They set up my account incorrectly, messed up my state taxes then blamed it on our company when it was obvious that they made the mistake. They promise to cover the cost of their errors, but that is lie. I was stuck with a $6000 tax bill, and had to threat to leave to even get the issue escalated. Once escalated after 2 months of hearing they were "working on it" I left. It was awful working with them to get amendments filed. So awful, we ended up having to file amendments on our own. We were passed from rep to rep, with each rep essentially saying "not my problem". HR, payroll, health bnefits and retirement benefits. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** The worst customer service I've ever experienced. It wasn't just that the hold times were often more than 30 minutes, it was that when I talked to a a human, they'd almost immediately indicate that they weren't the correct person and route me to a different department. I left paychex in 2022 (it's now 2025), and they still haven't fully ended our retirement accounts, which is still costing me time. The service is just as bad as I recall. The company also seemed to have high turnover. Our "account manager" changed four times in ~18 months. I'd strongly discourage any small business from using them. We turned to a local payroll specialist and they helped us find more reasonably priced HR, payroll, health and retirement benefits. However, the cost isn't the biggest difference, it's having a knowledgeable human to help us when we have questions. Look for better options than PayChex, it was a very bad experience. Not only do they empower their phone staff to do whatever is required to solve a customer's issues, they choose people who are consistently helpful, patient, knowledgable and competent. In one word, what is best about Paychex is their staff. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** The only downside I have had with Paychex is that our representatives keep being moved to new positions in the company. Adjustments to pay were straightforward. Reports were customizable. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** Cost was too expensive after first year. Access was immediately cut off for employees once leaving Paychex. Customers should have access for one year in order to obtain all necessary reports. Each department has it owns separate either service manager or a service line, specifically dedicated to your account or that product. If you keep those organized then it is simple to get support given your problem. The pricing is okay given what you are trying to achieve because there are a lot of integrated features you can add in or build out. Most things integrate with each other in some way or another to increase productivity. The reporting and access to your analytics is fantastic with automated reports on a vast different frequencies. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** The pricing discounts expire after a year and have to be renewed so it is easy to forget and your charges double like Xfinity. A lot of modules aren't truly Flex, more plugin ancient modules so they are slow and sometimes only integarte one way. That get's very frustrating. If you have 2 companies tied together with managers overseeing employee's in the opposite company, good luck. There are TONS of issues with that around reporting and performance reviews. If they tell you "send me a screenshot and we need to submit a ticket and get back to you", you may as well figure it out yourself or just take that as a hard NO. There is a fee for essentially anything additional or custom etc. **What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Building out a performance review structure to pair with annual raises and/or disciplinary actions. The HR Business Partner is working with us on redoing our entire handbook, policies and forms to complement that as well as either train or coach out bad hires first 45 days. Huge huge help, shout out of my HRBP, she is an incredible help each week in clarifying what is right or wrong directions to handle specific HR or EE related issues. Integrating date between payroll, HR, benefits, 401k, and every "employee life cycle" step which optimizes productivity and user experience for the employee and management. I highly recommend taking advantage of bundled services. ### 41. In this case I wanted to issue separate bonus checks, which I was not sure how to do but wanted to learn how to do on my own, and the support representative walked me through the entire process, including reviewing the steps to take when I want to issue the next one. **What do you dislike about Paychex?** There have been some rough periods during which certain features of Paychex Flex were getting the bugs worked out, particularly in the Timekeeping module, and at times there are cosmetic changes that are supposed to be enhancements but actually turn out to be inconvenient or impediments. Those are not to often, thankfully. Also, I'm not sure if the retirement benefits module is hosted by someone else, but it does not look or function quite the same as the rest of the application, and I find it somewhat less user-friendly. **What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paychex Flex provides automation of some tasks that make them much easier to deal with. We were early adopters of the time and attendance funtionality, and although it was a rough start, it is a vast improvement over other solutions we had tried.
