I can make them as broad or granular as I would like. For example, sometimes I just need to know if a device is up or not. Other times, it is helpful to know if a switch with redundant links to the core has lost one of those links. I've been able to add new devices that were not baked into the system by using their mib walker and finding the settings for my devices. It's saved me a number of times. **What do you dislike about Progress WhatsUp Gold?** The system still has a client application which is mostly useless in addition to the web interface. I've not figured out how to setup default alerts anytime I add a device, so I've been in a situation where I realized I did not get an alert that something was down and it was because I did not add an alert to the device. **What problems is Progress WhatsUp Gold solving and how is that benefiting you?** Were are able to monitor all kinds of things on side in one application from servers, to printers, to room temperature monitors. I was first introduced to the product in 2003. My company at the time was using Solarwinds which I found to be not very user friendly. So I did some research and found What'sUP Gold. Out of the box it was easy to implement and provided much more clarity and features. It provides me with a proactive approach for when any monitored device hits a predetermined threshold. However, it is not always accurate. I frequently have to fix the discovered network. WUP would be much better if this feature were improved. **What problems is Progress WhatsUp Gold solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am running a Cisco firewall and for whatever reason Cisco does not make it easy to view total ingress and egress traffic. The searching with the log veiwer is nice to get detailed inforamtion for your devices. **What do you dislike about Progress WhatsUp Gold?** The log manager plugin could have an option to add devices that are discovered on your network and just link it to the device you want to have logging enabled on. **What problems is Progress WhatsUp Gold solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm able to view high traffic zones in my network and see the loads that my interfaces are running to be able to make adjustments to my network to give better network connectivity. ### 41.
