Usually these are complicated and piecemeal, NationBuilder gets you up in running often in hours instead of days or weeks. Customer support is excellent and responsive. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** Sometimes searches and batch updates are clunky. Social media sharing has lagged behind current trends. Podcasting and RSS would be helpful. NationBuilder has made that possible. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** There is a bit of a learning curve on how to use the platform. However, each time I use it (about once a week in my role) I do learn something new about how the algorithms appear to work. It does take some time. I have not found a lot of good tutorials either within NB or outside of it. **What problems is NationBuilder solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are now able to manage our own data without getting the parent organization tech support/permission people to have to give us permission to access our data in a manner works for us - not as they prescribe. We now have control over our own membership dues/donations information and a much better means of getting notices, newsletters, etc. out to the membership. ### 3. We use Nationbuilder almost daily and use it for everything from our database management to managing our website, processing donations, creating registration pages for our events, and creating actions for our supporters to take. Additionally, the customer service at Nationbuilder is fantastic! Since we are Enterprise customers we have a dedicated rep (shout out to Michael O'Neil) that we meet with regularly who provides us with invaluable advice on how to better utilize the tools in Nationbuilder to reach our goals. The support team is also very responsive anytime we have a question, or an issue arises (which is rare). Some of the features that we utilize the most at Nationbuilder are the email creation (the new drag and drop feature makes creating an email incredibly easy while still keeping things looking professional), action pages which helps us to make it easy for our supporters to take an action, and tags/filters so that we can send more targeted communications based on our supporters interests. We also really enjoy the fact that Nationbuilder integrates with so many other useful web applications, making it very easy to automatically bring in data from other apps that we use. All in all, it's safe to say that Nationbuilder is the best CRM that our organization have ever used, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that it does much, much more than simply managing our contacts. Nationbuilder has become an irreplaceable member of our team. We have enthusiastically referred other orgs and campaigns to Nationbuilder to help manage their needs and will continue to do so. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** One feature that I wish NationBuilder would include is an add to calendar option for event pages so that registered guests of our event can easily add the event to their calendars as they register. That said, it has been super easy to just drop in add to calendar buttons from another platform, so there is an easy enough work around. Would be great to have it all in one place though. **What problems is NationBuilder solving and how is that benefiting you?** Nationbuilder offered us the opportunity to use one platform for many things, such as eblasts, donation processing, action pages, and event pages, instead of using multiple platforms as we had in the past. Having everything in one place made things much easier for us, since we can now pull up a supporter record and see every action that the supporter has taken all in one place. This has helped us to better understand the levels of engagement of our supporters on a more individual level. ### 4. My personal favorite is the email builder with intuitive drag and drop features. It is also a fully featured CRM with powerful contact management, analytics, and filtering tools. This is a product I use every day, and it has consistently proven to be an invaluable asset. If you choose NationBuilder, you will be matched with an attentive and knowledgeable account manager ready to assist whenever any issues arise, or just to check in and see how things are going. If I had to mention something, it would be that while NationBuilder excels at providing a broad range of features, there might be more specialized tools for individual functions. It may not be the best option for each separate service it offers, but it's the only option that offers them all in a well, currated platform. It's database management is top notch, and its ability to manage volunteers in a smart and easy to use way is great. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** NationBuilder's website platform is tired. It's not up to snuff with modern standards. It does everything required of a political or nonprofit website, but it's hard to use and it's not particularly attractive. **What problems is NationBuilder solving and how is that benefiting you?** NationBuilder gives us all of our digital tools in one spot. I've worked with them in two different organizations, both outside the typical Democratic or Republican political machines and they're the best option for trying to rival the tech stack of those giants at a reasonable price. ### 9. One of the best parts of NationBuilder is that you can create a new account and be up and running with a database, email tool, payment system and website in the same day. A particularily great feature is the integrated payments system that just works and let's you take one time payments, event ticket purchases and recurring payments without needing more than 15 minutes of setup time. The payments are then tracked automatically in the database and can be configured to set yearly limits, go towards membership purchases as well as track payments that come through emails sent via NationBuilder. This makes it easy to set our clients up with a complete tracking funnel for fundriasing with minimal work needed on the tech implementation and let's them get to work quickly. Similarily, the email tool is integrated with the database and automatically tracks user interactions with each email that is sent out - removing the need to configure additional tracking and analytics. When I've needed support, they have been quick to respond and can usually address the problem in the first round of emails. Overall, I've found that NationBuilder is a great solution for advocacy and campaigns that need to quickly scale up their digital infrastruture shile not recreating the wheel. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** A few of the downsides to NationBuilder that are worth considering before moving your digital infrastructure onto it are: Websites on NationBuilder provide a number of page tempalte types to choose from, which works well for forms but is usually limited to one content section per page. This can make it difficult to display content in interesting ways or have a page not just look like a blog post without needing to edit the html directly. A few more options for content placement on pages would be very welcome. The current endpoints provided on the API do not fully cover the different types of data or common user actions that you might want to update from an external source. A few exampels of this are page tagging, patching individual fields to contact records and activity feed data. The can make creating custom solutions on top of NationBuilder a bit more challenging. Similarily, webhooks are not currently supported. I only find these missing features limiting with larger or more complex clients, whereas smaller organizations usually do not run into these issues, especially the API concerns. **What problems is NationBuilder solving and how is that benefiting you?** NationBuilder helps our clients solve the problems associated with setting up digital infrastructure that can quickly scale with them and provide core advocacy and campaigning tools. The main features of NationBuilder related to fundraising, contact management and web presence are particularily useful for the campaigns and organizations that we work with. ### 10. There is often a very basic details given about the problem and that does not answer my question. There is no human to talk to to clearify issues. It is very challenging to learn how to use the software. I wish there was more training. There are so many features to Nationbuilder that I don't know how to use or access. With an easy user interface, even non-technical staff can work it. With a robust API and lots of integrations available, you can quickly integrate your Nation into event the most complex environments. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** As database size grows it can get expensive, especially for the enterprise and network features. Lack of AI integration is also a minor shortcoing compared to some other platforms. **What problems is NationBuilder solving and how is that benefiting you?** We often have campaigns that need to spin up and get working quickly. Nationbuilder allows us to have everything we need and get up to speed lightning fast. There are a variety of stock themes available for a quick start, but you can also customize everything to your heart's content. We can add on capability and capacity as we need it so growth is not inhibited. What is more it can be enhanced by a huge array of integrations, especially data capture plugins. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** As with any tool NationBuilder needs to be learnt, it does mean some don't use it to its fulled potential which is a massive missed opportunites. They also provide you with a Coach to help you navigate your way and make the best use of the tools available to establish and grow your movement base. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** There are many features and elements on Nationbuilder that can be helpful for us as users. But it does take some time to learn how to use all the features. This is why it works best if you have someone within your organisation to work with a Nationbuilder coach. Some of those features can be clunky. Also, when you have big data in Nationbuilder, it can take a while for things to load up. **What problems is NationBuilder solving and how is that benefiting you?** Building our movement base from scratch and scaling it up in a relatively short span of time. Without Nationbuilder, we would not have been able to host petitions, acquire 70k supporters and recruit almost 4k volunteers within 2 years of starting our NGO. These volunteers were the backbone of our organising and mobilising work so it was important that we were able to scale things up rapidly. We also needed these supporters and volunteers to give us the influence that we need when advocating for change with elected representatives. ### 18. The software works as expected, and allows me to manipulate my data exactly how I want to - and the mapping feature is a nice addition that I wish I used more. I use it almost every day to track my contacts, manage donations, and generally keep me and my organization on track. And the few times I have run into a problem, the customer support team has always solved it to my complete satisfaction - and the account teams go above and beyond for their clients, too. **What do you dislike about NationBuilder?** I've had a few potential clients mention they wish it had a call-time feature built in. No challenge we faced too big to manage. All on increadibly tight deadlines of course. All the team are excited by the knowedge it provides to really get to know our supporters, their motivations and interests.
