The best thing about CA Panvalet is its ease of use. Having the experience of working with other version controls , I believe Panvalet is the most easiest tool to use, be it retrieve, edit, delete, rename. Also, the MENU is so simple that we can easily navigate through for the required operations. **What do you dislike about Panvalet?** Can never really think of any features that I dislike. This product is so good that for someone even w/o much experience, they can start handling it in a day. One thing though is PANVALET might be difficult to use in AGILE cases as the code management would be a little bit complicated. **Recommendations to others considering Panvalet:** One suggestion to budding developers who use Panvalet is to always have the backup of their source code. The reason is in most cases, the source code locking feature will not be accessible to the developers so there is always a chance of our code getting overridden. In order to, avoid the rework it is always essential to have the backup. Also another key suggestion is, we can make us of the rename utility available so that the same program with different versions can be available (with different names though). **What problems is Panvalet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Benefits include the below: - Retrieval / Update can be done quickly. - We can secure the program / lock the program. - The BATCH mode support too is easy compared to other version controls where at times the creation of SCLs are time consuming & takes time to understand. ### 2. I have also used Panalet batch at other places. I would say the product works well as a source code manager. As another individual stated it is best to keep a copy of any source you have in the product as some sites modify the product and make it easy for other programmers to modify your source. **What do you dislike about Panvalet?** I prefer to use a product as it designed by the manufacturer. **Recommendations to others considering Panvalet:** Panalet is a good product for those companies needing an adequate source code management product. **What problems is Panvalet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am a past user and not currently using the product. Prior use has included source code for PL/1, COBOL programs, proc's, JCL and parmaters. The benefit is the management of the source code. ### 3. It provides locking of a particular code and checkin in easy understand able way. However change level number options can have more clear process **What problems is Panvalet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am currently using version 14.6 in mainframe system. It allows me to change the status , move from one instance to another easily check in and check out a copy of programs efficiently, compare different stage programs easily , check if file has any extra hex data are few benefits that help me. ### 6. Also support for member names with more than 8 characters would help in creating different clones of copybooks having the same layout for different purposes. **What do you dislike about Panvalet?** For changing the code a manual backup needs to be taken by the developer each and every time a code is being changed. Also when a code catch up is being done there is no automatic code merge option to merge the code to reduce the effort. **What problems is Panvalet solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use CA panvalet to create new programs using REXX layouts or amend existing programs for banking applications at our shop. ### 9.
