Provider Description

Application Security Testing evaluates the security of web and mobile applications to protect them from cyber-attacks. From source-code all the way up to the browser, an application security assessment measures the effectiveness of the controls you currently have in place by simulating a hack. Our OWASP-based Application Security Testing goes far beyond the OWASP Top 10 and helps to uncover even the more hard-to-find vulnerabilities exploited by more sophisticated adversaries. We have developed a unique approach to source top talent which has resulted in far more thorough testing than industry standards. Each of our consultants has at a minimum, the coveted 24-hour OSCP certification. Most application security testers rely on automated testing alone. This is only the beginning of our process, which is followed by extensive manual processes to provide one of the most thorough services the industry offers. The problem with automation alone is that it is prone to false positives (e.g., incorrect findings) and false negatives (e.g., missing critical areas of the application, lack of context, chained exploits, and more). By never relying on automation, our experts explore opportunities for more advanced attackers, mimicking a real-world scenario. Packetlabs’ unique approach to application security testing begins with developing a threat model and taking the time to understand the overall purpose, the components, and their interaction with sensitive information or functionality. This approach enables realistic simulation of how an attacker would target your application and in turn, provides you with more value. Only after thorough analysis do we begin attempting to manually compromise each layer of defence within the environment.

Packetlabs was contracted to perform a penetration test of an in-house developed service hosted in the cloud, and our on premise infrastructure and systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Packetlabs?

The service provided an extensive report, highlighting supporting evidence of all vulnerabilities, and non conformance to security best practices. The report provided by Packetlabs provides an aggregated summary of your security rating for various categories against other clients. Their team provided excellent communication throughout the entire process and was flexible with their timing. The test and subsequent report were provided within a week of project kick off. Packetlabs followed up immediately after the test results to ensure that we were satisified with their service and if they could assist with any clarification of the items identified for improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Packetlabs?

We were unable to identify any areas within the service provided that we disliked or that we could recommend for improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Packetlabs:

When comparing different providers for security assessment, it's important to review credentials and certifications of the team that will be involved with your assessment. Packetlabs was very transparent with their team's level of experience and credentials. Prior to discovering Packetlabs we had attempted to reach out to other potential providers and often didn't receive a quick response or didn't receive a response at all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Packetlabs solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are currently engaged with a partner to obtain a SOC2 Type 1 report, and we are very focused on ensuring that our data and systems are protected. The penetration test has identified several opportunities for improvement that we are now diligently working on to remediate, which will help to provide our customers with a greater sense of trust and security.
