Again it only considers Quarterly AUM data and the Monthly figures are simply not available. The earlier component used to work on individual scheme. Direct asks you to log in constantly, even when you just logged in an hour or two ago. We use MD on a daily basis and it's output gets further integrated into bespoke tools. **What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?** The program's look and feel is somewhat dated and one tends to find some quirky niggles here and there, like slow load times or lack of a simple 'undo' functions within the report-builder (Presentation Studio) function. Another area that tends to come up short is the platform's level of detail on Fixed Income securities. It has all of the data you need and gets used all day every day. The depth of data available is vast, and if there ever is an issue, the customer service team are usually excellent and promptly resolving issues. **What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?** Fixed Income mutual funds are generally more difficult to analyse using this software, some data is missing or just not accurate - I believe this is more due to the nature of the feed from the funds however. **What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?** I utilise Morningstar Direct for fund research, and it covers just about all of the data requirements I have. ### 41. I think they have spread themselves too thin trying to be all things to all customers. When something does not post or work properly you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get it fixed. Logging in is very straightforward, and it is something I use almost daily. The learning curve for the product is also very low for most of the basic functions, and clients appreciate the charts we can provide. **What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?** Morningstar Direct is not perfect. There can be considerable lag at times when working through Presentation Studio. They have suggested it is a connection issue, as their version runs quickly in house, but I have found it to run slower. You are at their whim regarding features; we use a couple reports consistently, and their support has slowly been waning. The "Morningstar Page" is one of the reasons we have the program; we like the fund commentary! It feels like these might be in the process of being phased out though; funds that used to be supported are now hit or miss (even big fund companies like DFA, T. Rowe Price, and Vanguard funds). Information is also not always 100% accurate. We have talked to managers about information we've found, and they have blamed the input screens that Morningstar requires. I have aboslutely no idea if this is true, but I do know the information that we see is sometimes incorrect (SMA fees, manager tenure, etc.) **What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?** They have various reports we can create for our clients showing historic returns, and how their portfolios have stacked up through various time periods. I create customized lists of managers that we use and prospect managers to track performance and compare possibilities. **What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?** I sometimes have to log in to the app multiple times. The excel plug-in will sometimes not update data and gets hung up when retrieving data. **What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?** For ongoing due diligence, I use Direct to track performance on the funds that we use. This involves comparing trailing returns to a benchmark and peer group average. For initial due diligence when we are selecting a fund, I'll use Direct to create a universe of possible options (large growth) based on the Morningstar category.
