The session replays and custom events are awesome. I love being able to see what my users do and where they get stuck. I use PostHog every day, it's super easy to implement. The integration was so easy. Took me minutes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The documentation is kind of insufficient. I had to dig to really find stuff relevant to NextJS and the Customer Support hub doesn't really have the info. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As a developer, one of the biggest hassles is integrating all the various analytics and user journey tracking tools. There is SO MUCH to do.
But with PostHog, you have everything you need (and don't need) in less than 5 minutes. I was putting off this task because I fully expected it to take days or at least many hours. 5 minutes and I have more analytics than I know what to do with...
- Easy to implement (<5 minutes in my NextJS app)
- Their documentation is virtually perfect
- More features than you will need
- It just works
- It's free??????? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have found absolutely NO downsides so far. Not kidding. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
PostHog stands out with its comprehensive suite of features and tools, which streamlines the administrative workflow by consolidating multiple functionalities into a single platform. The initial implementation process was notably straightforward, making it easy to get started. In terms of practical usage, I find myself accessing PostHog multiple times throughout the week, which speaks to its utility. The robust feature set is particularly valuable, allowing us to handle various analytics tasks without needing to integrate additional third-party tools. I haven't yet had the opportunity to test the customer support services or explore the integration capabilities, so I cannot provide feedback on these aspects. The main challenge with PostHog lies in its initial learning curve. While the platform offers extensive functionality, getting familiar with all its features during the first setup can be somewhat overwhelming. The interface, though comprehensive, requires dedicated time to master, which means the ease of use isn't as intuitive as one might hope for new users. This initial complexity can slow down the onboarding process for teams who need to get up and running quickly. As I haven't yet needed to contact customer support or test any integrations, I cannot comment on these aspects of the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that it shows me stats on my startup's early traffic! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Before there was an easy way to see where a user was looking at the page from. I would go under screen recordings, then there was a button to see information on the user and where they were accessing from. I found a different unique menu that shows me a globe, cities, and regions from where people are accessing, but it's hard to decifer the information and it's less clear. I'm not really a technical person, so I feel like I have to learn a lot more before I can understand the data and that kind of frustrates me. Maybe posthog does have all of the same features, and it's possible it's primarily my fault as someone that doesn't understand it's capabilities, but I just wish it was easier to understand. I like its cookie-less option to have analytics/insights without annoying users with cookie banners.
It's also is easy to use, the implementation is fas (just a classic snippet), even if you don’t have a lot of technical expertise. It's also easy to use; the UX seems intuitive. I also like its free tier, so I can try things out without worrying about receiving unexpected billing.
In particular, I love the session replay feature for gathering user insights. I can check every few days to understand where users got stuck and understand their behaviour—a must-have to improve UX.
Now, I use it every few days to have an overview of the metrics and/or to check the recordings.
I haven't used customer support so far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I do not dislike anything so far, to be honest, just minor things.
I just use some basic features without advanced stuff, like custom events, so it's hard to find problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I personally like its Web Analytics and Product Analytics features, as they allow me to track users on my site and identify any issues they might encounter. Which results in overall better experience for my users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can be a bit overwhelming at first because it offers a lot of features, such as session replay and event flags. You’ll need some time to understand how everything works and what each feature does. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The best thing about PostHog is its pricing—no other competitor comes close. The affordability, combined with its robust feature set, makes it an excellent choice for analytics.
Additionally, the YouTube channel has been incredibly helpful. It provided solutions to all the initial challenges I faced when getting started, making the onboarding process smooth. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The documentation could be clearer in some areas to improve the developer experience.
A feature to delete groups directly from the PostHog dashboard would reduce friction and minimize the need to reach out to support.
Increasing the number of groups would be a valuable enhancement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I see posthog as a single place where we can get all user insights. It is a single replacement for multiple tools such as clarity, mixpanel, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its retention period in some modules goes as low as 1 month in free tier and 3 months in paid. I think that can catered for in the self hosting (which I havent tried up until now), but Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

PostHog has completely changed the way I understand user behavior on my site. The session replay feature is like binge-watching user interactions – it’s as engaging as a Netflix series, but with way more actionable insights. I literally watch every day how users navigate, where they click, and what might be causing them friction. It’s one thing to see metrics on a dashboard, but it’s on a whole other level to watch actual user sessions play out. It’s like having a front-row seat to understand what’s working and what’s not, and it’s made improving the user experience faster and more intuitive. By the way, It's free easy to integrate (in seconds) and opensource - I can just use PostHog for all things analytics and beyond instead of various analytics tools. What I find challenging about PostHog is that, with so many features available, it can feel overwhelming at first to figure out where to begin. It’s not always clear which tools I should use for specific needs, and I’ve had to take some time to understand how each feature aligns with my goals. A bit more guidance or onboarding for new users would make the experience smoother. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ease of implementation into my existing project. The docs were clear and easy to follow. Also, API was easy to use - I was able to integrate the HQL via the API to get data and build analytics into my app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This is likely not a posthog issue but more of my knowledge gap related to conversion tracking. I find it unclear on how to create a conversion goal and track them. I do understand that every app is different and posthog would not be able to determine this for me easily. It would be cool to have a chrome extension that would allow me to walk through a full conversion which would generate the PH conversion that i wish to track. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
