## About Mux
Mux is video infrastructure that makes it easy for development teams to build video into their products — and do so quickly, reliably, and at global scale. More and more businesses need to have video in their products to stay competitive, and consumers expect those video experiences to be seamless and reliable. But video is complex to build and even harder to scale and maintain. By handling the complexity and tedium of video and analytics infrastructure, Mux lets teams get back to what’s most important: focusing on the things that make their business special. With Mux, developers can build the video experiences their audiences want. Industry leaders like Vimeo, HubSpot, Paramount, PBS, and Substack trust Mux to help them power reliable video experiences that their audiences love, while saving them time and money.

## Mux Reviews
  ### 1. Powerful API-First Video Platform with Solid Streaming and Analytics

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bhavesh J. | Mobile Tech Lead, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Mux?**

I come from a programming background, and I really appreciate Mux’s API support. It lets us create video assets through the API, and overall I like the live-stream creation experience they provide.

From a UI/UX perspective, it’s solid. Since Mux is very API-oriented, it doesn’t put as much emphasis on the UI, but you can still create video assets and set up live streams through the Mux portal. It also surfaces metrics. They provide a player and player wrappers for different mobile app platforms as well, which helps with analytics and with understanding video playback on client devices.

On the content delivery side, they serve video in an adaptive streaming format, and it works well without issues. I do use it in production. For live streaming, though, there’s a bit more delay than with other services. I’m seeing around 30 seconds of delay, and I’ve used other services with lower latency.

Pricing feels okay and reasonable for companies that want a stable solution and don’t want to maintain a CDN delivery network themselves. That said, if you go with open-source or other cheaper options, you can reduce costs. You can also reach out to them for an enterprise deal.

Support is the main area where I’d like to see improvement. It often takes more than 24 hours for them to respond to me. I might be in a different time zone, which could be part of it, but I still expect faster responses to support tickets. On weekends, it can take around 48 to 72 hours to get a reply.

Also they support auto genaration of subtitle as well. I am not sure those thing they implemented using ai or not. But they market it as ai feature.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

They initially supported multiple quality options for static rendition, like 320p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p. Later, they revised it to only three options: high, medium, and low.

On one project, I faced issues while streaming. Since the live streaming feature was on the app side, the live stream kept disconnecting multiple times on moderate network speeds, and I even faced the same issue on 5G as well.

Pricing-wise, it feels a bit heavy for a startup.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mux provides API-based support for a wide range of video platform services, such as creating video assets, uploading video assets, and handling subtitles, all through the API. It also supports generating live stream URLs and enabling live streaming via the API, which I found pretty easy to work with. On top of that, they provide their own player library that automatically records video analytics to the Mux dashboard, which saves a lot of time during integration.

  ### 2. Video management handled out-of-the-box

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Omar B. | Co-founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Solid APIs and feeling worry-free whenever it comes to streaming videos, especially with the direct Sanity integration.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

We initially weren't satisfied with Mux<>Sanity plugin, but their team was reactive and decided to improve it to make content creation smoother.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rendering videos with the right size and integratin with the CMS.

  ### 3. Product fails at the most critical times

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Offers some innovative products that are not found with other platforms.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

- Annual Contracts are prepaid and if you don't use your MONTHLY quota, you lose all that you have paid for. Contract is annual, quota is monthly.
- Support is very poor and requires personal connections with the engineers in order to save the video when going offline.
- Billing center is poorly written and sometimes deletes products we have without any warning.
- Product is in beta forever and never reaches production stage.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using video streaming as the output of our product, in order to add RTMP support for our clients on the platform.

  ### 4. Fast, reliable and easy to implement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tim H. | Tech lead, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

We've been blown away by the strength of their API and documentation. Everything is straightforward and easy to find, and their SDKs have exceeded our expectations. We particularly love the provided player and the direct upload feature, in combination with reliable webhooks this has been a game-changer for our workflow. In short, we highly recommend Mux as the go-to platform for all your video needs.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

While the UI may have some limitations, we've found it to be perfectly adequate for our needs. And although reporting on usage (in the API) could be improved, we still find it to be a great tool for our business.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mux is our main video platform. We use it to process our customers video and audio assets.

  ### 5. Used Mux Video and Mux Data on a recent mobile app project

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Very easy to integrate Mux Data, and the dashboard had helpful insights. I can also see how Mux Video can effectively handle all things video. You don't need to be a video expert to gain the most out of it.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

From a developer's perspective, I think the docs need more detail in various use cases, particularly with React Native. Also, more explanation around direct file upload would be helpful. Comparing this to AWS's docs on the same subject, they clarify it in great detail.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem of uploading a video and handling all of the technical sides of video + audio. Using Mux I no longer need to worry about this and instead focus more time on building a great app.

  ### 6. Truly developer focused platform with only the features you want

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ilya G. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Absolutely excellent platform. UI is clean and only has what you need, documentation is great and very simple. It seemingly has every feature one could want to help them look competent in delivering video content. A broad number of integrations and simple instructions let you upload and pull videos and gain access to thumbnails and previews. Also, pay-as-you-go with no ceiling on monthly bandwidth is perfect for a startup that doesn't want to fork out an "Enterprise (call us for details)" or be screwed if successful

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

Haven't found anything yet. The flexibility and clarity of the service are pretty outstanding and the free version was pretty excellent to get started. So nothing.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Serving proprietary wellness content for older adults including travel, exercise and meditation videos.

  ### 7. The best video platform I've used, feels tailored for developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Itay B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

After working with several other video platforms, moving to Mux felt great. Mux provided the best documentation, ease of implementation, value for money, and performance in delivery and rendering.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

Haven't found anything that I dislike about mux.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Uploading and rendering ~1K new videos daily, storing 300K videos, and serving content to ~5000 users daily. Mux made writing the end-to-end solution simple and more cost-effective than any I've checked.

  ### 8. Real user insight from your real-time audience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tony L. | Solution Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Vast amounts of data, both real-time and historical, to help understand the experiences of your users. The ability to deep dive into an individual view session and to see where problems with your video feed might be happening.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

An engagement chart would be good to have. This provides and easy way to see the parts of the video being replayed and the parts being skipped. If we build it ourselves we need to host a lot of data

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provide analytics for or video feed and for our users. Since we host and deliver video feeds to our customer's users, they demand analytics.

  ### 9. The easiest platform for managing video experiences

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nihar P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Abstracts all of the complexity of video streaming so that developers can focus on user experience.

Reporting is very intuitive and allows for segmentation by custom fields.

Took us less than a day to get a proof of concept up and running.

Love that storage is by minute and not by input file size.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

Seeing how your current Mux usage is affecting your bill is not the most intuitive.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storing video assets, streaming those assets to end-user mobile devices, tracking video watch time and engagement, generating static and animated thumbnails.

  ### 10. Mux lets me focus on what matters.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ray T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

The API is extordinarily productive. We know video, and it's always amazing how simple Mux makes things.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

I wish some of Mux's features were opt-in. For some use cases, like user-generated content, you don't need all Mux has to offer.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mux can take almost any video and make it available to the web / mobile platform with a simple API.

  ### 11. Develope-friendly video streaming stack for VOD, Live and interactive scenarios.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Reggie Y. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

1. A clean and intuitive UI with developer-friendly APIs and Documents.
2. Full video streaming stack you can find in Mux.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

Mux CDN delivery is backed by Cloudflare and Fastly. This combination performs well in most of the world, but it can be further improved in some regions in Asia. It will be great if Mux allows some regional-specific CDN.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. Provide full stack in video streaming as a one-stop shop. You don't need to source solutions like CDN, video player, transcoding and analytics etc.
2. Mux offers its product and solution in developer-friendly approach. You can find rich API, use case and documents support easily.

  ### 12. Intuitive and working like a charm

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Publishing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Especially Mux Data is giving us some very intuitive insights. Furthermore, setting up livestream endpoints through Mux Video works like a charm.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

Mux Data doesn't provide a lot of insights in the performance of prerolls, only on video playback itself.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're getting immediate insights in the quality of our streaming through Mux Data. With Mux Video we're providing several brands within our company with livestream endpoints.

  ### 13. Seemless video streaming and content management. API first development is great advantage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashik C. | Senior Application Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Content management, streaming and video tracking

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

It takes little time to approve videos , its great to have pre-roll, middle-roll and post-roll advertisement features.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It removes all the pain of managing large digital assets .

  ### 14. Mux is a very engineer friendly API to stream video and get detailed analytics.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harris G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Mux is an easy to use service. It also provides good analytics regarding videos

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

could be more examples in docs on how to implement less common features, better billing analysis and alerts for certain criteria don't seem easily available

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to stream video to our clients.

  ### 15. Modern Video Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Even W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Mux is everything you could want in a dev-centric, modern platform for video distribution: instant transcode to the right format for the user, analytics & live streaming. You can even order up a cute little GIF for your previews.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

If you need professional control over your video distribution there is little to dislike about Mux.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Video is hard - you really don't want to do it yourself. We use Mux to add video capabilties to our content platform Sanity.io.

  ### 16. Great team, great product!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Mux?**

The livestream feature is just great! Also loving the video analytics.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

I'm not sure what to write here as I do not have any dislike.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are helping us building a better headless CMS.

  ### 17. Good for video and live API but don't rely on their multicast / simulcast feature

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antoine L. | Chief Executive Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Mux?**

We like :
• the API for live streaming and video management
• the documentation
• articles and examples in their blog

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

We dislike the implementation of some features that are strongly lacking some thought in the design process and stability.
For example, the simulcast / multicast (the ability to stream to external RTMP) does not work properly, is unable to change the destinations while streaming and lacks of detailed error messages...). We also had the experience that it does not work at all in some cases (however all other services would accept the stream). I would advise sticking to other services (such as Restream) if you want to provide the ability to simulcast to some of your users. Also, the product development team, unfortunately, seems pretty hermetic to feedback about this feature.

**Recommendations to others considering Mux:**

Choose them for video and live streaming, not for additional features or services they provide.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Live streaming and video management at scale.

  ### 18. video analytics at its best with lively features for any analytics teams.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arjun B. | Test Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Mux?**

Mux makes building live streaming into your web or native apps simple and secure. The way mux churns the data to the users is amazing. All the details related to any particular video will be available like the overall experience score of the video, be it startup time, buffering time, rebuffers, and many others like these. Other than that the different video formats it supports. The mux SDK has all the required parameters any analytics team needs. Recently they started supporting new features like closed captioning tracking, storyboards, new APIs to track videos better, and many more.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

The UI can be improved whereas they can introduce charts and other ways of data presentation. Reports can be inclusive.

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Video analytics-related problems and all the streaming-related analytics data you can get from mux.

  ### 19. Impeccable API for live videos - with a price tag to match

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2021

**What do you like best about Mux?**

We were able to migrate from another third-party live video hosting service to Mux in approximately 1 week. The API and documentation provided are very detailed and made the transition and use of Mux in our application very simple for developers and product managers. The video quality, latency, and overall streaming and viewing experience is very strong.

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

The price point for encoding is quite significant (whereas price is quite fair for storage and viewers of live streams). Having different pricing tiers for encoding at different video qualities would be a nice addition (since most of our users live stream in SD).

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are implementing live video as part of a web-based application that we then provide to our customers.

  ### 20. Mux for business

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Mux?**

The amount of the formats supported by the application

**What do you dislike about Mux?**

The design is not as intuitive as I have expecyed

**What problems is Mux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the streaming problem. It's quite stable.
