The most helpful aspect of Proofpoint ITM is that it monitors user activity for any suspicious or unusual user behavior. This could be monitoring the users web activity for any sensitive documents being uploaded to external sites.

The ability to pivot and really gain an understanding of the context behind user actions. I.e it's a great way to verify if actions did take place, coming from a Threat Intel / Insider response world, it's great at helping us understand if the actions align with TTPs we are tracking to determine with confidence if we are at threat.

**What do you dislike about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

Data retention, within the actual platform we only gain 2 weeks worth of insight - which is not always helpful in historical investigations.

**What problems is Proofpoint Insider Threat Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Verifying with confidence actions taking place to help coorberate Threat Intelligence.

**What do you like best about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

PP ITM is incredibly powerful and has a huge variety of features that should be able to apply to any organization's needs. It has a great auto-update feature that allows endpoints to easily receive the latest updates seamlessly and without user interaction. The implementation was thorough and with a consultant that was very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

It is a little difficult to integrate with other services (such as a SIEM). We experienced two incidents that required a substantial amount of assistance from customer support, as the issues were not related to any actions taken by us and could not be resolved on our end. It took a large amount of time and caused a bit of "reputational" damage to our department as the perceived risk of the product drastically increased due to a business disruption from the above mentioned incidents with the product.

PP ITM tracks user activity (both generally and through keyword alerts) in order to prevent sensitive data from being exfiltrated. We have used this to prevent DLP on more than one occasion.

Like most Proofpoint products, I would like to see a single pane of glass, if possible.

**What do you like best about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

I love that it provides a screenshot feature in which it visually shows the user taking the action that we are monitoring. If a user says that wasnt them performing the action, this visual evidence might help show the user what action they performed when it was discovered. This visual evidence also gives analysts a better idea on what the user was actually doing to prevent false positives or falsely accusing a user of doing malicious things when they really were not.

**What do you dislike about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

The main thing that I dont like about ITM is that there is no easy way to deploy the agents. Even though we can use third-party tools to deploy it easily it would be better if we could deploy directly from the dashboard.

It is helping our company spot disgruntled or unaware employees performing actions against the organization's acceptable use policy. It allows us to monitor such actions to better defend against them. With the evidence that this provides we can use it to educate or punish users who are performing inappropriate tasks at work.

The most helpful or beneficial about ITM is the capabilities endless alert creations. The solution can be configured (or is in my case) to alert me perting to the events I chose to be critical which frees up alot of time digging through dashboards daily to see if anything of intrest has happened.

**What do you dislike about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

This is a tough question, everything is helpful, but if I had to select something... it would be the limitation of customizations when it comes to webhooks and specifically Teams. There isn't a lot of documentation out there and a custom webhook will need to be generated.

ITM helps to solve the question WHO and HOW? A lot of times we already know what the WHAT is, so getting the WHO and HOW can reduce the time to take action and protect the organization.

The rules are easy to learn to configure, and set up. Each alert coupled with the screen shot tool, provides tons of context for the event that triggered the alert.

The console for the tool is painful to use at scale, but to take the data from the console to a tool that makes it easier to interact with is a whole different product.

The user interface, the intuitive design, extensive capability, and single paint of glass for all sources connected to the platform.

Occasional buggy or limited features. The row-based structure of activities and alert entries makes it hard or impossible to do complex queries based on previous activities or alerts. The lack of threshold alerts and SIEM integration is also a pain point.

Having screenshots taken automatically is very useful. Its a good compromise between full recording and the need for employee privacy during investigations. It fits well with our culture

Some MacOS specific documentation is out of date. Led to some delays.

Being able to have on demand monitoring of devices who have tripped security alerts in our SOC. We can let ITM run without having to take hours away from our forensics team members or dedicated threat hunters.

Very straightforward in terms of daily use. Easy to view session information and search commands. Alerting functionality provides useful information and covers areas which are gaps in other security tools.

Console upgrades are complicated. Often need to request professional services to assist and schedule a time to upgrade. UI could be updated and be more modern.

For various regulations we are required to record user sessions and be able to index information about sessions like commands, IP, etc. Also, screen recording functionality covers any gaps in session records.

There's a myth in cybersecurity that security compromise happens only from outsiders. That's false, and that is proven here in Proofpoint ITM. As a Security professional working in incident response, this product gave me an approach to understanding and reviewing insider threats and to deeply investigating insider malicious violations related to the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) Triad. Helps GRC to clear out the framework assessments analysing internal risks and fixing them up to clear out various compliance audits.

**What do you dislike about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

I would look at Proofpoint as a very scalable and flexible product compared to competitors like Symantec and HP Autonomy. There are no dislikes about me using this product. A very well handy product to identify internal enterprise risks. No Cons.

I especially like Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies that have been implemented and correlate data exfiltration events, Abuse activity, and malicious insider risky behavior over a powerful dashboard to analyze things quickly and precisely!

Proofpoint offers such a wide array of great product lines that I start to wonder that we may be starting to put "all of our eggs in one basket". Their products function wonderfully.

The Proofpoint Insider Threat Management product lacks some integrations with other products in the space. The cloud version of the product hasn't caught up with the on-prem version yet, so there are capability differences.

The Proofpoint Insider Threat Management product solved our need to monitor user activity for insider risk. It allowed us to detect and prevent a user from purposefully or accidentally exfiltrating sensitive data.

The ITM on premises version does not include all of the same capabilities as the cloud offering to include all of the data loss prevention capabilities crucial to a good insider threat management tool.

The intent of Proofpoint Insider Threat Management key focused area is around people centric and we were able to understand what the employee/contractor did rather what systems are doing behind. We were able to analyze access management in better way and accelerate security incidents in faster timelines with that it overall benefitting in optimising security resources. Would recommend ProofPoint solutions to customers who are loosing for better threat based solutions in the market.

Thought most of the needs are fulfilled but still would love to get more out of the tools to understand prioritisation of incidents in better way in terms cost analysis, residual risk by incorporating risk elements from concerned tools or departments. However this is so far doing good.

Like I said in first question, the key problem it's solving is security resource and faster incident management process. Would love to continue to see how the thos product evovles.

In order to maximize using ITM, you will need a dedicated team reviewing the alerts and constantly curating the content to make sure nothing is missed.

ITM can proactively block activities like uploads to cloud storage and can take screenshots. Completely cloud based without needing to deploy a separate application agent.

Software is accessed entirely from a WebUI, which is easy to navigate and gives lots of information on the dashboards by default. You can quickly generate reports from any dashboard or query and configure automated reports for searches you run often. Email alerts are easy to configure and give a great depth of detail in the body of the email, leading to making better decisions quicker without having the need to load into the webUI first.

**What do you dislike about Proofpoint Insider Threat Management?**

The defaults are a little on the "noisy" side and take a bit of work to tune them to the environment, leading to a high number of "false positives" while the tool learns the environment and you tune it.

**What problems is Proofpoint Insider Threat Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reports, alerts and tracking for the following:
- Accounts are accessed or are used to access files from suspicious locations.
- Multiple failed logins or failed logins from suspicious locations.
- Specify safe countries and have the ability to report back when access is attempted or granted in others.
- Mass changes made to files/rules made for O365 related items are reported on
