ODK has significantly improved our data collection, enabling us to quickly create functional forms in the shortest time possible and greatly reducing tool development and deployment time. I would not only recommend it to others but also plan to use it in future projects myself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
However, the only drawback I've encountered is that it lacks the capability to automate custom processes/workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I've been using ODK intensively for about 5 years now (almost on a daily basis) and most of my projects relies on it. It's ease to use and implement on the field, very flexibe, and has strong form logic and data validation while creating surveys. Furthermore the ODK Collect app is incredibly reliable even in very poor connectivity scenarios. The ODK Central ads a huge layer of data security and auditing and provides data sharing with almost everything, from ODATA implementantion out of the box to connectors for Python and R. There is also a vibrant user community that helps a lot for support and inspiration and the Insiders group which brings active members closer to developers team. Absolutely recomended! I don't actually dislike the way it works now, but the interface for showing submitted data on ODK Central could be improved to ease of finding specific submissions, specially in thousands of submissions scenarios. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ODK is used by many humanitarian agencies including the one I work for, so clearly has a great user experience.
I will comment from the perspective of a *software developer*, as I build tools that leverage ODK underneath:
- I never have to worry about ODK as part of my technology stack. It is always reliable and available when needed.
- The design has been well thought out for easy interfacing with other tools.
- The developments are ongoing & ODK continues to innovate new ideas to enhance user experience.
- The dev team is very approchable and receptive to user feedback.
- Their code is fully open-source and development practices transparent.
Overall I wouldn't consider switching to other tools, as ODK is clearly the front runner in this space.
Keep up the good work! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is a bit of fragmentation in the ecosystem, with other tools doing very similar things, making life more difficult as a software developer having to integrate multiple tools. ODK is better in almost every aspect, so it would be great if users could converge around one tool! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

ODK is accessible and user-friendly at all levels, including for project managers like myself, field teams, and analysts. Its simplicity makes it one of the most robust software solutions for data collection. The recently released entities function, continuous improvements, clear documentation, and active community support enable the design of strong workflows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is little I dislike about ODK. However, working with traceability and first-mile data can be challenging, as capturing reality accurately is not always easy. ODK is not designed for end-to-end commodity traceability management, but when used for its intended purposes—such as mapping and household registration—and linked to other systems, it performs exceptionally well. Additionally, paper remains a preferred method for some, which can make behavior change and adoption frustrating. That said, working with ODK is always a pleasure. OKD is feature rich, logical and easy to use, and driven by people whose ethics are absolutely in the right place when it comes to providing an open source data collection tool that is miles above any other similar tool.
Its straightforward to platform (if thats the path you take. they do offer comprehensive support if you take the premium option).
The Odata and XLS platform makes the transition of existing forms as well as reporting in a BI tool very straightforward and easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Onboarding it manually to save cost can be daunting, but if you follow their provided tutorials to the letter you won't have any issues.
It would be nice to customise it with organisational branding - but I'm sure this is something in the works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My company works in African countries, and needed a data collection tool that could work off-line. We also needed a solution that wasn't priced per end user, and ODK fits both of these requirements. So far my experience with ODK has been really positive. This was my first time building an XLS template for ODK Collect, and between the forum, YouTube and ChatGBT I was able to get an amazing amount done in a shjort time with zero experience. Customer service has been good as well, ressponding within 24 hours to any email inquiries. I would definately recommend ODK, and this will be the solution our company uses from now on. It is a shame the solution doesn't work with iPhone, although I understand the App Store ecosystem is a challenge. Google Plus Codes are also not supported in the front-end for ODK Collect, meaning we have to come up with a back-end solution to transfrom GPS coordinates to Plus Codes, but these Plus Codes will not be vbisible for the ODK Collect users. One of the most powerfull and stable data collection tools there is. And a lively, committed and collaborative community supporting the development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some essential features that are important for landuse are very slowly (or not) developed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Love it's innovative features, open source, and the clear comprehensive documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ODK Collect App is only for Android so on Apple devices you need to use the web based form, not a big deal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ODK Central has a very simple and well laid out interface making for some really delightful navigation. New users will be especially thankful for this and the inherent lack of a learning curve. All the same, for power users who would like to look under the hood, the documentation and forum will be more than sufficient. The team is especially open to hearing ideas from users on things they would like added and/or modified. They welcome the conversation and help better understand how everything ties together and even the thought that goes into some of their design choices. The customer support and turnaround time on issues is a lifesaver.
One other thing that comes in handy is ODK's ability to integrate with other data analysis/manipulation tools as well as the API to access, manipulate and manage your data as you see fit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nothing so far. Did I mention it works offline? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would strongly recommend the survey tool to my colleagues and friends. I have received a lot of help from you and your team, which has been very helpful for my work.
One great aspect of ODK is that if users request a new function or tool and your team deems it necessary, it gets adopted into the ODK system. This adaptability is truly remarkable. However, this dynamic nature makes it challenging for me to find the updated guidelines on the ODK website.
Nevertheless, I have received significant support from the ODK community platform, where your team actively responds. This is really impressive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's closely related what I like about ODK. ODK team adopted new function or tool. Some guideline can be outdated. But it only applies to someone who uses everyday basis like me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
