The ever-improving platform comes with many very useful features for auditing, change tracking within submissions, API integration for constructing data integrated AI-enabled dashboards to highlight analysis of collected data in near real-time. The native user interface offered in the subscription service provides a solid foundation to navigate and review submissions to ensure data quality on the project admin side, and allows flagging for follow up review and rejection of submissions, which is also API integrable to external applications for expanded automated data quality flagging and management. Over the past 10 months as a subscription base member, our project has had zero access issues and zero downtime. Tech support has been very prompt to respond to questions and helpful to troubleshoot ODK use. Excellent value! **What do you dislike about ODK?** ODK subscription service has been a pleasure to use, however the self-hosting option can be difficult to navigate as not all of the functionality of ODK has been tested in the knowledge base regarding deploying ODK in advanced network security environments. **What problems is ODK solving and how is that benefiting you?** ODK is instrumental in providing a secure platform to enable community-based field work in remote locations that do not have internet/network access. With ODK Collect, surveyors are able to conduct surveys in off-grid locations and later submit to ODK Central when they can return to a connected region with service. ### 2. There are many helpful resources available, so you can quickly pick it up and become comfortable building forms and workflows. It works offline, which is essential for field settings, and it’s widely used, so there’s a strong community and good support. Even without using its more advanced features, the core functionality has been incredibly valuable. The built-in quality control checks we can embed in surveys have significantly improved data integrity and consistency. We also regularly use the QR code scanning feature to efficiently capture lab sample IDs and other identifiers, reducing errors and saving time. Because it’s so user-friendly, our partners are also more willing to learn it and use it consistently. ODK has made the transition from paper-based to electronic data collection smooth and practical for our teams. Overall, it’s a reliable, flexible tool that has strengthened our data collection processes. **What do you dislike about ODK?** One challenge with ODK is that forms can become quite complicated to manage in Excel, especially as they get more complex. It’s manageable once you get used to it, but it would be nice if there were an easier or more intuitive way to build and organize forms. **What problems is ODK solving and how is that benefiting you?** One of the biggest problems ODK has helped solve for us is reducing data entry errors. Before, teams had to manually enter IDs that included such coding as a three-letter district code, a two-letter community code, and a student number, which was very prone to mistakes. The QR code scanning feature has made a huge difference. It allows us to capture those IDs quickly and accurately, which saves time and greatly reduces errors. Overall, it has both improved the quality and reliability of our data and made field data collection much more efficient. ### 3. In general, I find the features to be robust, dependable, and impressively advanced for a field data collection tool. **What do you dislike about ODK?** The main limitation I noticed is that the platform does not support data analysis directly. I realize that this isn't the primary function of ODK, since its main strength lies in efficient data collection and management. The newly added AI feature was particularly helpful for me. Further, the ODK team has made quite a few improvements to the software over the years as a direct reflection of our feedback. I'm so grateful for this program and the helpful customer support. ODK was a frequent resource in the development and launch of our Regenerative Outcome Verification **What do you dislike about ODK?** I find that ODK has some limitations in ease of use. For example, not being able to rename entity lists after they have been added. This has caused confusion on our end and required unnecessary duplication of work. I am sure this is a result of the limitations of the back-end code **What problems is ODK solving and how is that benefiting you?** We need to collect data in the field, where cell service is not often available. Further, we need data collection to aid in longitudinal analysis; I believe the entities feature will support in this. ### 5. At our institute, we run an ODK Central instance with around 200 users and about 30,000 submissions per year. The platform has truly accelerated our transition to efficient, secure, reliable, and user-friendly field data collection. The simplicity of form design, combined with the ease of integration with other analysis tools (especially PostgreSQL and R Shiny), is a huge advantage for us. The strength and vibrancy of the community around the ODK ecosystem are also fantastic. **What do you dislike about ODK?** Setting up and administering ODK Central in a self-hosted environment does require some IT expertise. Also, implementing complex form logic can be a bit more challenging in XLSForm compared to using more traditional coding approaches. **What problems is ODK solving and how is that benefiting you?** ODK helps us streamline and secure field data collection across multiple research projects. Before adopting ODK, our teams relied on paper forms or heterogeneous digital tools, which made data validation, synchronization, and analysis cumbersome.
