## Octave BricsCAD Reviews
 ### 1. BricsCAD + AWS: Reliable, Cloud-Scalable DWG Automation with Strong .NET Scripting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prasanth K. | Enterprise Architect | Cloud Transformation Leader | Driving Multi-Cloud Strategy, Solutions | DevSecOps Excellence | Innovation Resilient Infrastructure at Scale, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

What works for our nternal teams is that; BricsCAD integrates exceptionally well with AWS when used as a CAD automation engine on Windows EC2 or WorkSpaces. Its strong scripting support for .NET, makes it easy for us to build event‑driven workflows that process DWG files directly from S3 triggers. With AWS Lambda orchestrating tasks and Systems Manager executing scripts remotely, BricsCAD becomes a reliable, cloud‑scalable tool for converting drawings, validating standards, and extracting metadata without manual intervention.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

BricsCAD still requires a Windows runtime, which limits containerization options and prevents fully serverless deployments. Running GUI‑based software in headless EC2 environments also requires tuning to avoid session timeouts. Licensing management on cloud instances could be more streamlined for large automation fleets.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use BricsCAD to automate CAD processing inside AWS. Engineers upload DWG files to S3, which triggers a Lambda workflow that calls BricsCAD on EC2 via Systems Manager. The automation scripts validate drawings, extract block attributes, generate PDFs, and publish outputs back to S3. Metadata is cataloged with Glue and queried through Athena for reporting and analytics.
Scalable batch processing using EC2 and Step Functions and its Lower operational cost compared to traditional desktop‑based CAD workflows is a value add.
Needless to say it seamless integration with existing AWS infrastructure

 ### 2. Intuitive, Full-Featured DWG CAD with Fast Performance on Large Files

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nijat I. | Full-stack Developer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Using BricsCAD is very good at delivering a full-featured CAD experience while also being compatible with DWG. I used this software to draft technical drawings and I found that switching from other CAD software was not a problem, it felt very intuitive. Also I found that this software was very efficient, especially with large files, and that it didn’t require any special hardware to run. I also appreciate that this software has advanced features such as 3D modeling and automation in a single license.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Advanced features are not easily accessible by new users. Though DWG compatibility is excellent, some minor differences compared to more established CAD programs can be seen during complicated operations. Learning resources are good but not as extensive as those offered by larger competitors, which might take some time for new users to learn. Also, customization options are present but need technical knowledge to be used to the fullest.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BricsCAD has addressed the problem of using costly CAD software but still requiring professional drafting and modeling tools. Before using BricsCAD, the costs of the license and the requirements of the system were major limitations. I have been able to use the software to work with complex drawings, edit large DWG files, and work with 2D and 3D models without any performance issues, thus saving costs and improving flexibility in terms of workflow while still allowing me to complete the work efficiently without any compatibility problems.

 ### 3. 90% of AutoCAD’s functionality at a fraction of the cost

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** El J. | designer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Affordable: Costs much less than AutoCAD, with one-time license options.
Fast: Runs smoothly, even on older computers.
Easy to learn: Works almost the same as AutoCAD, so switching is simple.
All-in-one: Handles 2D drafting, 3D modeling, mechanical, and BIM in one tool.
Compatible: Opens DWG files, makes clean PDFs, and supports AutoCAD routines and toolbars.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Blocks: Parametric blocks are weaker than AutoCAD’s and can slow things down.
Support: Customer service can be slow to respond.
Bugs: Some updates make the program slower or less stable.
Missing features: A few AutoCAD commands and tools aren’t available or are less polished.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BricsCAD solves the problem of expensive CAD software by offering a much cheaper alternative to AutoCAD without losing key functions.
For me as an architect and designer, it means I can work with DWG files, create 2D drawings, and move into 3D or BIM when needed—all in one tool.

It runs smoothly on my computer, even without high-end hardware, which saves time and frustration. Since the interface is almost the same as AutoCAD, I didn’t have to spend weeks learning something new.

The main benefit is that I can deliver professional drawings and models at a lower software cost, freeing up budget for other design tools or project needs.

 ### 4. Outstanding Documentation Tools improvements leading to perfection

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joris S. | Team Topologies Advocate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

better documentation tools: section-plane manipulation & interference checking

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

endless competing with incumbents.
they position themself as the true CAD alternative, should be the best ... for your convenience

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The buyer decision maker of our organisation cares most about flexible licensing; open format & cost.

My colleagues look for multidiscipline collaboration; performance & tech stack built for scale.

We're happy to see BricsCAD V26 supports more complex & robust workflows.

 ### 5. 2D Yes - 3D ?! PLEASE improve

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Workflow and Commands are reliable, good crossovers like Civil Extensions and Vestra-Build ins. 2D Workspace is reliable and good to manage. You can Customize almost everything withing BricsCAD. When it comes to 2D Drawings, im very very happy with the Software.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

3D Layout is still in the middle ages. To be more clear, your Drawing will be fine in Modelspace, but as soon as you want to start layouting your project in Paperspace it becomes a mess to work with. To be clear, the drawing will become insanley huge. Unbearable without minimum 100GB Workstorage/RAM at hand, the movement within your 3D buildings will be limited to stutters and its all over not a good area to work in since the Layouts gonna be messed up and moved as soon as you change somesthing on the 3D Build, when you already started some layouts in Paperspace. User friendly? no -.- Project friendly? also no. BIM friendly with even more Data acked in your Drawings? Hell no.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Infrastructure planning involes a lot of checking for collision. 3D would be the way to do so without calculating everything for the custumers, since they can visibly see whats going on.

 ### 6. Anything AutoCAD can do, BricsCAD can do (almost) better

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor B. | Director of Design & Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

The price compared to AutoCAD. It seems to run smoother as well and not as laggy.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

It's parametric block design compared to AutoCAD's dynamic blocks. I HATE how the visibility states can be outside of the block so that when you explode a block that has visibilities will then be put into the dwg outside of the block. This causes crazy lag if you need to explode multiple blocks. This requires you to use the DEPARAMETRIZE command before you explode, but this also removes the imported fields inside the blocks. Not ideal. I also do not like how when you copy and paste an entity inside of a block that is tied to a visibility, it copies and pastes that visibility again. (Because you can have more than one visibility inside of a block... cool idea, but now I see why AutoCAD doesn't allow it)

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The price of AutoCAD is crazy high, so we went to BricsCAD which as a daily user (excluding parametric block creation), is the same. So, it saves us buckets of cash year after year.

 ### 7. Best for Value

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricardo A. | Production Manager, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2023

- One of the Best to produce, "Pre-feed" drawings and "Sho drawings" in one singl platform.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

- Not the fastest software in the market.
- Not the best for complete "Plants" design, does not manage very well big files.
- The "Sheet Metal" module still needs work, does not feel completely developed yet.
- Tool Bars, contain too much information.
- It is Overwhelming to sart using wihtout help, due to it´s hundreds of visible "buttons".
- Old Design interface, Looks old.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Bricscad allowed to have a complete industrial design platform for a fraction of the price of the main ones in the market.
- It is really fast to produce shopdrawings, wich allowed the shop have more detail, therefore less mistakes.

 ### 8. As Autocad designer

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

There is nothing specific but right clicking of mouse as it is my personal habit

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solution to the draw drawings of the new operation theatre with 3d depths and feel

 ### 13. A Modern Powerhouse if you invest the time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Warren J. | Architect and Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

I license BricsCAD Ultimate along with Twinmotion, 3Dconnexion and Google Drive. The combination provides a state-of-the-art toolset that works both off-line and online and allows me to design with full BIM detail, create photorealistic 3D renderings, fly-thru digital twins, and share detailed BIM data, renderings, and drawings with contractors. Bricsys customer support is excellent. The ability to own a toolset that works completely offline makes it indispensable when traveling around the world with my laptop. Finally, I loved that BricsCAD, Twinmotion and 3Dconnexion offered a perpetual license option and it was affordable even as I am still 'tapering off' one of my Autodesk subscriptions. As I approach the lighter work schedules of "retirement", I love the idea that my software will not stop working if I am unable to pay a thousand dollars each quarter.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

BricsCAD is extremely customizable and it can take some time and experimentation to develop optimal workflows and configurations. It is AutoCAD with a really nice. 3D BIM capability, but don't expect the out-of-the-box features to enable integration between 2D drawings and 3D BIM workflows. I suggest you plan to spend time with the tool to build workflows, schedules, templates and components (because there are few/no 3rd party component libraries integrated out-of-the-box).

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The big change is the ability to use a single toolset for everything. And not just start to finish BIM, but the ability to generate state-of-the art digital twins, and share data with contractors. I edit in BricsCAD and use a space mouse with 3dconnexion to do a quick 3D fly-around inspection. Then I use a programmed button on the space mouse that exports BIM data to Google Drive (which any number of contractors can securely access). Finally, I have a button that performs the DataDirect sync with Twinmotion which I use for 3D fly-thru inspections to spot issues before finally sharing a remote fly-thru view with contractors (using Cloud features included with the Twinmotion licensed and hosted by Epic Games).

 ### 14. BricsCAD is very much similar to AutoCAD. People who use AutoCAD can use BricsCAD very easily.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanjeev K. | Manager - Design (Electrical), Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

It is very much similar to AutoCAD. People already using AutoCAD don't need any special training for working on BricsCAD.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

I don't find anything negative for BricsCAD

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

2-D drawings can easily be drafted on BricsCAD.

 ### 15. One of the best all-round CAD software with advanced 2D Drafting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paras R. | Technical Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Familiar interface with intelligent commands & dedicated environments for BIM, Mechanical, & Solid modeling makes it best choice for all-round CAD applications.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Few of the commonly available tools could be more streamlined when comparing with other 2D CAD applications.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BricsCAD's intelligent AI based commands help our team speed up the drafting process. With a single application for complete 3D/2D, completing a design becomes more straightforward.

 ### 16. Best CAD Option available.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bruce F. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Bricscad is affordable and has progressed into the best option for many CAD uses. They host 100's of useful utilities by 3rd party developers on their website saving users countless hours tracking down such utilities.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

I dislike that it took so long for someone to develop such a useful CAD option.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BricsCad is evolving at a much faster rate than other CAD options and are leaps and bounds ahead of all others in terms of incorporating user suggestions. This has allowed my productivity in BricsCad to increase exponentially over the ten years I have now been using it.

 ### 17. A Great Reasonably Priced CAD Soultion (especially for Linux users)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Floyd F. | Design Checker and Solidworks Operator/Coach, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

My main reason for trying BricsCAD was the software I previously used to work from home discontinued support for Linux. I was pleasantly surprised to find that BricsCAD Pro is a full-featured 2d & 3d design tool that still offers perpetual licensing as well as subscription-based options. For my needs of working from home & designing items to be 3d printed it's superior to my previous CAD software which was 2d only. Of course, BricsCAD is much more expensive than Draftsight but still far less than Autocad.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Not so much a dislike as a feature wish, I'd love to have easily selected native support for Libre Office products to handle OLE objects such as bills of materials in spreadsheet form.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

If you are a current user of Autocad or a similar product using .dwg files you'll be able to jump right in and work with BricsCAD easily for 2d drafting & design. In a Windows environment with Office installed it handles all OLE files with ease. The Communicator add-in allows you to import and export a huge variety of different cad formats for viewing and editing. The pricing is reasonable and the time I had to use the customer support system was great. Well worth the money.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Other than the OLE object compatibility issue due to not having MS Office on my computer, I have no complaints. I may be upgrading soon to include the mechanical design package for the more powerful 3d modeling engine. My job at work is a detail & drawing checker and sometimes I have to take work home. My employer uses Autodesk and Solidworks software. BricsCAD has full .dwg file compatibility so that I can open, mark up & correct drawings at home. Using the BricsCAD Communicator add-in also allows me to import Solidworks files and work with them too.
In addition, I do a fair amount of 3d printing at home and find this software to be very useful for that. If you are planning to do a lot of serious 3D modeling I would recommend upgrading to the mechanical design package. Although I have personally purchased this software for my use, I would have no problem recommending it to any organization that needs a full-featured CAD design suite at a good price.

 ### 18. Great AutoCAD substitute

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan T. | Civil Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

The program functions exactly like AutoCAD, but the layout of many of the settings dialogs is much more logical (organized outline format in Brics vs random "stream of consciousness" in AutoCAD). BricsCAD also seems to be more stable (far fewer crashes) than AutoCAD. In my experience, the drawings have been entirely compatible when going back and forth between AutoCAD and BricsCAD. Best of all, a perpetual license is about a quarter the cost of a yearly subscription to AutoCAD.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

The only real problem I had was with the program crashing when I tried to open a block when editing a drawing through a viewport; this has since been fixed. The only frustration I have now is having to go back to AutoCAD to design land development projects, and that's only a problem with BricsCAD being too user-friendly.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use BricsCAD daily, for all of my structural engineering work. I've found the dialogs more logical than AutoCAD, and there was virtually no downtime switching over, aside from setting up a bunch of frequently-used command aliases.

 ### 19. BricsCAD may be the cost effective alternative to that other one we've spent so long hoping for

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** charlie b. | director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

I can use all the text commands I've been using for the last 25 years
I can afford to upgrade to full BIM, previously nowhere near affordable
It looks like there's much greater appetite for further development, not just UI tinkering
It handles point clouds better

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Only minor, it's not fully there on the Mac OS - yet:
Dragging grips is buggy, and there's no mouse-over menu on them.
You can't print, you have to print to pdf then print, so the drawing also loses the print settings if you do go back to other software without this limitation.
You can't stack things like the layer and properties pane so waste screen space
Don't try and enlarge the cross-hair

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

trying to save the world with low energy retrofit - using scans and hoping to branch into BIM to standardise measures. Modelling in 3d and 2d. trying to get as much drawn as quickly as possible as too few want to pay designers

 ### 20. Bricscad review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher L. | Senior Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

It works well as an inexpensive AutoCAD substitue. I like the fact that AutoLisp works with it, so most of my custom tools work. I like to write my own algorithms for various tasks, so the programming interface is nice. I would like to try Python in Bricscad, being that its a better language than Lisp.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

It crashes a lot on Mac, way more than AutoCAD. But the most annoying and debilitating bug is the one where the cursor flickers and moves when picking grips, in a way that mimics some kind of neurological-driven physical shaking condition. Imagine that whenever you go to grab something with your fingers, your hand begins to shake uncontrollably. That's what picking grips with Bricscad on a Mac is like.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I make most of my 2D drawing tasks with the product. I also write programs to generate CNC Gcode from my 2D drawings.

For graphic art, I prefer using its AutoCAD-like interface to create designs.

 ### 21. Excellent CAD software.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charles R. | Attending On-Line Trade School, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

I like a lot of features of Brics CAD. Some of the most notable features are, works well in Windows and dosn't freeze up. Similiarity to ACAD helps. The cost. Imports and exports well. Works in DWG format. Highly Configurable. ETC !

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

There are a few things that could use some changes. The snapshot function produces a specialized file format. The "Start" screen is not easily configurable. Mostly minor complaints.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

BricsCAD is not the perfect solution, no software is. At least with BricsCAD and a little effort, it is possible to achieve your CAD goals. If you are coming from ACAD and expect the software to do all the work, go back to ACAD. If you don't mind a few different Icons and Functions then check it out!

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Because I can afford and thus own the license to BricsCAD I have a clear license to what I create. No need to worry about whether my work will be accepted. As a result, I can pursue a career in CAD.

 ### 22. My BricsCAD Review April 25, 2022

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andreas P. | draftsman, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Two things actually: First, I can use my existing DWG-files from many years ago with no hassle. Second I can do Mechanical and BIM with the same CAD software.
The interface is familiar (although I haven't worked with AutoCAD for two years now) and I can use the command line for the most frequently used functions, the Quad (I am still discovering what else I can do with the Quad) or the ribbon, depending on the situation.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

It is nothing I dislike, but it would be nice if BricsCAD would run as smoothly on Linux as it does on Windows. However, I am aware the bottleneck is the Linux graphic driver and there is probably little Bricsys can do about this.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I started with BricsCAD my workflow was 95% doing product documentation (workshop drawings) and detailing in 2D and 5% 3D modeling.
Since 3D modeling in BricsCAD is much easier and faster than it was in AutoCAD I do a lot more problem solving in 3D.
I still believe that for designing simple steel structures 2D is sufficient and probably the faster and more efficient way to workshop drawings.
On the other hand, with 3D parametric design for standard structures, it can make sense to work in 3D even for simple structures as soon as more than one elevation (respectively view) is needed.

 ### 23. The go-to for any sensible person looking for CAD software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter M. | Owner/Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

BricsCAD is cost-effective. It has all the functionality you want. It is easy to customise. All settings and options are available in a single location. The forums are full of helpful people and feature requests and bug reporting is a priority for the developers

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

There's nothing that isn't intrinsic to all CAD to dislike. If I had to pick something, it is the autosave making my machine stutter. But that is still the lesser of 2 evils.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

If you need professional CAD software, you need BricsCAD

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BricsCAD allows me to carry out my work as a Building Services Engineer with full customisation of layers, blocks, templates, lisp routines etc. All at a cost that makes my business viable and with the performance that justifies the purchase.

 ### 24. Full featured CAD system with Lifetime License

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen B. | Computer Aided Design Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

BricsCAD has all the commands and workflows I'm used to from AutoCAD. Several improvements are welcomed as well including the quad menu, the menu docking options, and the drawing browser.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Some features lack options. The purge function is lacking a graphical ui. It is tricky to etransmit multiple dwgs. I would like to see more customization with ribbon sizing and layout as well.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

If you're used to AutoCAD and commands, this software will only take a few hours to get used to.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The big thing that BricsCAD has helped me with is giving me a full replacement software for AutoCAD at a fraction of the cost with more features in some instances. With its lifetime licenses, it makes $1400/year bill only $1100 lifetime.

 ### 25. Bricscad is superb!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan T. | D, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

It has all the features I used to use in AutoCAD but at a fraction of the cost. I used to be sceptical and think it wouldn't be as good, but it's every bit as good and in some respects better, even the user interface is near identical.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

It has a regular glitch for menu loading and I have to do this manually each time it stops working correctly. This is a very minor gripe though and doesn't detract from it being a great piece of CAD software.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Do not consider it to be a less functional CAD system just because of the low price.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to design new highway layouts and to create temporary traffic management drawings. It is helping me to be much more productive than before I had Bricscad.

 ### 26. Good 3D software with a great customer service

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniele V. | IT, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

The software is very easy to understand if you know the basics of Autocad and for any trouble of question the customer service is very fast and responsive. The software is not particularly heavy for the PC.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Even with a good customer service, some issues are, in the end, set as "will be solved with future updates", and there is no feedback on it if it happens. Would be nice to know it!

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Like Autocad, less expensive, with good customer support and not as heavy as the original one.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are designing Industrial Panels and electrical components inside of it. Thanks to the "floating" license we can work on it from different computers in different moments.

 ### 27. Bricscad Mechanical user

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Sheetmetal functions make it very simple to do similar things I used to do as a tradesperson.
CAD 2D & 3D functions are similar or sometimes even better than previous programs used.
BricsCAD pricing is the best I know of by far especially If you would only want to pay one time.
Visually is easy to know what you're looking at
Updates that actually bring new functions that are very usefull

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Sometimes sheet metal will develop errors which can be very tricky to resolve or avoid (would be good if when something is sheet metal it is permanently able to be unfolded so the error isn't able to be made rather than find it later and have to manually fix it when the repair doesn't work)
The lack of Dynamic blocks used previously is slightly annoying but in saying that I have less use for them now due to other software. They could still be useful, or if parametric could do some things I used to do.
Random crashes. while they have gotten a lot better. You still need to be very vigilant with saving even smaller jobs. I have lost a bit of time (In saying that I haven't dealt with support available to my fault.)
There is always an odd thing that I know should work but doesn't eg I have done a smart split on 2 corners but they don't work on the other 2.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Would recommend it to anyone for its ease of use, quality and price

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

While most of our work (ducting) is done with a specialized program we have found BricsCAD to be excellent for doing more complicated jobs than can't be done in our other software.

 ### 28. CAD program that works, but slower

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom S. | Manager PMO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Does what you expect it to, works with all the CAD filetypes and can import GPS files (just like competitors). Integrates with a number of helpful plugins, that we use often. Pricing is a lot better than competitors though.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

It is slower than competing softwares (AutoCAD) for example, and printing can be irritating sometimes. Also, shortcuts and commands are not always straightforward.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Affordable but slower than competing products, and a (much) more difficult admin portal.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use BricsCAD to design our layouts, which it does accurately. We stepped over from AutoCAD, as BricsCAD is a lot cheaper.

 ### 29. BricsCAD - An all inclusive solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** João Paulo C. | Real Estate Appraiser (Madeira), Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

BricsCAD is a very user-friendly program, that offers more speed on day-to-day tasks with CAD software, a better user interface for plotting, system and layout management, and a good user experience for 2D and 3D.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

BrisCAD doesn't support the creation of Dynamic Blocks.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

It's a much more cost-effective software, that offers a more integrated, stable, and cheaper solution.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been using BricsCAD for architecture, and the greatest benefit is that it allows users to better manage layouts and content thru a simpler interface, and more speed reading large PDF's like the ones for Town Planning Regulation.

 ### 30. Excellent alternative to Autocad

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jon B. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Pretty much a seamless alternative to Autocad products. We are using the 2D Drafting and Mechanical Design packages, with rendering add-ons. Unlike some other alternatives, we have tried, BricsCAD is a stable system with excellent technical support. Our local reseller also offered an extended trial period when the original proved too short.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Nothing to dislike, some minor differences between BricsCAD and Autocad, but soon get used to that

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Try the free trial and use a local agent for support

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use 2D for general production drawings, Mechanical for 3D design and product literature drawings

 ### 31. BricscadV20 Mechanical is indeed a remarkable improvement over previous 7 versions.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

The automatic Exploded views for parts assembly is really helpful.
A Throughout(system-wide) part list column on side in v20 is big plus too.It helps identify and easily change the large list of parts
Now,selected part is in blue highlights to identify that particular part which all collectively saves a lot time.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Advanced Machine learning tools behind BIM though it can be helpful in Mechanical.
V20 has evolved fruitfully for Mechanical designer like myself but it is a bit unstable compared to v19.
Manual BOM labeling glitches sometimes.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Bricscad is good light, affordable, fast substitute to Autocad for universal dwg.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The complex part assembly and kinematics study of parts.
Parametric parts designing for easy modification .
BOM creation for exploded layouts and production.

 ### 32. Brickscad, speed and reliability

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pedro R. | Owner/Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Compatibility with the most common formats, and lightness in use even with a large amount of data, whether vectors, rasters, or point clouds. The fact that it can be installed in multiple languages, and allows the use of the same license on both desktop and laptop. Development of good third-party applications that work reliably on this platform.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Interface not very visual, especially in the settings section, and footer bar.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Some initial difficulty in adapting to the configuration interface, but it is worth it since it is software with a very affordable price, good robustness and reliability using various types of data, and with many tools developed by third parties.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Use of point cloud and GIS maps in the development of civil projects.

**Official Response from Jessica Lyford:**

> Thank you Pedro for the review! We love hearing from our customers around the world who are getting so much value from BricsCAD. I shared your feedback with our team as well to help us make BricsCAD even better. You might be interested in the sessions on Civil projects that we have planned for our upcoming BricsCAD Digital Summit. You can register here for the free virtual event and we will soon share the agenda. We hope to see you there! Thanks again, Jess.

 ### 33. Seamless migration from Auto***

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roberto M. | Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

I was forced to finally upgrade my Windows OS to 10, rendering my suite of legacy software obsolete. The interface is almost identical, and I previously relied on macros which are identical with Brics.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

It took me a little while to navigate and figure out the Options menu, but once those settings were mastered, the look and feel of the program and its stability inspired confidence.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

Try it for yourself

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using BricsCAD to draft architectural in 2d primarily. My focus is on part-time schematic design production and redlining. Makes communication with other consultants a snap.

 ### 34. Economical and fully functional CAD software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca D. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Bricscad has the same tools as AutoCAD so there is no down time learning new software

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

There are many dimensional variables to set in a new drawing which are complex and time consuming unless you just copy a previous drawing and delete the content so the variables are already set up

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

If you are a previous user of AutoCAD you will find BricsCAD a breeze to use.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use BricsCAD almost every day in my business to produce landscape design drawings. I couldn't operate my business without CAD software and BricsCAD ensures I am highly productive.

 ### 35. Perpetual license for a CAD that does everything and more

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ZhiRui F. | Operations Development Executive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

BricsCAD gives you the option to either purchase an annual license with support to stay up-to-date on releases, or buy a perpetual license for software that will last five to ten years as the functions are bleeding edge anyway.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Its versions can get a bit convoluted, especially Lite versus Pro, or BIM versus Mechanical. It seems more logical to split the software into 2D and 3D versions, given industry needs and trends.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With the ability to ingest various file types, from dwg to dxf to geotiff to las to pdf, we are able to combine information from different parties into a common viewport and obtain ground truth, giving us more efficacy in project design, execution, documentation, and management.

 ### 36. Excellent value CAD software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

The ability to bring in pointcloud data as e57 or las rather than converting to Recap saves lots of processing time. I mainly use for creating building elevations and floorplans from pointcloud data. It has almost all of the functionality of AutoCAD and is a fraction of the price.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

I have yet to find anything major missing from BricsCAD compared to other CAD packages. Sometimes when scrolling in and out there is a bit of delay in regenerating the drawing, but that is a minor complaint.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have solved the problem of having to pay approx £6.5k per year for Autodesk licenses for desktops, as well as additional LT licenses for laptops. Bricscad allows us to purchase a license outright and use the same license on laptop and desktop.

 ### 37. Good cost effective alternative to AutoCAD, with purchase option rather than subscription

QUAD is the best thing I like about Bricscad among many others, it makes it very mouse-friendly and does not need to remember commands and is good for people like me who like minimal usage of keystrokes.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Certain good ACAD features still missing
no multi-thread support yet

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lightweight, less expensive. There are some good features to make it more productive. Mouse friendly, no need to remember cad commands for a novice

much better cost-benefit ratio than AutoCAD. works well with Transoft AutoTurn Pro, avoiding the need for AutoCAD licence. Easy to use, intuitive interface when coming from AutoCad.

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

Some of the menus can be a bit tricky to navigate. Have not yet managed to get the LISP routines to work, or the Civils interface.

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using BricsCAD for drawing work, mostly for Civils work and for swept path analysis with Transoft AutoTurn Pro.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Octave BricsCAD?**

Everything on 1 program. Cost-effective through a purchase license

**What do you dislike about Octave BricsCAD?**

The program is being developed at a rapid pace and every change is not always an improvement. Sometimes the solutions are very good and sometimes a little less.

**Recommendations to others considering Octave BricsCAD:**

There is no reason not to switch to Bricscad if you are drawing with another program now

**What problems is Octave BricsCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

by drawing in 3D sometimes problems arise that cannot be seen in 2D and drawing in 2D is therefore much more time-consuming because views have to be constructed.

 ### 42. Best alternative for AutoCAD on all operating systems
