If I'm not in the office, I'm able to log in remotely and continue my work from anywhere with a stable internet connection. The software also gives users the ability to organize estimates as they see fit. This organization is key to making sure that anyone within our company who views an estimate is able to find what they're looking for with relative ease. The support staff is great, too. Whenever I have a question about using a feature or if I encounter a bug within the software, they are quick to respond and get me the help I need. **What do you dislike about ProEst?** The main complaint I had with ProEst is that it required a fair bit of try-it-and-see learning, as there was no documentation on how to use its features. This has been rectified with the addition of a knowledge base in the ver.16 update. It currently contains a large amount of information, but could use some fine-tuning to address more specific details of the numerous features the software offers. **Recommendations to others considering ProEst:** As you explore the software, try not to get overwhelmed by the number of features it offers. I have been using ProEst for over five years, and even to this day, I continue to learn more about its capabilities. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** ProEst has made our estimating departments more efficient and productive. The amount of cost detail you are able to provide within database items is also helping us realize any shortcomings or problems with our unit pricing, which allows us to price projects more competitively. Their takeoff tool lets you upload drawings directly to the cloud-based platform, begin doing take-offs for the project, and then automatically price them using historical input data. The best part is; you can upload your quantities and line items directly into a report for unique deliverables. **What do you dislike about ProEst?** PRoEst is a cloud based software that requires internet connection to use. This generally isnt a massive problem, however if you are looking for a downloadable software - ProEst may not be the takeoff program for you. Other than that, ProEst updates are frequent and have very minor downtime. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** ProEst allows you to create formula variables and algorithms on the back end. Formula Variables are critical to our budgeting process as we can capture everything in a take-off; if an item is unlisted within the database of ProEst, we can create it ourselves. These variables alone put ProEst above the competition. ### 7. I have enjoyed working with the software. It did require some training to familiarize myself with each function, but afterward, I feel like I can estimate efficiently. **Recommendations to others considering ProEst:** If you are looking for easy-to-use and easy-to-navigate software for construction estimating - this is the one. I struggled with putting together an estimate. When you are approaching completing a full page of takeoff, the software begins to lag drastically and can slow down your productivity. Some of the features, such as the overlay function, sometimes don't work. It would be helpful to add features such as templates for commonly used assemblies; can select any or all takeoff items on a sheet or any given assembly at once, for deletion, reassignment to another assembly, or to be copied/pasted to another area on the page or another sheet. Additionally, when uploading plan sets, the program seems to jumble up the plan sheet order, and there is not a quick way to correctly reorganize them. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** The overlay functions were not working when I first started using the program but have since been fixed. Eliminating the need for two different types of software to complete the takeoff and generate an estimate. ### 9. I am a medium-size contractor which performs somewhere around 50 million now. Seven years ago, we did only approximately 5 million a year. With this software, we have come a long way in the past seven years. Two of us do all of the estimating of our projects. Our estimating time must be efficient and productive. The thing that I'd have to say that I like best is that my estimates are consistent, accurate, and professional. When I submit an estimate to a prospective client, I know they will recognize it as professional. They'll see our company as a viable business capable of building their project. I love the ability to build assemblies; they are huge time savers. The on-screen take-off module has been very efficient for me. The people at ProEst have been so informative, and they jump on board with whatever question I have; I even had the president Joe Gerardi on Saturday late afternoon explain a question that I had. They are constantly working on improving their products. **What do you dislike about ProEst?** Not one thing that I can think of right now. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** I love the feature to print it out in an excel format and make changes to it. You have to make the database your own. I've put many hours into editing the database to meet my needs. The other is you can make mistakes; you need to be vigilant and watch your entries. **Recommendations to others considering ProEst:** I looked at quite a few estimating programs when I decided to move away from estimating in Excel. ProEst was the only program that had a take-off module and a robust estimating platform. ProEst also integrates with QuickBooks and other programs. We are finding new ways to use the software every day. Once the databases are built, it is smooth sailing. We find our estimates to be much more accurate. We have also started using this as our proposal generation software. **What do you dislike about ProEst?** There is no assembly substitution feature. This would be very helpful. The only way to change out an area is to do a new takeoff as an alternate. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Estimate accuracy on all items. A lot of smaller items, such as fasteners or caulking, were alwasy guesses. It has streamlined tracking sales by person, or division, and the hundreds of spreadsheets and reports have exponentially expanded our company's productivity. The database we have created for cost codes and unit prices is pretty standard for most estimating programs, but I do like how easy it was with ProEst. **What do you dislike about ProEst?** The actual estimate and summary page can take a bit to learn. I am not a fan of saving each line item, as if they are not saved, it's hard to notice. That comes down to just becoming more familiar with the program, through. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Data, data, data! It is so vital to a business to have RELIABLE data. As long as our users are utilizing the program correctly, our data is virtually 100% accurate. It never comes down to program problems. The other thing that I find that sets ProEst apart is that you are able to give suggestions and have same day/next day feedback on it. Something that I hadn't seen before in any other software. The recent implementation of a more word like type kind of editor was definitely a plus as it allowed some text to be large and other parts to be small. The best part was that was done through feedback and able to be done in a relatively short turnaround time when dealing with software. **What do you dislike about ProEst?** I don't really find many things to dislike. Especially since there is an option for instant feedback. One of the things that hasn't happened and maybe due to a the software inability is to save past changes or being able to go back to previous versions of scopes. Adding edits, can make a scope look cumbersome. **Recommendations to others considering ProEst:** I think the ability to customize your takeoffs is essential and the ability to do so quickly and save different settings given different materials/products is something that is quite easily set up and done in ProEst. **What problems is ProEst solving and how is that benefiting you?** ProEst is currently used as a construction software that allows you to customize the way you estimate in order to minimize any sort of manual calculations that would take up time many times over. At some point in the last year ProEst also decided to go with a cloudbased service that proved very, very convenient. This is of course given the current state of things and many people working from home. If someone is unable to come into the office, simply logging in from home is a great benefit. The takeoffs tool could be improved, keyboard shortcut for "Undo" for example do not work but they should. line items lock up the cost code and arent able to be edited once there is a takeoff connected, this needs to change. also, it should be MUCH more difficult to delete a drawing. and it should be MUCH easier to upload that single drawing back.
