**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

MarkLogic is the type of product that you need to invest and immerse yourself in to get the most out of it .Compatibility with some of our older operating systems is also out of the question. Apart from that the other things that I dislike is its cost of license is but expensive.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MarkLogics best feature is its search function. The search function is versatile and can find what you are looking for even for the most complex searches. We can produce search results with amazing speed despite the extreme scale of our databases. If there are any hiccups it usually fixes itself within seconds. Their customer support is outstanding.

  ### 2. A No SQL Database platform with great query capability and amazing user Interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anirban D. | Technical Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

Most usefull thig in marklogic is the multi format data ingetion(XML,JSOn etc), it is having a query runner which supports multiple query language which was very usefull, also unlike other nosql provider it suuports ACID property which can be a USP in this segment,

I personaly find setting up security parameters were very user friendly , as We were working with data form different type of customer.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

One problem i personaly feel, even though the user interface is amazing still sometime it confuses me as it is having a huge feature,
Also as the company offers robust solution so they definetly need to increase their community,

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As we were getting raw data form different sources so our data was coming in various format, sometime XML sometime JSON , we need a solution where we dont need to worry about data imports, supporting multiple data ingetion format marklogic solves this issue,
Also we maintain transaction in some cases so we needed the ACID property which is very uncommon in other document databases, Marklogic solves this issue very effciently by supporting ACID property

  ### 3. A new NoSQL DB very competitive

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gerry X. | Sr. Database Engineer (DBA), Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

The advanced search capabilities make it most competitive, it could be doc. JSON, XML even Binary Data. That's amazing. Beyond on that, it has Multi-Model Approaching; ACID compliance; and government-grade security, plus Metadata management. A lot of wonderful features.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

The cost for usint it overally expensive. Licensing, maintenance all not very friendly to small companies. Also, Learning to master it is kind of complex. To make it fully functional like a rocket, depends on how much you know it.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are currently using 'traditional' DB like Oracle/DB2/SQL-Server ...... in transition to cloud and other non-SQL database, we find MarkLogic is a spotlight.
By test use it, we can resolve those Voice; Picture and other big data (non-traditional) search and management. With later possible AI add in, this may be a direction to go.

**Reviewed by:** Dayana C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

MarkLogic moves swiftly. It moves far more quickly than the other XML-based data set engines we looked at, and it certainly moves faster than XML layers tacked upon social data set engines. The motor can flawlessly improve synchronous reads and composes thanks to the lockless compose system's exceptional design. With minimal impact on strength and accessibility, MarkLogic's speed enabled us to carry out essential upgrades on information base design and content as a component of our ongoing organizational strategy.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

There is no design set up for courses of action. To send it off the cuff, we expected to keep up with our own system utilizing Puppet and different devices. Despite the fact that it's simply intended to be sent once, it doesn't function admirably with DevOps' objective of accomplishing a steadily evolving climate.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We involved it as a reinforcement store for our clinical records (patient records). For the limit, recuperation, and revive of records, we utilized a REST framework. The remainder of the framework involved MarkLogic's patient organizing and search usefulness as a limited scale organizations technique to monitor improvements across various crisis facilities. Through our connection focuses, our organization overall included it as a point of convergence.

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

The best thing about MarkLogic is the platform. It is very easy to use, intuitive, and has many insights and analyses that help you make more conscious decisions about your business and/or projects.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

The only thing that I don't like about MarkLogic is the fact that the integrations sometimes do not work properly, as some information has been lost in the process.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MarkLogic is solving the problem of data use and analysis in a fast way. You do have to know about programming if you want to use this platform, as it can be relatively complex for someone that doesn't understand how a computer thinks. It is benefitting the business I work in by making us draw conclusions faster than before.

  ### 44. Powerful NoSQL Database

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sushant D. | System Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

Marklogic is a no SQL database which is platform independent, so it can be used on any kind of OS which meets it's system requirements. Thus it can ingest from any kind of source.
It can be used for various purposes like app data management, data storage and view data in a graphical manner. Sharding of data can be done and replication of data is also done in marklogic. It follows the ACID property of data base management system. Marklogic is used mainly for storing of XML received, and is considered as one of the best NoSQL tools available in the market

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

In Mark logic, we don't have the provision of multiple user having access at the same time. In some conditional types only this can be incorporated. The programming language used is totally different (brat), which gets a bit complex for experienced people in learning new language.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

I would highly recommend Marklogic to others, as it is the only NoSQL tool which provides so much ease in managing data and ingesting from any data source.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Mark Logic as the back end data base to store the Metadata, of customers. The content is stored in Nuxeo and as we are aware that mark logic can ingest data from most of the data sources so it provides an ease in moving from traditional storage system to marklogic.

  ### 45. NoSql Database for XML

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dhharvi S. | System Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

One of the best things about Marklogic is that it is a platform independent tool, which makes it compatible will all kind of systems, and provides an option to store their data. This being a NoSQL tool, still follows all the ACID properties making it more powerful than any other tool under the same category.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

To operate this tool, user needs to start learning a new language, as it works on a totally new language, which may create problem for experienced people to learn new things, going off the track. Also one thing I've observed is that they have a conditional multiple user access, which shows that multiple user access is not so easy.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

If people are comfortable in learning new language, they must switch to Marklogic, for storing the data in a tabular manner, using NoSQL, database.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are storing customers data that is the conten, and the metadata to which this content belongs, in a separate manner. So for metadata storage, we are going for Marklogic, as we are receiving XML format metadata.

  ### 46. Marklogic- Modern era NoSql DB with legacy features

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** prabhudayal a. | Senior Software Engineering, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

1.Search capability.- search queries can be fired on XML and JSON, even on semi srtuctured data. Xquey personally i like the best
2.ACID property-Currently its the only NoSql database which provides this.Another leading NoSql DB HBASE dont have the feature.
3.Both horizontal and vertical scaling is supported.- Which fulfills both modern and traditional DB features.
4.Traditional features.- Backup and recovery, level of security
5.Automatic indexing of elements.- This gives a huge boost to search performance.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

1.Licencing cost.
2.Space required to store data seems excessive to me.
3.The beginners will have a stiff learning curve and might have to work hard to have a hold on the tool.
Nothing much for dislike.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

Ya , i ll recommend this product. But you have to decide where cost comes to picture. If your company or client are willing to spend then this will be the best.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have configured marklogic with nuxeo. So metadata of our emails, chat and fax are being stored in marklogic and the data itself in nuxeo.

  ### 47. Great option as a NoSQL enterprise DB

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saugandh K. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2017

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

The variety of access methods Java API like Node.js, Client API, ODBC, RESTful HTTP API ,SPARQL, WebDAV,XDBC ,XQuery and XSLT. The concept of Role-based access control at the document level is also sokmehting which I liked.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

The licencing cost. That would be a dislike. Also I could not find enough connectors for Marklogic. Also the deserializing/serializing data into and out of the internal data model but then that also helps in easy retrieval, hence it cuts out.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

Would recommend if used to store metadata. It is really good. specially the

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are storing the metadata of Chats, fax and mails along with some documents. Also the metadata for videos calls are also stored in the database.

  ### 48. NoSQL is better and it is the future

It is a NOSQL Enterprise DB with government grade security.
It can scale vertically as well as horizontally and many options to access to the marklogic like many servers support are there.

Support to various technologies like javascript, sql xqery

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

The community needs to grow.

There is nothing that you can dislike, it just very handy and Xquery can build a single tier application of its own.
Its just amazing.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

You should use the http app server its easy

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted some archival to store metadata of the pdf, So that we can search through it continuously and efficiently.

  ### 49. A true NO SQL Enterprise solution

The three consoles at different ports I like 8000,8001 and 8002

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

The way to see the data, that I have stored to be precise , the unstructured data.

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

It is the best Enterprise level software and has a built in search feature.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we needed a backend solution for storing the metadata.
We integrated marklogic as a database for Nuxeo.

  ### 50. Architect and Developer for custom systems using MarkLogic

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tony A. | Director of Engineering, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Progress MarkLogic?**

The system is very robust and with version 8 has removed much of the arcane manual tuning that was needed in older versions. If you are storing and manipulating XML documents, it is very simple for the amount of power it gives you. MarkLogic has excellent documentation and support ecosystem. There are usually other people who have encountered similar issues in the past and their development mailing list is active. Their recent integration with REST, JSON and node.js has substantially simplified building integrated systems on top of MarkLogic. With the recent additions of Active Directory and JSON as first-class-object, it is possible to build a system from the ground up very quickly using only MarkLogic and world-class front-end tools like AngularJS or EmberJS. MarkLogic's support for fully ACID transactions is very rare in the NoSQL market and their reliability is significantly better than anything I've encountered in the open-source NoSQL ecosystem.

**What do you dislike about Progress MarkLogic?**

MarkLogic has moved somewhat away from the pure XML world and has not kept up to date with XQuery 3.0, XProc, XQuery Update Facility, etc. They seem to prefer to enhance their proprietary features rather than implement additional standards compliance into their product. I would like to see them improve some of their basic functionality like normalizing their API and refactoring some of the more confusing areas (HTTP FORM handling, native file read/write/delete, etc.).

**Recommendations to others considering Progress MarkLogic:**

MarkLogic is best utilized by a team that is knowledgeable in XML / XQuery technologies. Despite their inroads in JSON and REST, the learning curve for people without significant XML experience is quite steep. However, if you have invested in XML / XPath / XQuery / XSLT knowledge, then you can be up and running in MarkLogic very quickly. MarkLogic is a great alternative to non ACID compliant distributed databases like DynamoDB / Cassandra / MongoDB. The enterprise version is pricey, although for personal projects, education and non-profit uses they do offer substantial discounts and the community edition still supports the important NoSQL and ACID features.

**What problems is Progress MarkLogic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used MarkLogic as a Document Database in a NoSQL environment to support Fortune 500 customers. We have build custom web-content-managment, component-content-management, document archival and publishing. We have also used MarkLogic as a centralized metadata repository to integrate with governmental databases for purposes of normalizing data governance across a large civilian federal agency.
