## Payara Server Reviews
  ### 1. Robust and stable platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio Jose S. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

It is a robust product that works out of the box. The community version is very stable, so you can develop and test with the confidence that your production environment will be a success without a lot additional efforts.

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

Hardly to say, but from my point of view more detailed documentation for a clear path about integration with the micro/mini services world. Complexity is large with so many specialized solutions to integrate like Kubernetes, Kafka, NOSQL, Monitoring, Cloud solutions, etc.

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to provide a powerful SAAS solution for Retail, including the POS ecosystem. We provide complex web portal functionality along with Internet communications with the POS systems installed on our customers. We have a very low demand for support related to platform errors. Overall performance of our solutions is fine and able to scale.

**Official Response from Payara Fish:**

> Thank you for your comments! Glad to know that you find Payara Server stable and robust. For more information about integration with microservices, you might find our guide, Mastering Microservices with MicroProfile and Payara in the Cloud, useful: https://info.payara.fish/microservices-with-microprofile-and-payara

IDE Integration for development
Great monitoring tools

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

Slow bootstrap
Incompatible IDE integration for latest versions of some IDEs (eg: IntelliJ)
SLF4J logging support
Sometimes domain stop command does not work indefinitely

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since the standard aspects of an EA are managed through Payara, it turns into more productivity
Managed concurrency
Managed connection pools
Managed APIs and specification implementations
Application management and shared API usage

**Official Response from Jadon Ortlepp:**

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

  ### 28. Payara is one the best performing and easy to configure servers out there

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexius Dionysius D. | Technical Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

Small memory footprint
Fully JEE compliant with an exceptional administration console
Very good performance
Easy to Dockerise

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

It should provide out of the box support as an embedded server for spring boot applications
Let's Encrypt certificates should be installed through the admin console
A wizard like procedure for clustering.

**Recommendations to others considering Payara Server:**

It is recommended for any type of jee and/or Spring application. Unless there are proprietary framework restrictions there is no reason not using Payara. The pricing model for enterprise support is very nice and I would definitely recommend it. The case where it is least recommended is when you need a seperate application server per service. At this case there might be better options for this job even though I am not very sure and need to test more.

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is currently being used at three clients to host spring boot applications. There are applications with both enterprise capabilities and simple websites and newsletters. It addresses the need of an easy to use lightweight and yet very easy to configure through a console. These application are hosted in VMs and Payaras small memory footprint without making any discounts in JEE capabilities is ideal for that environment.

**Official Response from Jadon Ortlepp:**

> Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Payara Server. We're thrilled to hear that you appreciate its small memory footprint, JEE compliance, exceptional administration console, and performance. Your feedback on the areas for improvement, such as embedded server support for Spring Boot applications, Let's Encrypt certificate installation, and clustering procedures, is valuable and will be taken into consideration for future enhancements. We appreciate your recommendation of Payara Server for JEE and Spring applications, as well as your recognition of the benefits of the pricing model for enterprise support. It's great to know that Payara Server is effectively meeting your needs for hosting a variety of applications and providing ease of configuration in a lightweight environment with strong JEE capabilities.

  ### 30. It has been being of great help to me to carry out my software developments in a fairly simple way

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthea M. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

For me, Payara Server has turned out to be the perfect application to manage in a safe, easy and fast way everything related to my web developments, since I can very easily emulate a web server from my computer without presenting any kind of inconvenience or that affects the performance of my computer, the fact that it allows me to host my web pages created remotely after installing this on my computer is also very helpful since it not only allows me to have a local testing environment where I can test and modify my developments, but also gives me a space to perform operational and performance tests with the web page already hosted on the server, in such a way that I can verify that the domain can be accessed without any inconvenience, it has a large number of information and documentation that has been very useful in case of any problem or inconvenience, allowing me to solve it on my own without the need to contact the customer support team, the ease and simplicity of initial setups also turns out to be quite impressive, as you don't need to waste a great deal of time trying to set everything up properly.

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

Performing some integrations of the security certificates can be a difficult task to achieve, especially when it comes to integrating the SSL certificate, which makes it practically impossible for me to configure all this in a short time, which should be an easier task to perform.

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has been being of great help to me to carry out my software developments in a fairly simple, easy and fast way by allowing me to have at my disposal everything I need to test my web pages in terms of design, performance and operation through the emulation of a web server from my computer, without having to pay monthly fees to professional web hosting services while I am in the design and creation stage of the website.

**Official Response from Jadon Ortlepp:**

> Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Payara Server. We're pleased to hear that it has provided you with the tools you need for testing and modifying your web developments. We understand the challenges with integrating security certificates and will continue to work on improving this aspect.

Great Administration Console for application management.

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

Documentation is very clear and Payara streams many interesting presentations.
BTW, it's very easy to setup and upgrade.
Perfect from small and large deployments.
Hazelcast implementation is a real game changer and help us to scale.
MicroProfile implementation (and micro payara) is also very good point.

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

Open community is growing but if you need assistance you still need to be patient few days.
You can also choose to improve your service with a commercial offer.

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scalability and High Availability was our main technical issue but using Payara Server and Payara Micro fixed a lot of technical problems.

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

We most recently used Glassfish3, so when we finally upgraded to Payara5 it was much needed. It's faster and more efficient! They regularly provide updates to it as well, which makes the user experience very easy.

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

This is probably just user error, but I often find that I need to restart it due to strange errors. Once it's restarted, the errors are immediately gone. I hope with their regular updates, that these issues go away.

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our biggest business problem was speed. It took a long time to deploy with the older Glassfish3. Now that we're on Payara5, we can get things accomplished more quickly.

**Official Response from Jadon Ortlepp:**

> We're glad to hear that you've found Payara Server to be a much-needed upgrade from Glassfish3, and that it has improved the speed and efficiency of your operations.

**What do you like best about Payara Server?**

Migrating a customer from WildFly to Payara Server was very easy, it just required minor changes to data sources configuration and setting up JDBC drivers.

**What do you dislike about Payara Server?**

So far not much, some developers took longer than anticipated setting up their IDE's.

**What problems is Payara Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We helped a customer moving two apps out of WildFly over licensing concerns.

**Official Response from Jadon Ortlepp:**

> We're glad to hear that migrating to Payara Server was easy for you!
