I am loathe to always use google analytics. My desire is to understand my website vistiors or customers not just hand over these statistics straight to an outside party. I know there is no one size fits all, but like most open source project [ at least when I first installed it] you have to know how to prep your machine [Ubuntu in my case] by creating a database with user and password prior to attempting the install.
