Not only does Morningstar help you research from a wide variety of data, but it also allows you to cuztomize reports or create new ones. I can use the program at any moment and on a timely manner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Even though I can personalize my reports, it would be really helpfull to have autocorrect or something similar to correct your spelling when needed. Also, It was very helpful to have a specific person you could contact when you had an issue or a question. Now you can call or email customer service, but you talk to a differnt person each time. For the most part I think after an overview and some training the tool is manageable to navigate through. It does provide a lot of data in a mostly consumable way. After some training, can find and navigate through the tool to consume data that is needed in user friendly ways. I like the functionalities to run batch cycles, share reports and data sets within the firm. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I do think it can be more user friendly and provide more definitions on data points that can be more easily searched. It can be difficult when searching for data to 1. determine if this is the right data point I am looking for 2. know where within Direct the data point is located. Mstar provides access to a wide range of data and calculations. The data is available in a timely manner and there is good documentation on how the calculations are performed. I also like that data can be accessed on Direct as well as via API and Excel formulas Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The fact that you need to have the app installed to get full usability. i was looking forward to the web version of Mstar and was disappointed it was never fully developed. Another downside is that the excel add-in doesn't allow for the flexibility of usage of Performance Reporting Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fundctions such a the presentation studio are are really useful way of visualising continuous data in a way that is different to staring at a spreadsheet. There is also an huge amount of data of several investment instruments, so drawing comparisons and differences between funds is extremely doable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Morningstar Direct is a powerhouse when it comes to data. It's got a ton of features and access to a crazy amount of information on all sorts of investments like mutual funds, stocks, and ETFs. The user interface is a hot mess. It's clunky, unintuitive, and feels like it's held together by duct tape and prayers. It's like they just kept slapping new features on top of the old ones without ever fixing the core issues. Trying to navigate this thing can be a real headache. Access to competitor fund data, performance, statistics etc. It can be tricky to use if you are unfamiliar with the system but once you figure out what you need to do it can help with efficiency and running regular reports.

The naming convention of data elements does not always appear logical so it can be difficult finding the data element you need if you don't know exactly what it's called on Direct. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Support can be really poor. In my case, when the named technical support individual left for maternity leave, I was left to a 'Support team' email address, with poor response times and no phone number. Inadequate for a system that costs £8k per user p.a. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
