell without Map-Reduce started. When using GUI, need to re-login every few minutes, this is annoying feature. I'd prefer my sessions not to expire during my working day. Cost views are heavy and it seems query costs even when it stuck waiting for resources and not running at all.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

You can access lot of tools for data processing such as Presto, Hive, RDBMS, etc. using the same API and GUI. Also Qubole supports AirFlow clusters.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Running Data Warehouse using different tools using the same GUI and API. Easy development because of reach unified API.

  ### 49. A solid managed platform for Spark

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt E. | Software engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole simplifies the operational side of running Spark clusters and jobs, both scheduled and ad-hoc. It allows researchers and data engineers to focus on business logic instead of platform maintenance and tuning.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Once you have a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail. Sometimes the overhead of running a Spark job dominates the actual data processing work to be done. See the blog post "Don't use Hadoop when your data isn't that big" and think about whether you might achieve faster turnaround without reaching for Spark. Initial exploratory work, especially, can go faster if you just run everything from a fast laptop without any distributed processing.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

It's a solid choice if you want some of the most popular Big Data tools and don't want to spend time maintaining them yourself.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're performing content and user classification, content NLP, and user activity analytics with Qubole. We've been able to standardize around Spark and Qubole for batch jobs so that there's a common reference framework used by everyone on the team. We also don't need to devote time to maintaining the cluster and can focus on business logic.

  ### 50. Fantastic
