**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Opal?**

I like that I can upload content to Opal and schedule it then not have to think about it again.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

I don't think that the user interface/experience is the best. It's a very cluttered workspace with a lot of options for multiple social platforms that really tend to get in the way.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For my company, Opal is very helpful for our account personnel. Opal allows us to see months worth of social posts at a time so we can get a more detailed look at the landscape of our accounts.

**Official Response from Katie Pocklington:**

> Fantastic to hear that Opal takes the headaches out of scheduling social media content. Seeing a full picture of your content is definitely one of the most popular benefits of the platform. Thank you very much for leaving us a review – and for being a customer!

  ### 9. Convenient but Asset Management is a Pain

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Automatic Creation of Presentations for clients

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Swapping in/out new Assets is tedious. You can't re-find assets once they are added to a platform. So if you import the same photo for Facebook and Instagram you have to reupload it a 2nd time before the system recognizes it's the samw file.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client Presentations

**Official Response from Katie Pocklington:**

> We appreciate you taking the time to review Opal! It’s great to hear that presentations has provided real value for you. Thank you for the feedback about difficulties with the asset library – we will pass this feedback along to the product team.

  ### 14. Super Easy Mocks & Planning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tara M. | Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

My favorite things are the mocks it makes for social media platforms. It's super easy to review, display, and upload content across multiple social media platforms. You can even choose thumbnails for Instagram content to show what it would look like in-feed. You can also change the mocks to be reflective of what you want to share: Video content, static images, Instagram stories versus Instagram posts and more. Lastly I love how they incorporated training videos. When I'm onboarding new team members, I have them watch the videos to get onboarded, in addition to training them myself.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

It isn't the most user-friendly. You have to click multiple buttons to find certain gadgets. It took me a few months to figure out how to use Opal properly. Luckily, they have training videos you can watch to help get the most up-to-date training and information. Another thing that I dislike is the inability to exceed the Twitter character count for mocks. With a verified Twitter account, I am usually able to write more than the typical one-hundred and eighty characters. However, it limits me to be an average user of Twitter within Opal. I also believe it won't let users upload GIFs and gives an error message.

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

Make sure you use the pre-recorded trainings. There are a wide variety of classes that you can watch on your own to make sure you get the most out of Opal! Always ask a friend or colleague for help if you ever need them too. They also have a support team who is great at answering questions in a live chat. My favorite thing was that when they weren't able to help, they still were able to relay the feedback up to their leadership team for me and take my thoughts into consideration.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am actively trying to display multiple options for social media posts to send to senior leadership for review. This way they are able to look at multiple pieces of content at once, and see it how it will exactly display on social media. I am also able to help streamline collaboration among my team. We can leave comments for specific pieces of content, tag each other, and add in approval phases with timelines. This makes it really easy to figure out if content is approved, or needs edits.

**Official Response from Erynn Baird:**

> Thanks for leaving us 5 stars, Tara! I’m glad that visualizing social posts before going live has been so helpful for your team. I can definitely understand how that would be a game changer. And as the head of our Customer Education team, I want to thank you for complimenting our product training videos!

I spoke with Technical Support about the couple issues you mentioned encountering, and I have good news! The character count flag for Twitter is only a warning, not a prevention. Opal lets you know when you’ve exceeded 180 characters, but you should be able to continue typing past that. As for the error you’re seeing when uploading a gif, that’s surprising to hear! Gifs are supported file types in Opal, and we’d love the opportunity to troubleshoot that unexpected error with you: support@workwithopal.com
Thank you again for sharing such thoughtful feedback for us, Tara! We appreciate it.

  ### 15. Enterprise Support for Social

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelley M. | Director, Social Media at Microsoft, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Opal allows my teams to manage the workflow for several social media brands at Microsoft. It allows us to plan our marketing efforts out, manage workflows and approvals, and does so in a clean, easy to understand UI.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Opal works really well for us, but we would like to see more advanced workflow capabilities that allow us to include non-social approvers as well as better presentation skills from calendar views. My other challenge is I would like to see my team use Opal more - integrated marketing and access to Adobe DAM.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My team manages all consumer social at Microsoft - we use Opal to solve the complexity around different lines of business, different social platforms and different editorial calendars. The ability for me to see into all of that is awesome. I've seen the benefits to my teams, my agency partners, and my leadership.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Kelley, we appreciate your feedback! It’s very exciting to read about how Opal helps Microsoft manage all consumer social marketing efforts. And on behalf of the product team, let me extend a special thank you for your compliments to our UI.

I’ve asked your CSM to reach out directly to discuss what kind of advanced workflow capabilities you’d find helpful. We always appreciate an opportunity to improve for our customers, so please don’t hesitate to share your ideas with my team.

Thank you for being a customer!

  ### 16. Opal has been the key to effective collaboration and fast-tracking projects!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angelic C. | Creative & Brand Marketing | Project Management , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Opal is flexible. You can customize your Opal workspace to mirror your external workstream process. It's not a rigid system where you must keep generic workflows and labels, which is important for consistency. The platform layout is also very esthetically organized and the information is digestible. I also love the "chat and activity" feature which gives visibility to the progress of a project in real-time.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

I can't think of anything I don't like about the platform.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was a challenge to manage incoming information and execute requests across various channels.

Opal provided one source of truth for briefs, data, copy, final images, product links, timelines, and due dates. Having all this information available in one location increased the speed and accuracy of delivering our content. The task flows, workflows, and chat and activity functions keep all projects on track. We rarely (if ever) miss deadlines or miss approvals. Even when we pivot due to business needs, it's not a heavy lift; it's seamless in the platform. It also solved a considerable problem we had with visibility. Now cross-functional team members can reference previous projects or preview upcoming content in the queue.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Angie, on behalf of the whole team, thank you for leaving us a 5-star review. It’s wonderful to see how Opal has helped your team align and collaborate so effectively!

Thanks for being an Opal champion!

  ### 17. The Project Planner You Need

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Opal is an incredible tool that allows multiple teams to draft, plan, and showcase what they're planning to publish on social. Highly collaborative and most importantly - worry free. Opal has irons away all the worries Social Media Managers have when it comes to openly drafting and sharing their content with other teams. Such as the worry of drafting content and accidentally publishing it. Opal ONLY serves to draft and plan posts, so there's no fear of accidentally pressing "save as draft" VS "publish." Another worry-free feature is every edit is tracked and can be compared to new edits. This feature provides accountability and transparency to see who last handled the content and when. This removes any mystery that might encourage a social team to keep their plans "secret until the last minute" because they're afraid of it being wrongfully touched with no answers.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

The only downside, that I must emphasize is a social team preference, is that Opal can not link and publish to social channels. This would make Opal a stronger tool - however, there is a safe feeling knowing that content can thrown around without any risk of accidentally pushing it live. A solve for both sides could be if Opal were to become a publishing tool it would be nice to include somewhere in the personal settings to unlock/lock publishing access. Just to safe-proof certain users from every publishing.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opal solves the siloed projects. When it comes to project planning social content it allows multiple teams to see what's coming up and plan accordingly to avoid crossfire.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thanks so much for this 5-star review! You left a lot of really great insight to help us get a deeper understanding of how Opal solves for the social media marketing use case. We appreciate the detail!

I’ll relay your feedback around publishing to the Product team. As you said, Opal is intended to be a planning platform rather than a publishing tool, but we do have integrations that can make the whole process seamless! Reach out to your CSM or support@workwithopal.com any time to learn more.

Thank you again!

  ### 18. Powerful platform for content, social and marketing planning.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron A. | Marketing Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

The Opal platform satisfies the need for detailed campaign planning across channels while offering high-level views for senior leaders. I liked the feeling that by performing a task in Opal—whether it was expanding a concept for a seasonal launch or planning specific dates and times of publication—your efforts never felt wasted.
• The Opal team is highly supportive.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Opal's cost can be a hurdle and requires buy-in and commitment from multiple teams and departments.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Team Alignment
Easier campaign planning
Easier campaign execution

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thanks so much for sharing your feedback, Aaron! And as the head of Customer Success, let me say a personal thank you for the compliment to our support team. I know I speak for everyone at Opal when I say how much we appreciate hearing that our product made it easier for your team to align in planning and executing campaigns.

  ### 19. Opal is not very user friendly

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

the calendar feature is useful and visual.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

It is not user friendly, the options to leave feedback could be better by being able to annotate regions of the post. Approve with comments is not enough to signal that major changes are required without rejecting the post. it does not show different social media formats and we have to work around it.

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

Not at the moment, sorry

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can check the material McCann is forwarding me to review but I don't feel satisfied with the experience. Time and again I've tried to get the Opal notifications to know when to go in and check my pending work and this is not happening, going on like this for almost two years. I like that I can see the comments from other people from the business, but I'll say it again, it should be easier and clearer the level of adjustment the post needs.

**Official Response from Erynn Baird:**

> Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Opal. It sounds like we missed the mark with product training. I’d love to set up a short 1:1 to show you how to annotate content and visualize posts for all your channels—please reach out to schedule whenever you have a moment: education@workwithopal.com

Additionally, any feedback you have for onboarding new users or ongoing training is greatly appreciated! We always strive to improve the customer experience with Opal.

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Opal puts everything at my fingertips while sharing with the entire team, streamlining alts and approvals.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Not the most handsome interface, and a bit of a learning curve.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opal is helping to speedily share projects among disparate groups in various locations.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thank you for leaving a review of Opal! I know having that kind of visibility across teams and locations can be a real game-changer—wonderful to hear!

If you can think of any specific sticking points as you were learning the platform, I’d love to get that in the hands of our Customer Education team: education@workwithopal.com. We appreciate every opportunity to improve the user experience.

  ### 21. It's a fantastic planning tool, may need improvement working with Social Studio.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karen P. | Membership Associate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

The upsides to using Opal are getting a big picture view of our different teams' social media strategies. It also makes collaboration easy.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

I wouldn't say I like the tech issues that arise when transferring social posts from Opal to Salesforce Social Studio. Link previews always seem to cause problems.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opal is helping my association's collaboration efforts. We have multiple teams working on their social strategies, and Opal helps us support each other and cross-promote efforts.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Karen, thank you so much for reviewing Opal! It’s great to hear you’re better able to collaborate and align across teams using our planning platform. I spoke with your CSM about post previews in Social Studio, and it sounds like he’s actively working with support to resolve this--I’ll ask him to reach out and discuss with you.

  ### 22. Opal is a great content visualization + collaboration resource.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

The visualization capabilities are unlike any other tool I've encountered. The UI is excellent - overall, the platform is very well-designed. Our team finds it to be relatively intuitive. Our approvers love the approvals workflow.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

We've encountered some bugs when slating our content, but our reps are super quick to address the bugs when we surface them. I also wish we could publish directly from the platform.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem we're solving is visualizing content before publishing and getting it approved. I used to use a very manual GoogleDoc to visualize our content, and it took a lot of time - Opal saves us time.

  ### 23. Powerful editorial calendar for any content-focused team.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lauren S. | Marketing Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

I love that Opal provides visibility into the content planning process across teams. It's a helpful way to stay organized and keep teammates informed.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Opal can occasionally operate very slowly, sometimes requiring multiple page refreshes, which inhibits the planning process.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opal helps us keep all of our content planning in one place and provides visibility across our team and stakeholders.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thanks for leaving us a 5-star review, Lauren! It’s a pleasure to hear your team is better aligned using Opal as a single source of truth for content marketing.

I know our tech support team would love to troubleshoot the slow load times you’re experiencing, so I’ll have our Technical Support Specialist reach out asap. And please know you’re always welcome to contact your CSM or support@workwithopal.com if the platform isn’t running as expected. We love opportunities to improve our customers’ experience in Opal!

  ### 24. Great Platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

It's easy to use and great for viewing your marketing as a whole for the fiscal year.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

I have a hard time with how images uploaded are instantly put into categories so it can make it difficult to find them.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to present our paid media marketing strategies as a whole for the fiscal year to our teams with ease with the ability to take the year as a presentation from opal.

**Official Response from Erynn Baird:**

> Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with Opal! Our dynamic presentations are absolutely a powerful tool for sharing marketing efforts with other stakeholders, and the holistic view of your team’s plans across time and channels can be a game changer. I’m so glad you’re enjoying Opal!

If I’m reading your feedback about assets correctly (uploading a creative asset via the content automatically tags the asset with the Story that content belongs to) then I have a quick fix for you! Next time you open the Asset Library via a piece of content to insert an image, clear the filters. Opal defaults to display only creative assets that are tagged with the content’s Story as a means to reduce searching hundreds or thousands of assets across the entire workspace. Clearing that filter, however, will make the entire Asset Library accessible for any content within any Story. If I’m missing the mark here, please reach out to support@workwithopal.com so we can help.

Thank you for being a customer!

  ### 25. Seamless and easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

The calendar feature where you can drag content anywhere within the week + have visibility across all social channels

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Nothing much in particular - perhaps less troubleshooting when it comes to syncing with providers (ie Sprinklr).

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

Do go on a 101 crash course before using it - pretty efficient and user friendly after :)

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provides visibility of social content across all internal stakeholders

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thank you for leaving us a review! I’m glad to hear Opal has enabled visibility and efficiency for you and your team. Please be sure to loop in your CSM or our Tech Support team next time there’s a sync issue between Opal and Sprinklr. I’d love to see if it’s something we can resolve on our side for you: support@workwithopal.com

  ### 26. Easier to use and more intuitive than other social project management platforms

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Creating and editing the review process is the most intuitive I've seen.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Load time is very lagg-y when I make edits; not sure if that is because of my browser or the platform.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're able to see exactly how a post will appear and our clients "get it" right away versus having to make a mockup every time.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thank you for this feedback—It’s wonderful to hear about your experience on the agency side! I can only imagine how much easier approvals are when you can visualize social posts and other content for your clients.

I checked with the Product team, and there aren’t any known speed issues in the platform currently. Please reach out to Tech Support to see if we can help identify the cause: support@workwithopal.com

  ### 27. Overly Complicated

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

I like the ability to see who contributes content and who alters that content.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

The content categories are confusing. The month calendar view is difficult to view and inconvenient.

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

Attend the training sessions.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opal is helping our organization with cross-function coordination. It has become a resource that everyone can use to coordinate timing for marketing beats.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> On behalf of the Opal team, thank you for sharing your experience. We certainly never want a user to have this kind of experience with us, but we appreciate the opportunity to learn where we missed the mark--and improve!

It sounds like the content categories are the labels set by your workspace admin, and--if that’s the case--they’re easy to update. I’d really like to have someone from the customer service team reach out to help with this, and more thoroughly understand the hurdles you’re encountering in Opal. Please drop us an email at education@workwithopal.com so we can coordinate a time to learn from you.

Thank you again for leaving your feedback.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

Downside is the level of detail required for submissions at times

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

no specific recommendations, though i do think it is a helpful platform for coordinating between teams

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

benefit of easy client reviews, especially with approvers pre-populated

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thanks for sharing your experience with Opal, especially on the agency side. I’m glad to hear our templated workflows/approvals make client reviews so much easier on your team!

It sounds like you’re referring to the intake form created by our shared customer for submissions. The good news is they have control over what that looks like, so there’s definitely opportunity to adjust it if it’s not fitting your collective needs! You’re more than welcome to reach out to our support team if we can help here: support@workwithopal.com

  ### 31. Great Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Opal?**

I'm a copywriter, so I really like how I can see exactly what the post is going to look like in Opal before writing my caption for the social team to review.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

I haven't experienced any downsides while using the platform.

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Opal helps the social team map out the month ahead, and allows the copywriters and designers to collaborate on what the post/instagram story will look like ahead of reviews.

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thanks so much for this 5-star review! It’s great to hear that your experience as a creative using Opal is so positive. I’ll be sure to pass along your compliments about the helpfulness of previewing social posts prior to publishing, too. I know the product team will appreciate your feedback.

**Reviewed by:** ravi k. | Media Operations

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2021

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

some times the approve button will be disappeared for an approver, this is not a big deal, just keeping in the place

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

scalability and accuracy

**Official Response from Donna Schultz:**

> Thanks so much for leaving us this 5-star review, Ravi! I’m very pleased to read that Opal makes your marketing scalable and accurate. And feel free to send a screenshot to your CSM the next time the approve button doesn’t show—Happy to show that to the product team.

  ### 33. Organized Calendar

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Opal?**

Easy to use for calendar organization, and it’s great to be able to easily sync the information to any other calendar app that one may use on their phone or laptop. Opal is very easy to use as an employer and student.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

I dislike that there is no better view of the calendar, you have to expand the view in order to see everything better or use another app.

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

It’s easy to navigate!

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am primarily using Opal to keep my schedule in check as a medical student. Making sure I know when I have class or have to be at the hospital.

  ### 34. Opal Platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Opal?**

I like that it is such a collaborative system. In any company of scale, it is hard to track people down and get a bigger team in a meeting that results in productive work. This helps things move more seamlessly and everyone is on the same page.

**What do you dislike about Opal?**

The only thing I dislike is It is hard to get creatives to learn something new or to participate on something like this. It is definitely a project management or account based tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Opal:**

--

**What problems is Opal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were solving communication issues by putting information together in a visually pleasing and easy to understand manner.

Content collaboration and streamlining approvals.
