I like the screening, performance reporting, presentation studio, and AI analytics lab features most. I can do everything with these features—starting from building a screen, selecting specific funds or stocks, adding them to a performance report, and doing an analysis. If I want to visualize these, I am going to Presentation Studio. That's how all of these features are solving all of our problems. They can improve the UI and make it run on Macbooks. I don't like the web/browser version as it's too slow. A more modern and light version, and also faster in processing would be better. The Morningstar platform helps me evaluate clients current portfolios so I can provide feedback as to where the new portfolio will help them achieve their financial goals. Love how the portfolio provides the x-ray update on the portfolio and it gives credibility to the client I am speaking with. It is easy to use and can usually find information within minutes. I like how I can run reports and performance reports really easily, and a lot of times it'll come up in conversation when an advisor or client wants something to look at quickly. It's nice that I can just pull it up and also compare our model portfolios on how they are constructed today versus how they were constructed in the past. Morningstar Direct makes it quick and easy to find out underlying details, which is great for when we have new clients with a bunch of holdings. What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct? A lot of the times, there's errors going on. Even though I use it for performance reporting a lot. The alternatives, whether it's product equity, part of real estate, infrastructure, or private credit are really delayed to get reported on. So it's usually not accurate even if it's saying it is. And there's just often glitches. So it crashes a lot. I'll be running a report or something, and it'll completely crash out or the screen will go blank. I like the speed of calculations and the comprehensiveness of the data in Morningstar Direct. It's great that there are a large number of fields available, making it easy to create and export reports. I also appreciate the ability to schedule reports. I can't use the same fund/ETF in multiple groups in performance reports. I also can't schedule reports outside of performance reporting. The presentation studio is clunky and the design is confusing, making the data points difficult to figure out. Some tabs could use a cleaner interface, and I wish there was autocomplete for field searches. It would be great to have more data points available in the Excel plug-in. I really like the gigantic amount of back data available with Morningstar Direct, which is the biggest advantage for me. The software itself is quite slow and clunky. The online version does not solve for this. Because in browser is not as good as an application. There is no Mac version of the app, which is a huge issue. Because Macs have better computational power and the client service team is largely undertrained. The biggest problem and this continues to be a problem, is that the customer service team is largely unaware of what capabilities already exist on the platform. The also lack of consistent bond data makes it a lot of harder to utilize the tool for our entire suite of holdings. Direct is solving the problem of organizing and having all of the performance data in one place for the client presentations and also allowing us to search for alternative Funds and to do research on our current allocations.
