"Comprehensive Tool with Learning Curve"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I really like how PostHog is an all-in-one tool, which helps me by providing one flow from insight to root cause to fix. The same user context across everything means less tool hopping and faster decisions. This integration helps streamline our process significantly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I find the learning curve with PostHog challenging. It can take time to understand the best way to model, and it feels a little overwhelming at first. Especially for newer folks, the product's power can cause them to get lost. We manage it by keeping things simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive Features, Helpful AI, and very easy to get started but Documentation Needs Clarity"
What do you like best about PostHog?

Very easy to understand the list of available features and what each does and to which use case it applies. Just as easy to integrate and start seeing results. And the interface to define reports is also pretty straightforward and where you encounter difficulties you have the PostHog AI that helps you figure things out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I had some troubles with the documentation. I found some confusing information is some places about how to add custom data to the tracking event. I was eventually able to figure things out using PostHog AI, but the first impression I got trying to use the docs by myself was that the format of the event JSON needs to be a bit more clearly documented and a bit more consistent. "GDPR-Compliant Analytics with a Clean UI, But Custom Query Challenges"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I like PostHog for its GDPR compatibility, which is important to me since I dislike those cookie banners. I appreciate the powerful query language and the clean UI. The free tier is enough for me until my projects become more financially successful. The dashboards are fairly simple and easy to use. I also find the SDK simple to use and enjoy using the TypeScript browser and Node.js SDK. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I found it difficult to create a dashboard graph based on a custom query that used the dashboard's time filter. I didn't know how to use the selected data range in the query, or if it is automatically added. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Essential Analytics with Generous Features"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I use PostHog to gain insights into user analytics for my SaaS products, which I find incredibly useful. One of the standout features of PostHog is its session replays tool that allows me to visually observe user interactions within my application, providing clear insights into user behavior. Additionally, I appreciate how easy it is to filter sessions to focus on specific users or pages, which adds significant value to my analysis process. The SQL feature is another highlight, enabling me to extract detailed user data through simple programming, and the integration of AI to assist in writing queries enhances the ease of data analysis. I also find the generous free tier incredibly beneficial as it helps manage costs for early-stage products. The simple interface of PostHog facilitates straightforward navigation, significantly improving the usability experience. The initial setup was a breeze, thanks to the excellent documentation, interactive guides, and the remarkable AI CLI tool that streamlines the installation process. Wrapped up with the ability to overcome issues posed by ad blockers via a proxying feature, the cost-effectiveness and comprehensive feature set led me to switch from other analytics tools like Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

Sometimes the session replays tool is slow and glitchy. Additionally, the filtering is not intuitive, making it difficult to discern which filter name corresponds to which data point. I am also unable to use the heatmaps feature for apps behind authentication, although I am aware that this feature is still in beta. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Quick to Install, Versatile but Heavy Interface"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I love the result presentation interfaces of PostHog; they are really very clean and offer great freedom, allowing the creation of custom dashboards somewhat like Notion. I particularly appreciated the simplicity of installation on my React project, which took less than 5 minutes, and I was able to see results immediately, which is very convenient for sharing with clients, including those who are not tech-savvy. The integration is also quite good, with many useful features for easy interaction. PostHog allows us to build our own charts with total freedom in their layout and in the choice of axes, which facilitates the customization of data presentations. Moreover, the numerous templates offered provide great starting blocks for quickly creating attractive visuals. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

The PostHog interface is considered quite heavy, particularly the dashboard which seems overloaded with information. This can make it difficult to get started and might especially intimidate non-technical customers at first, as the interface can appear quite complex to understand. Fortunately, the use of the recently installed PostHog AI helps navigate the interface, which is an advantage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Simplifies Cookie-Less Analytics, Needs Dashboard Improvement"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I love the cookie-less feature of PostHog because it allows us to collect web analytics without showing a cookie banner, which significantly enhances the user experience on our website. This feature is particularly important to me as it centralizes our data efficiently without compromising on the quality of analytics we gather. Additionally, I appreciate the heat map tool within PostHog. This feature has been instrumental for us, allowing us to visualize user interactions effectively and strategically focus attention where it's needed most. It has even eliminated the need for us to use Hotjar, exemplifying PostHog's capability as a comprehensive analytics tool that simplifies our analytics process while providing in-depth insights. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I would like to see the dashboard somewhat simpler, or at least better organized. The landing page doesn't help us, we have to navigate to dashboards > media dashboard or directly to the web analytics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Incomplete Documentation, Annoying UI and High Cost Dampen Potential"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I appreciate that PostHog meets our basic needs for generating heatmaps. Even though there are not many standout features we need right now, it effectively provides the insights we require about application usage. I value how it enables understanding of which areas of our app are utilized the most, fulfilling its primary purpose efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

The integration setup with PostHog was very rough around the edges, which made the initial setup process not easy. There was confusion about whether I could have multiple environments under a single API key. Apparently there was an announcement that you could, but then that was quietly removed. The heatmaps feature being in beta demonstrated some instability or incomplete elements. The dashboard UI included distracting touches like a desktop imitation complete with a screensaver, which I found annoying. The product appeared to be heavily targeted at sales and marketing, but the developer documentation was neither easy to find nor as comprehensive as I would prefer. The projected billing for the first month seemed quite high for what was being offered, causing concern. I figured out in time to turn off autocapture, a feature apparently not necessary for heatmaps, but I'm not sure it'll still be worth the cost Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"All-in-One Solution with Self-Hosting Advantage"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I appreciate that PostHog is an all-in-one solution which significantly suits our company needs. The fact that PostHog is self-hostable stands out as a huge advantage for us, especially since it allows us to retain user session recordings that we previously lost due to our past integration being blockable. I find the capability of using PostHog alongside other tools like Datadog for logs to be really beneficial, integrating seamlessly into our existing setup. Despite the slightly more technical initial setup due to the self-hosting, the benefits far outweigh this minor inconvenience. Overall, it's perfect for our use case, and I am fully satisfied with its performance, so much so that I would highly recommend it to others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

The initial setup experience with PostHog was slightly more technical due to the self-hosting aspect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Superior Session Recording, Effortless Setup"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I use PostHog primarily for capturing recordings of sessions from the users of our apps and websites, which is invaluable. I love how session recordings allow us to observe precisely how users interact with our applications, showing us the areas where users spend the most time and providing insights into decision-making processes. This feature is incredibly useful for identifying bugs we might otherwise miss. The session recording in PostHog is the best I've seen in any product, providing a clearer picture compared to others I've tried. The reporting feature is also extremely beneficial, allowing us to share usage insights with other team members effectively. It is easy to build reports by integrating pipeline data from an SQL database with interaction events, which brings even more value as we can demonstrate to staff how users engage with our software. Additionally, I appreciate how simple the initial setup of PostHog was, making the transition smooth and enhancing our workflow efficiency. Overall, PostHog's features significantly enhance our understanding of user interactions, and I am confident enough in its performance to recommend it with a solid 10 out of 10. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I sometimes experience issues with session recordings in PostHog, particularly when it comes to handling layouts and dialogs displayed by our Ionic/React applications. The recordings occasionally show these elements multiple times when they only appear once in real life, or sometimes the images do not load properly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Advanced Features, But Steep Learning Curve"
What do you like best about PostHog?

I use PostHog for tracking analytics on my website, which excels at user journey tracking. This capability is instrumental for understanding how users navigate and engage with my website, significantly enhancing my ability to analyze and improve user experiences. Additionally, I appreciate the flexibility PostHog offers through its custom triggers for different customer actions. This allows me to implement specific code-based triggers to gain insights into various user behaviors, offering a level of detail and customization that is particularly beneficial for targeted analytics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostHog?

I find PostHog to be unintuitive and overwhelming for new users, including myself, who need to watch instructional videos to understand its functionalities despite a strong background in technology. The sidebars appear cluttered, adding to the complexity rather than aiding in navigation, and a more streamlined user interface could significantly improve accessibility and usability. Furthermore, the initial setup process is confusing, particularly with WordPress integration, where adding JavaScript code was not straightforward, requiring a plugin to function properly. It seems that coming from simpler analytics tools can make the experience feel overwhelming, and a concise guide or tutorial highlighting key use cases would be extremely beneficial.
