What do you like best about Product Marketing Alliance?

I really liked the fact it went through all the themes needed when it comes to being a Product Marketer. It gives you an unbiased overview of your responsibilities as a PMM and a series of best practices to enhance your skill set in each of those areas. What do you dislike about Product Marketing Alliance?

Product Marketing, as my peers would know, is a role that's in constant development and whose responsibilities change significantly depending on the company you're working at - such as if it's B2B or B2C, SMB or Enterprise, 1-person PMM team or 10-person PMM team, software, consumer goods or subscription-based, etc. The course gave a good general overview, but I think it could provide 10x more value if the content of the course was tailored and focused depending on the type and size of the company, even with a simple distinction, such as B2B vs. B2C -- which is the one that brings more differences to the PMM role and focus. PMA is helping to define Product Marketing as a role, alongside its responsibilities, focus, skill set, and more. This is much needed since the role does so much that sometimes falls in a gray area, where it gets stretched and blurred. Thanks to PMA, I’ve been able to develop strong go-to-market strategies, lead marketing teams successfully, and drive success for both my employer and my own career. What I appreciate most is the chance to connect with experienced marketers from top companies and benchmark my own approaches.

I like the amount of very diverse subject in the most different levels of depth, which can really help someone that is either starting in the profession and also for seasoned professionals. It’s like Ring of Power for Product Marketing Managers. It presents Positioning, GTM, messaging, and basically all of the items every PMM has on the task list. Also, I'd emphasize PMA Community, as a great support for any emerging questions you might have. Sort of our own Fellowship.

PMA certifications are a great way to upskill and learn from expert instructors. I've attended both in person (Seattle instructor was a PM expert from Uber) and online. While I prefer getting to meet other marketers in person, the virtual format was also engaging and I walked away with ideas on how to improve product marketing at my organization.
