Oracle Golden Gate is an excellent tool which can be used to automate the replicate between instance. There are two ways of replication is available in Golden Gate. One is uni directional and the second one is bi directional. Uni directional goldengate is used widly in reporting application where the production data is replicated to the reporting application and the reports can run over the reorting database which will avoid performance issues on the production system. It is more complex to resolve if there is an lag issues between systems. Also if there is any network failure then the replication will get affected and the reporting database will provide the old data which has been captured before network failure from the prod database.
