Our primary use case was internal research/data analysis and help query data on our feed. Easy to Implement: No issues with getting going - download and up and running in minutes. Comprehensive Data: Direct was impressive in terms of the broad access to Morningstar's comprehensive database of data covering open-ended investment funds, closed-end funds and ETFs, as well as features to conduct research and reporting. In-Depth Analysis: Once you know how to use the search and screening features, the platform offers a very rich set of capabilities to conduct detailed fund due-diligence and analysis, beyond what is available from other vendors. There are also good added-value apps to analyse funds in greater depth, like the portfolio holdings tool. Alongside Lipper, this is one of the best dedicated fund data and analytic products available. Online Support: A feature we found valuable was the online data dictionary where you could query the meaning of a specific datapoints and gain access to the latest documents focused on Morningstar's methodology and calculations which helped save alot of time vs sending support queries. Trial Support: We got excellent support from the specialist during the trial. **What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?** Customer Support: Found support to be inconsistent, occasionally very responsive but sometimes slow to answer queries especially compared to other vendors. While you immediately get a response saying your ticket has been raised, it can sometimes take days to get a response to even basic data queries and longer if you have very specific queries related to data points / data quality issues . User Experience: While it offers great capabilities, Direct is not immediately intuitive for beginners / users who have not used similar fund research analytics before; there's lots of flexibility, but alot is hidden in menus. The overall experience / workflow also feels fragmented; there are dedicated tools/apps for specific activities but there is an opportunity for better integration to help maximise value. Discoverability: We found it difficult to find all the data that was available for specific funds / instruments. Some were available on the Fund Overview / Factsheet page (but not all), others data points had to be pulled into a report. Also selecting datapoints for inclusion or screening can be challenging as they have been grouped into specific folders which are not always obvious; we understand this can be challenging given there are differences in data sets between markets and fund types, but with focused effort this would really help users save significant time. **What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?** We found this valuable alongside our feed to help check / query data. ### 25. Investment universe is great, huge range of funds with research on that we make use of regularly. **What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?** The screener could be much better, probably the most awkward screener I've ever used, where you would have to run multiple screens because of how narrow the screening criteria is. Integration into other platforms leaves a lot to be desired, and really the opposite of an intutitive platform. One wrong step and you need to start again, lots of crashes and bugs, takes a long time to process / calculate compared to other systems. I think if the system were more intuitive, people would make use of more that on offer within, but thwn you have to have a training webinar (or normally multiple) to get to grips with a tool, typically means we stick to what we know in the software and rarely venture into other parts. **What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?** It solves our attribution analysis and contributes lightly to our screening efforts. Wish we could make more use of the software, but as mentioned previously, getting something new to work without outside help is time constraining. ### 33.
