What do you like best about Moodle?

I like the ability to set up an online learning environment using a CMS that is free. It's easy enough to setup in most webhosting control panels, or even manually. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

Moodle is a bit of a challenge to set up and utilize. Information on setting up various options, updating a current system, and finding "how to" do things can be complex. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Moodle:

Be sure to take advantage of the numerous youtube videos out there, to help in the set up and management of your Moodle CMS and how to add courses. There really is no assistance, as it is a free CMS. Additionally, the support community is not a lot of help in most cases, as you're forced to repeat yourself over and over again, in order to finally find someone who can answer your question. It can be very frustrating. So hit up online resources, search for help via google, and use youtube. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Using Moodle, I was able to create an online learning environment in a relatively short period of time. This enabled me to then market my online courses, which has been especially helpful during the pandemic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

It's a platform that has been in use for many years, so it has a lot of cool stuff, but I think the layout is a bit outdated. But it's not a bad layout. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Moodle?

It is a system that encompasses what is really necessary in any educational system, both in schools and private academies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

I recommend it, it adapts to everything, it can be integrated with free software tools, user control, notes, ph5p can be integrated, which makes activities more dynamic and fun for students. For me, it is the best system for distance education. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Moodle:

I recommend it, it adapts to everything, it can be integrated with many useful free software plugins, user control, notes, ph5p, which makes activities more dynamic and fun for students. For me it is the best distance education system Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Currently I do not solve any problem, at first I had a problem but because I was ignorant of issues regarding PHP versions, but with the support of the moodle community I was able to solve it very easily with just a few small adjustments Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Moodle?

I really like the customization options Moodle provides and the wealth of plug-ins from the open-source community. LDAP configuration is easy to implement for central authentication, and connections to various Virtual Meeting platforms too! Also great is the ability to provide hyperlinks directly to course page modules. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

The age and fragility of the platform require care and knowledge; beyond most beginning implementers. You really need a Full-time Back End developer to support Moodle, and a Full-time Front-end developer while building the customizations. And while course-specific reporting was great, site-wide reporting was very poor and required custom tools to be developed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Moodle:

Budget for a Full-Stack Developer to be a Full-Time Employee on the Moodle site team who is VERY good with Python and the host OS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our company needed a quick and easy-to-implement Learning Management System to provide and track learning across the organization. It had to support in-person and remote learners. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Moodle?

I like how Moodle gives one the ability to set up multiple courses within a workshop. You're given the opportunity to set up a variety of Categories and then create Workshops within each category, so the ability to create multiply workshops is endless. Addtionally, Moodle is an open and free CMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

Moodle is not always the most secure CMS. Additionally, it is a challenge to update the system to create a safer online website Workshop presence. Transferring the entire site is also a challenge, although it can be done. It would be nice to see Moodle incorporate the ability to migrate an entire website, and/or just each course, using a plugin or extension similar to the All-in-One WP Migration plugin for WordPress. Additionally, spammers are rampant, so a better and more thorough anti-spam plugin would be a benefit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Moodle:

Check with your webhost first, before installing Moodle, as they might not be up-to-date on the PHP version. Also, Moodle is moving from MySQL to Maria db, and many webhosts have not yet updated to the Maria db, so you would not have the ability to update the course and website files, until your webhost enables those services and features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Moodle does enable one to create a website that boasts a decent-looking, professional Workshop for users. Consequently, one can provide distance learning vs. in-person learning, which is a real benefit in today's business environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Moodle?

I have been using Moodle for about five years, first as a student and for the last three years as a trainer. Moodle is a great platform to test and assess user competencies of your company. Uploading courses, assessments, and enrolling them is very easy. As a complete learning management system - it gives a lot of customization options to create badges, roles, and generate user reports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

The interface can be a little orthodox. And trainers can sometimes face a challenge in navigating through the site administration options. I specifically faced this issue while trying to assign customized permissions/right to a group of users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

To reduce dependency on third-party tools, I have been exploring Moodle's inbuilt feature of creating assessments. And I realized it is one of the most useful features where one can create a decently competitive assessment on Moodle without the help of any SCORM package from other tools. What do you like best about Moodle?

Free, simple setup, community keeps the product updated as much as possible. You can program and customize the product for your specific needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

Version update process, need for maintenance of modules made by you or by third parties, infrastructure maintenance, ease of customization can create pitfalls, with clients thinking that everything is possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Moodle:

Hidden costs with team and infrastructure are not negligible. The platform is free, but maintaining a quality service, with an updated system, integrated with other legacy systems, with adequate infrastructure, is far from free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have used Moodle for many years in continuing education. Today we use it for workforce training in our company, free courses for employees. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Moodle?

Moodle is the best Learning Management System that I have had experience using. It is very user-friendly, and it has all of the capabilities that all of the other LMSs have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

I have not found anything that I dislike about Moodle up until this point. I would like if it to have more reporting tools. If we could run a report to see what students logged in to class on the first day or by the drop date, this would save instructors a lot of time. Another useful report would be a report that shows which assignment a student completed on the first day of class. This would help us to verify that the student is in fact active in the course. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Moodle:

The best advice I can give to those considering Moodle, is to reach out to the company and ask for a demo. They can even set you up a test site and provide you with admin, teacher, and student access so that you are able to test out the software as if you were in each of these roles. You can also ask the Moodle support/sales rep to provide you with all of the specs and details about the LMS. What we did here at Southeast Arkansas College was create a list of minimum requirements, features and functionality that was an absolute must and they were able to customize the LMS to suit our needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?

I have been solving many of the faculty problems in the past, trying to teach students online. We have added many different plugins and tools to Moodle to make it user-friendly for students and faculty. I have also provided many other pieces of training for both to help them get used to the LMS. Students and faculty that are unable to come to campus are now able to do everything from a remote location. In some cases, students can complete their entire degree online. These are students who would not have been able even to attempt higher ed, otherwise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
