What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?

Sitefinity is easy to use, is easy to customize and allows users to sync published content automatically or selectively to a live website (SiteSync). Sitefinty is a great CMS if you have a small to midsize website. Our website has grown to over 6000 pages, whihc includes 7 languages and it is very stabile. We are currently running in 14.4 which is the most stabile release and has a lot of new features. Depending on your needs, you don't have to be a full web developer to manage Sitefinty, but if helps, if you want to brach out and do more fancy stuf on your website. We are doing daily update on our site and and SiteSync comined with workflows is a life saver. We have product managers update their own content on our product pages, our PR and communication team create their onwn content and send it throught he appproval process, and so does the event team wich manages over 200 events on our website, including e-commerce, without every using our web team to get involved. Just like with everything a well organized system is key and Sitefinty brovided the tools to get or be organized. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?

Upgrades to new releasesare easy enough as long as you have a proper source code repository installed that allow you to push updates throught the different servers for validation and verification. Workflows are still not easy enough to define and still lacking some functionality. The Integration with Insight, formerly called DEC has be come much better and more granulate but the cost for data storage is way to high, still. We are currently using Webhooks to send Insight data to our Marketing automation software Act-On, wihich seem to be working quite well. We are still in the early stages of implementation.

Online Marketing package still need more development.

E-commerce was discontinued, one of the reasons we decided on this platform, we decided to go with the semi-fully integrated UCommerce e-commerce software but ran into a number of issues and additional cost since there is no off the shelf sync option to sync content from a staging site to a procutions environment.

Adding additional languages and content is not easy and there should be a simple way to copy and entire page from the original language to any other language. We started using Lionbridge and the connector developed by Sitefinity to pull and pull translation content. The verdict is still out, but we are hopefull.

User profile info is limited. Customer support has improved, but to get more and you can now upgrade to better and faster support by paying more money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?

It's based around Microsoft Technologies so if you are use to these, it will feel familar. You work in MVC or .net Core Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?

Sadly the company has taken the decision to remove it's lower tier subscriptions so it's not possible for a small business or individual to choose Sitefinity as their CRM; it's strictly for Enterprise Companies (i.e. those with very deep pockets).

This is a shame becuase it has killed off the community and by doing so there is no Marketplace to download ready made components. So you end up re-inventing the wheel creating components or widgets via code over and over again like Groundhog day. Such components are available already in the Wordpress store ready to use, so you can rapidly build a website without writing endless code that no doubt every other Sitefinity user has written already.

You only need to take a look at the Sitefinity marketplace (online) and compare to Wordpress to see there are very few integrations for Sitefinity and those that exist are dated and never get updated, because they only have their paid employees, rather than a worldwide community of contributers.

Hopefully Sitefinty can reverse this decision and have community and small business and individual licenses so that they can rebuild their lost community. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Product Team of Progress Sitefinity

Hi David,

Sorry to hear your misgivings about a solution, which you sound like you used to enjoy.

Indeed, the sunsetting of Sitefinity Standard and Small Business Edition was announced in mid-2022 and they were officially discontinued as of June 30, 2023. Progress offered alternatives to the discontinued options for both on-prem license holders and Sitefinity Cloud customers. Both exceed the core CMS functionality of the retired packages and include multiple optional add-ons on top, allowing adopters to comfortably access only the features they need.

Comparisons with open-source solutions will rarely be objective strictly on the number of community-contributed widgets and other ready-made components. Without getting into the quantity-vs-quality debate, at Sitefinity we choose to enable developers through native support of diverse presentation technologies in a decoupled API-driven architecture that can work with a wide range of frontend frameworks across .NET and JS.

The stand-alone ASP.NET Core renderer offers complete feature parity with MVC and gets an immense productivity boost from one of the best Blazor UI component libraries, developed in-house. With native support for Angular and Next.js/React, we believe we’re in fact expanding the Sitefinity developer community by bringing different technologies on board and catering to a broader set of use cases.

Several product releases since the sunset of the “lower tier” subscriptions have brought significant productivity and practitioner experience enhancements too. Overall, we have been investing in technologies rather than utensils—hoping the said technologies are equally accessible regardless of size, scope and budget.

Sincerely,

The Sitefinity Product Team

Ana I.

What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?

It is very easy to use and program, basically you do not need too much knowledge in programming to start it up, it is quite compatible with external systems to centralize the processes that need to be carried out, it has a wide range of developers which makes it easy to find information and documentation about the tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?

The tool does not have a sufficiently complete visual editor which at times hinders the design of web pages limiting the creative ideas of developers, some integrated applications take a long time to load which can be frustrating if we want to design a sufficiently fluid and ergonomic website.
