"Flexible, Reliable ODK Surveys with Powerful Integrations and Prompt Support"

What do you like best about ODK?

ODK is a very flexible open-source solution to enable community-based surveys in remote or bandwidth-limited regions. The ever-improving platform comes with many very useful features for auditing, change tracking within submissions, API integration for constructing data integrated AI-enabled dashboards to highlight analysis of collected data in near real-time. The native user interface offered in the subscription service provides a solid foundation to navigate and review submissions to ensure data quality on the project admin side, and allows flagging for follow up review and rejection of submissions, which is also API integrable to external applications for expanded automated data quality flagging and management. Over the past 10 months as a subscription base member, our project has had zero access issues and zero downtime. What do you dislike about ODK?

ODK subscription service has been a pleasure to use, however the self-hosting option can be difficult to navigate as not all of the functionality of ODK has been tested in the knowledge base regarding deploying ODK in advanced network security environments. What problems is ODK solving and how is that benefiting you?

ODK is instrumental in providing a secure platform to enable community-based field work in remote locations that do not have internet/network access. With ODK Collect, surveyors are able to conduct surveys in off-grid locations and later submit to ODK Central when they can return to a connected region with service. "Seamless Offline Surveys with Robust, Advanced Features"

What do you like best about ODK?

What I appreciated most about ODK was its capability to conduct surveys offline, which allowed for seamless data collection even in remote locations without internet connectivity. Every form functioned perfectly, and I could attach photos to survey responses, greatly enriching the quality of the data gathered. What do you dislike about ODK?

The main limitation I noticed is that the platform does not support data analysis directly. I realize that this isn't the primary function of ODK, since its main strength lies in efficient data collection and management. Still, offering analysis tools would be a helpful addition for users. What problems is ODK solving and how is that benefiting you?

ODK addresses a significant challenge in data collection, particularly in rural or remote areas where internet connectivity is limited or nonexistent. These are exactly the settings where scientific research and field assessments are most crucial, yet they are often the most difficult to carry out effectively. With its ability to facilitate offline surveys that can be synchronized once a connection is available, ODK guarantees uninterrupted and reliable data capture. "ODK Makes Complex Surveys Easy for Non-Coders"

What do you like best about ODK?

As someone without a coding background, ODK is a relatively easy way to design custom surveys with complex features for in-field data collection. The newly added AI feature was particularly helpful for me. Further, the ODK team has made quite a few improvements to the software over the years as a direct reflection of our feedback. I'm so grateful for this program and the helpful customer support. ODK was a frequent resource in the development and launch of our Regenerative Outcome Verification Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ODK?

I find that ODK has some limitations in ease of use. For example, not being able to rename entity lists after they have been added. This has caused confusion on our end and required unnecessary duplication of work. I am sure this is a result of the limitations of the back-end code Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"ODK has become an essential tool in our data collection workflow"

What do you like best about ODK?

We really appreciate that the ODK ecosystem is fully open-source and can be installed on our own infrastructure.

At our institute, we run an ODK Central instance with around 200 users and about 30,000 submissions per year.

The platform has truly accelerated our transition to efficient, secure, reliable, and user-friendly field data collection. The simplicity of form design, combined with the ease of integration with other analysis tools (especially PostgreSQL and R Shiny), is a huge advantage for us.

What do you dislike about ODK?

Setting up and administering ODK Central in a self-hosted environment does require some IT expertise.

Also, implementing complex form logic can be a bit more challenging in XLSForm compared to using more traditional coding approaches. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

ODK helps us streamline and secure field data collection across multiple research projects. Before adopting ODK, our teams relied on paper forms or heterogeneous digital tools, which made data validation, synchronization, and analysis cumbersome.

With ODK Central, we now have a unified, open-source platform that ensures data consistency, facilitates collaboration between field and data teams, and integrates seamlessly with our analytical workflows (PostgreSQL, R, and Shiny).

We need to be able to collect data from people who live in a variety of terrains, contexts, and skill levels with smart phones/ devices. Having a link and QR code along with an app that respondents are familiar with helps ensure our forms reach the people we need.
