Big Machines is a great configuration and quoting tool. It can help streamline your quote to ordering process. It is also quite easy to use for our customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can get highly involved on the administration side. It is better for standard configured items and a bit harder to used for customized products. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

BigMachines allows you to easily create quotes, customize highly complex products, price them, and generate a contract or quote for your customers. There are great ways to get up and running including some of the QuickStart packages that give you a wide range of functionality without any or a minimal amount of customization. There are a few issues with it. CPQ is inherently a difficult space. Creating a generic enough application so that customers can fit all of their pricing, configuration, and quoting needs can be difficult. BigMachines attempts to make a product that is highly customizable, but it can be sometimes easy to let your rules get out of control. The only functionality that I think would be helpful in the application is a robust unit testing framework built into the application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We've used BigMachines for a number of years as a strategic part of selling solutions. It is widely used and mature, with a lot of functionality. We've used it globally with good success. The salesforce.com integration is excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
BigMachines can be highly customized to meet your individual business needs. This can impact upgrades and the ease of consuming new functionality. I wish BigMachines was true multi-tenant SaaS, but they are the best available option. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Since the customization of capital goods becomes a competitive advantage, it is rather difficult to manage this complexity in the sales cycle. The flexibility of Big Machines allows funnel all the organizational knowledge of products experts into an easy to use sales tool for the sales force. The integration capabilities into SFDC will further enhance the easiness of use and avoids data entry in different systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Since most of configuration processes have never been institutionalized, the ongoing maintenance after the initial implementation should not be underestimated and will consume resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I loved working with BigMachines.
It is a great tool, and the admin platform is second to none.
It is quick to pick up and the power of the rule engine is unmatched (i have personally compared to sap variant configuration Config and other competitors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The configuration of the UI is a more involved that it could be, but a small price to pay. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
BigMachines is not just another one of many proposal generation tools that can integrate with salesforce. The platform has very robust administration and configuration and extensability options allowing companies to manage multiple / highly complicated quote-to-order scenarios. With the proven track record in its space at mega-clients worldwide, it is a short-list option that must be evaluated Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
eCommerce options are still not very developed. This is a required next step for the platform to support more type of businesses including B2C that needs to include configuration and quoting as part of their customer-facing applications.
As the product require on-going administration and configuration by the customers, more 3rd party resources should be available and BigMachines should invest efforts to develop and maintain its consulting partners echo-system worldwide. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fairly low cost, easy to implement integrated solution for configuration and quotes. Good hooks into Siebel/Oracle CRM OnDemand to show sales pipeline from created quotes. Excellent quote management system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Quirky bugs, primarily related to how images appear on quote output. Questionable support post implementation, even when the problems were related to logic engine shortcomings, document output issues, or failure of the BigMachines implementation team to understand business requirements. BigMachines provides an extremely flexible and configurable platform for sales configuration, pricing and proposal generation. The configuration module of BigMachines has allowed us to build much of the tribal knowledge into rules preventing simple errors in our product configuration. Because BigMachines has become so prescriptive there can be limitation on the things you can do with the User Interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

BigMachines is extremely customizable, and because of this, it allows any type of business to utilize its functionality. I am also a big fan of how they integrate easily into the most common 3rd party applications/products (i.e. Salesforce, Siebel, etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Customizing the product can be a very difficult and daunting task. There is so much to it that you either need to engage professional services or hire a 3rd party to assist with the implementation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
