What do you like best about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

Obviously, this version is limited in RAM (2Gb at the time of writing), CPU threads and user data (12 Gb at the time of writing), but it's free of charge! It's perfect for evaluating Oracle DB and/or running a small-scale test/dev environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

In 10g/11g, the limitations of Express Edition were quite harsh, but thankfully since v18c, the XE limits have been raised and allow much more room for manoeuvre. The current version at the time of writing (21c) allows for a maximum of 12Gb of database space. Honestly there is not much to dislike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I found this database software quite easy to use and it gives feedback while you are working with it, so you know what mistake you made while you are working at it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

I could not find plugins where auto complete could be enabled while typing queries. When auto complete is on, a user's task is considerable reduced and hence it becomes more user friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

Multitenant, In-Memory, Advanced Security, Advanced Analytics, easy to use for the developer, perfectly fits to our recent ML / AI workloads. Partitioning is enabled by default. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

Not all workloads can be used in it.

Unstructured, Non-SQL data can't be indexed or stored in it. However, for structured data it's a must to have.

Not good for those if you are thinking of using AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers other than OCI due to licensing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

We are the database admins and we use version 8 to 19c with cloud infrastructure grid environment and we can operate 24/7 with the client British petroleum UK. So overall I am happy to be an admin. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

In older versions we don't have expdp and some grid environment so I don't think the versions are advantage now we have hot backups and rman which we can do backups with out doing the db down. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

After planning the database as per your requirement, it's just a few clicks of buttons using the graphical tool and you have your database ready to use. The documentation for DBA is quite good and makes life easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)?

The oracle license is expensive and there is scope for improving the amount of user data limitation. Currently, the user data cannot exceed 12 GiB which doesn't suit all use cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
