"Empowering Video Content Creation for Educators"

What do you like best about Panopto?

I find Panopto's browser recorder, remote recorder, and editor extremely useful. The transcriptions are also super beneficial for my needs. I appreciate the technical services team's support during the migration process, making it quick and accurate. The platform provides a great delivery method for video content and a toolkit for professors and instructors to create and edit videos remotely. What do you dislike about Panopto?

I would retool or omit the Elai tool. Additionally, the absence of AI summaries in the videos is a drawback. A feature that could generate AI summaries for users would be beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Panopto?

- New capabilities are being added, albeit they are addons to an existing Panopto license. These include AI-generated video with Elai, company video portal with Panopto Connect and Panopto Insights. It's a great portfolio of tools to choose from and keep everything under the same platform.

- The Panopto policies to manage archived and stored hours are fantastic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Panopto?

- The permissions to edit a video are still managed at folder level, meaning you need to add someone as a Creator to be able to edit one video. If the folder also contains other videos, then they get editing access to all videos in the folder not just the one you need them to edit. This creates data management issues.

- Automatic captions still need work.

- Creators cannot delete archived videos without restoring them from the archive first, which takes 48h. Therefore they need a Panopto admin to intervene, which increases admin overhead.

- The interface is still slow. When you have hundreds of folders, the 'Browse' button on the left-hand sidebar takes ages to display the hierarchy.

- Still no ability to separate audio from the primary video for more granular video editing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Panopto:

Consider it if you are looking for an affordable solution to store your Zoom recordings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Panopto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Where I work, we use Zoom as a virtual classroom, and we need to store recordings permanently somewhere. Zoom storage is prohibitively expensive, so it sends the recording to Panopto automatically when the meeting has finished. There is no need for our Zoom hosts to download and upload recordings manually. Panopto will pick up Zoom's automatic transcription or generate each own and allow you to use that instead. "Effortless Lecture Capture and Integration"

"Great for Academic Live Training"

What do you like best about Panopto?

One additional lovely feature added in recent years is the ability to integrate with Zoom. We have Zoom rooms in our school, and when we record classes through Zoom, they automatically populate in the correct classes. This is a HUGE help in not having to organize videos later. "Video Made Easy"

What do you like best about Panopto?

Panopto can be used by anyone: it has features for novice users who want a quick video to seasoned creators who need multiple sources. I can teach any faculty or staff member to use it in minutes. We even use it to have a visual record of role-specific tasks to capture tribal knowledge. I use it either with faculty, staff, or students weekly if not daily. What do you dislike about Panopto?

Editing in Panopto is not as robust as I wish it was. I wish it could be my one-stop-shop and allow for additions of annotations, transitions, audio/video separation, and stream locking for editing multiple streams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Panopto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Panopto allows me to make interactive videos that are secure, and it offers my students and course users the same ability. I love that I can hook it to my grade book and do content checks in the video. It makes walking through tasks with faculty and staff easy, and the fact that our entire institution has access to it means it serves as a repository of knowledge. "I Have Been A Panopto Fan for Over 20 Years"

What do you like best about Panopto?

Panopto is constantly innovating and improving its services. I met the founders of Panopto on the exhibit floor at the Pittsburg at the 2004 ACM/IEEE Supercomputing Conference, and they gave me two licenses for their Lecture Capture (one license for Clark University and a second for The Interdenominational Theological Center). Twenty years later, I participated in a Panopto demo of their video management system and within a month, I was replacing my existing Medial video management system with Panopto. Panopto offered twice as many innovative engagement tools within the video player and management system as my existing service at a much lower cost. I was so pleased to see how far Panopto had come in 20 years and excited to be working with them again at Columbia Theological Seminary. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Panopto?

When compared to other video management and video capture services, there has been nothing I have disliked about Panopto. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Panopto solving and how is that benefiting you?

With Panopto, out faculty can easily add videos to their instruction. Faculty can upload or record videos quickly and add them to our Moodle LMS. We also have set up a few video capture systems for our classrooms, so lecture capture can be done easily in face-to-face classes and the videos can appear in the courses Moodle site. "10+ years of great experiences with Panopto"

What do you like best about Panopto?

I was part of the cross-departmental team that selected Panopto as the best platform for our course recordings years ago and have continued as an admin and support staff member for years, finding their updates continue to make the tools more effective for our faculty and students and more efficient to manage over time.

It integrates beautifully with Canvas, and before that with Blackboard and our meeting recordings from Zoom have always been implemented well. Users who record directly with the Panopto recorder have noted it offers more functions and better results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Panopto?

Our initial subscription was under a different pricing structure and while I understand the changes over the last few years that have ballooned the use of recording and required new management approaches, it would have been helpful to have more of the great dashboards that they've always implemented for viewing stats on a user basis available for data on the admin side. They've made improvements to managing the total storage as we scripted policies, but I had to figure out how to manipulate the raw data to get the reports I needed at thie time to clean up our original data.
