**Reviewed by:** Harshit P. | CG Generalist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Best for animation and character creation. Extremely good API support for custom tool development, hence it's the first to get support for any new innovative tool released.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Some parts of it have not been updated in years which makes it a little destructive in some aspects, compared to other non-destructive applications. For example, lack of modifiers and user friendly Node editor.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The best solution for rigging and animation at the moment. It's capable of handling assets and shots for large-scale workflows. It being industry standard makes it easy to remove obstacles through extensive support.

  ### 5. "3D master"

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Salomi R. | Junior Animator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya gives a complete 3D package. Maya helps to create a project as exactly as u had imagined. This software is great for animation and it's easier to use features like constrains, motion trails, and attribute editors in Autodesk Maya. I am an animator but i love modeling on Maya. Its super convienent and we can find tutorial all over youtube. I love the fact that we can add scripts and plugins according to our needs.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Sometimes, i had face problems like crashing of files, which is so frustrating. It takes a lot of time to render but overall, it's great. It is expensive too.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

It may not be easy to earn the UI at first. But with some practice, you will get used to it.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Maya for almost everything like modeling,UV, texturing, rigging, animating, shading and rendering.Once you get used to the UI, you can learn many things. Maya provide so much feature which is so facinating. For a simple project, you can complete a whole project using only maya. Comparatively to other similar software, I feel Maya is convenient and comfortable for animating and rigging.

  ### 6. IT HURTS

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Metrice B. | Fine Jewelry Clerical, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Maya?**

IT WAS SOMETHING NEW TO LEARN, AND THE PARTICLE SYSTEM, AS WELL AS THE ANIMATION SYSTEM, WERE STRAIGHTFORWARD.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

I HATED WORKING WITH THE MODELING FUNCTIONS. IT'S NOT MAC-FRIENDLY, AND NEITHER ARE THE RIGGING FUNCTIONS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY A PC 😭, WHICH APPARENTLY SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY OPTION. IT'S A PROGRAM THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH CREATED WITH PCS IN MIND.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NOT SURE, HAVEN'T LOOKED INTO IT YET. I'M HOPING THAT SINCE PEOPLE USE IT IN TANDEM WITH UNITY SO OFTEN (WHICH IS MAC-FRIENDLY), THEY EVENTUALLY FIX ALL THESE INTERFACE BUGS.

  ### 7. Maya Great tool for 3D modeling

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John P. | Mechanical engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Maya?**

It allows you to create 3D models in high quality

When it comes to creating 3d models for presentation I really recommend how Maya makes everything so simple and easy by allowing you to create the most accurate and more detailed simulations.

The best feature I have found as an advantage to me as a civil engineer is the bifrost ocean simulation system which allows me to create realistic oceans with waves , wakes and even ripples and this makes my present more spectacular especially when dealing with water structures such as oil rigs my co workers can clearly see my ideas

It is very powerful to the extend that it can edit very large data sets in a small piece of time even the video won't take time

Even though it takes time to learn it is easy to use

It works on the most operating systems used which are windows, mac os and linux

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

It is costly

Even though is powerful it does crush sometimes which will be a really huge drawback

It requires high performing computers

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

I really recommend this software for you if you have high performing computers in your company and if you are financially stable

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a civil engineer i used Maya for making 3d models of projects that we will be working on at that moment for my co wokers to get the more insight on what needed to be done and bring out their own ideas which really did reduced the time we took on a project because they were to visualize the 3d model that has been rendered

  ### 8. Maya is the leading 3D software for character animation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nabin P. | CEO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya has the best set of 3D modeling, animation, simulation, and rendering tools, suitable for developing vast scenes with realistic characters. With its new Bifrost visual programming, it has been easier than ever to develop complex fluid simulations. It comes with a rich collection of readymade graph templates, particles, cloth, and hair simulations. It supports the USD workflows, which has allowed our team to work seamlessly on the massive scenes. It has an integrated Arnold renderer with both CPU and GPU rendering capabilities. Furthermore, Maya can be extended as desired by using a wide range of plugins or by writing scripts on Python.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Maya is an expensive software starting at $215 per month. It requires a powerful computer and graphics card.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

It's a leading 3D development software with rich features and extensive tutorials. Suitable for both filmmaking and game development.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using the Maya software to create realistic 3d models and scenes for indie game developers. The models and effects created using Maya are of higher quality, need less production time, and generate more revenue.

  ### 9. I just love maya that was first 3d animation software i learned, and it still got so much to learn

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Garvit G. | 3D Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

I think the interface is much more appealing to me than rest of the softwares

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Maya is not progressing and changing along with the technology as rest of the competitors in the market

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

If you want to get into animation, you should definitely give it a try. Its overwhelming in the beginning but convenient as you go forward.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I done modeling lighting texturing and rendering in maya and the way i can switch the workflow of these is really helpful. It is a industry standard software so it is a must in yoir portfolio to get a good job.

  ### 10. The 3D Essential -- Now more affordable than ever

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andi S. | Website Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya does it all. It models, simulates, lights, renders, and provides finished works that just about any industry could find utilization. It has a comprehensive modeling toolkit that makes creating film, animation, and game-worthy meshes efficient and straightforward. It has a slew of rendering software integrations that allow you to work in one program and then adopt your workflow into the render solution your company or client is utilizing. It can create basic textures and materials, which can then be upgraded to more complex properties for that final presentation.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Maya has a sculpting toolset that Autodesk previously released a couple of versions ago. I like it, but, also, I'm not too fond of it because it isn't a complete kit. I understand that Mudbox exists for that purpose, but my question for Autodesk would be: Why? Maya has proven it's capable of handling complex projects, so why not integrate Mudbox into Maya and have the genuine all-in-one product that Maya should be?

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Consider other packages such as 3DSMax and the free alternative Blender when looking into software options for your business. That said, the recent subscription model for Maya has made it significantly more affordable than it was previously, and that's enough to make it the top choice, in my opinion.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating finished projects for clients in a timely fashion is why I choose Maya over any other 3D package. Its comprehensive toolkit makes modeling, lighting, and prepping assets for export to other packages for final touches efficient and quick, which is very important when you're in an industry where time always equals money!

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya's competitive strengths are in character animation, visual effects, dynamics, and pipeline integration. Bifrost and MASH have given it a boost in recent years.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

If your project relies on real world units or cad data, Maya is not the program for you. It's not that any of its features are bad, it's just that other programs do things better.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maya is a great program to learn 3d. Everything in it is industry-standard. The biggest benefit is being able to relate to professional standards. The rigging and animation tools are outstanding and allow for a wide range of problem-solving.

  ### 16. makes 3d modelling easy and convinient

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subrata S. | VR Developer , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya has a lot of features and functionalities which helps in making 3d modeling very easy and convenient. Maya integrates with a lot of different renders which helps in creating a lot of realistic scenarios and its integration with a lot of different software like unity and unreal makes exporting data and instantly using it very quickly.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Maya is great software but it needs a lot of resources and is very intensive on the GPU for rendering which makes it basically unusable on a lightweight or a portable machine. Maya also has features that are a little complicated which need past experience with 3d modelling to utilize it to its fullest.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maya has helped us a lot from creating low poly models for a mobile game to creating a realistic scenario for a simulator Maya helps in all and also helps in creating the animation needed and its easy exportation to integrated software.

  ### 17. Powerful but not easy for beginners

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ethan T. | Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Array of tools available for editing and animating are great.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

The software requires a bit of outside knowledge and is not very easy to learn.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**What do you like best about Maya?**

The most helpful was the animation, Fx, and rendering. The output comes is amazing if you know how to use tools perfectly.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

I dislike that there is only one procedural way to complete a task. There should be more options or ways to complete a task. Rest everything is fine.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Maya is an excellent software to use, but it makes your file heavy, so you need good graphics for that.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fx work-related things which produce a good output as desired.

Very fast modeling and UV mapping. And if you are an animator this is a must-have tool for finding lots of tools programs.

  ### 21. Best 3D rendering tool.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barnett'Tów B. | System Application Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

There are so many positive things in this tool, so many features and of course some drawback also but its pros always outshines the cons. Maya 3D is one of the best 3D rendering tool out there. The interface of this tool is also easy once you learn how to use it properly. It is especially made for the 3D animators. Many users of Maya 3D are earning thousands of dollars by just converting their creative thoughts in the animations and providing them to public reach. Let us talk about the features of this tool. You can simply use it to make 3D animations of your thoughts; you can make short films by using it properly. They offer a strong hold to the animations and you can control almost every part of this tool manually to make the perfect thing out of it. They offer so many refining tools with in the software; there is a hair-refining tool that can be used to refine the hair on the heads of your characters with in the animations.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

There is a humongous learning curve of this tool. You have to learn everything that is in this tool to make even a small two second animation. There best part is that there is so much learning data available online on YouTube and such platforms that you can learn how to use Maya 3D within a month or two and can practice it to refine your skills.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You can make a perfect model of your favorite character of any movie or something. The tool itself is very basic, which means users can practice the animations on this tool and then can move on to the professional level tools, if they are making careers out of it.

  ### 22. Maya review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mratunjay S. | 3D Modeler and Rigger, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Rigging options and modelling features in Maya are awesome

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Is a very costly and heavy software for small scale companies

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Animation

  ### 23. Maya-Steep Learning Curve but Very Powerful

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hope G. | Graphic Designer/Marketing Coordinator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

There are many features within one application. There are some very handy features such as auto-rigging, the hypershade tool, and fluid effects that speed up the creation process. Since it is a software that has existed for a long time, there are many resources to help with learning Maya. It is easy to pair with Photoshop to add custom textures.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

It can be complicated at times because of its many layers that cause a steep learning curve. It can be very glitchy, especially with out-of-date versions, I had to use the 2018 edition because my computer couldn't handle the latest version and it often crashes when I try to use the hypershade tool. Certain features aren't obvious as to their use, but luckily there are many tutorials online to help with learning the software. Even in the newer version, it is prone to crashes and glitches that alter the user interface. It is very costly so I don't recommend getting it for personal use, Blender would be a better alternative. However, if you are looking to do 3D modeling at a professional level, I recommend it.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exhibit design work and packaging design. It is very quick to make simple 3D mockups in Maya and create a workflow with photoshop to apply textures. I also recommend pairing it with the online program, Mixamo to create simple character animations.

  ### 24. Very powerful / Technical Program. Great for advanced users of 3D

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher S. | Art Director, Entertainment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

I really love the animation, rigging, and Hair tools they offer. They offer lots of technical control and strong workflows for Animators and VFX artists

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

I find it can be very discouraging at first and find the learning curve to be quite steep. I don't find it's interface very user friendly for the beginner and can feel overcomplicated at times. Sometimes it can be very overly technical compared to a program like Cinema 4D which I feel is much more use friendly. You definitely need a lot of time inside the program to even begin to become efficient in it. Compared to Cinema 4D, where you can create and concept ideas rather quickly and the user interface offers an easier level of entry for beginners who want to learn 3D.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

I'd definitely recommend Maya if the person is willing to dedicate a lot of time to learning it first. Not necessarily a program to jump in and just start creating but for the more Technical artist, it will offer so many tools to really dial your work in. It's used so much in the Film and TV industry but you just have to find what works for you.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely much more rigging and fur problems have been solved with Maya. Some of the tools Maya has are way more powerful than other programs and allow for detailed work to be done.

  ### 25. Maya Is Best for 3d Work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** vijay k. | Sr Lighting Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Interface is so reliable and smooth not much complicated, User Interface is something new users het stuck but maya managed to achieve the concept of simple and classic menu

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Sometimes Fatal error occurs but that can be sorted With many options

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Render time optimisation and Render quality
Modelling heavy models is easy now, We have arnold which is now used in every industry for Getting best results in render

  ### 26. AVT about Autodesk Maya

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alonzo V. | VFX Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

What I like about Maya it's a full animation solution. You can model, rig, animation, simulate, and render. Many may not know this but you can also composite in Maya. Yes, load your renders back in and composite them in Hypershade. Or at least we use to, now Autodesk have switched to "Node Editor" but the Hypershade may still be able to be invoked by editing the Maya.Env file. It's a "Power User" thing so look it up on YouTube.

Eventhough, I use Maya as modeler, rigging, animation and simulation tool, It can be use in tandem with other tools that have specialized featured in each catagory. So though I model in Maya, I also model and sculpt in Pixologic Zbrush. The lastest version of Maya also has sculpt tools but Zbrush is an industry standard tool. The integration between Zbrush and Maya is seamless with GoZ. Even with Maya fur and Hair I often design in Zbrush and import more stylized groom curves into Maya for simulation. Like a lot of other peripheral tools that compliments Maya's workflow, their integration and support is impeccable. Houdini is really big these days for simulation so there's direct intergrations with plugin's called "Houdini Engine". I just started using it, and I am amazed to see the plugin actually has user definable parameters that can be edited in Maya.

Another example of integration is Cloth Simulation. I use Maya's NCloth for clothes but Marvelous Designer is an tool that has staked ground in top productions like Lord of the Rings. So I can make garments in Marvelous and import them into Maya very effortlessly with their multiple caching imports like MDD, Alembic or FBX.

Animation timeline is a vast improvement to making Maya more like MotionBuilder. Mobu as it is referred to is the industry standard for Motion Capture. However, I love it for keyframing. Maya is the premiere animation tool, but Mobu which is also an Autodesk product is like non other for RealTime performance. Mobu and Maya uses the same HIK (Human Rig) and it's a one click solution. I could go on and on about Maya and Mobu. HumanIK delivers but custom Rig is also well integrated. It just doesn't get better in any system. I even use HumanIK with Endorphin which is a Artificially Intellegent RagDoll simulation. It's no longer on the market but nothing comes close. So I won't let it go. I'm glad it's a part of my Mobu/Maya Human Motion Synthesis Pipeline.

Maya makes a great companion even as a utilitarian tool to just fix problems that maya occur in other software. I work with Maya as a "Front End" ElectricImage. So if there's anything EIAS3D can't do, I do it in Maya and send it back to EIAS. So I deliver the goods and not excuses. The work gets done. That's why it's the leader in the business.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

I don't like their new subscription plans. It's personal. I just like owning my own software and systems. Keep the computer personal. With that said, I did buy Maya and upgrade when I can. I would rather buy and own. I don't buy into the fee software options that are out there.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Maya is a pro industry app. The learning curve is a bit steep but there's tons of tutorials for whatever task you need.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Modeling. Rigging. Animation. Character Animation. Simulations. Mocap. 3DPrint. Anything 3D. You name it. I have work in National Fine Arts Museum, including the Guggenheim to Taiwan Fine Arts Museum. I have done commercials, web base Rendering and won Awards such as J.D. Power and Assoc. I'm working on Music video right now.

  ### 27. I love Maya; it's easy to use and easy to learn, and with the new indie license, it's affordable!

Maya is great for learning to model, for hard-surface modeling, for baking maps, for texturing, for implementing plug-ins and renderers, for exporting models, basically everything - they even have sculpting tools built-in

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Autodesk Maya isn't great for organic modeling, even with their sculpting tools. It can be a bit difficult to use, especially node texturing and rendering. I'm not a fan of Maya auto-unwrapping for UVs, it doesn't work well. Aside from that though, I don't have any huge complaints. Previously I would have complained about the extraordinary pricing, but since they added the Autodesk Maya indie licence, that's not too much of a problem anymore

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maya has been great for architectural visualization, modeling, rendering, etc. I also love Maya for environmental modeling and rendering, and even texturing. I've done character modeling in Maya as well, but if it's very complicated geometry I would recommend something a bit more built for that. I also use Maya for animation, which is the best option for animating in my opinion.

  ### 28. Best tool for 3d artists

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sebastian F. | Desarrollador de videojuegos, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

The best thing about Maya is its stability and the amount of tools it already has integrated, without a doubt its physics engine and render are the best in the market. The community and resources are very wide since Maya has remained in the market for more than 20 years, today it is the standard in all Hollywood studios, without a doubt it is the best 3d software tool in the market.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

The interface is a bit complicated to learn to use for new users. The community is not as wide as that of other 3d tools and finally its price is very high.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Having a background in design, photography, sculpture, anatomy, drawing or any visual arts could be good.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Maya to model, rigg, animate and texturing all our 3d Models.

  ### 29. Powerful 3D animation and Visual effects industry tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yu Chieh S. | Computer Graphic Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Direct, easy to understand UI, friendly side notes for every function!
easy to find answers online if you running into problems or difficulty

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

when they update new version, they HIDE the old tools that you used to use and then you have to figure out where to find everything online.
they don't have stack system, so if you mess up, you have to either completed redo it or do lots of manual work.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Model, UV, texture, lighting, rendering.
It's very easy to connect with other programs, but you can create stunning work even just in MAYA!

  ### 30. Cross Platform Expansive Toolkit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher H. | Remote Software Development Contractor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

I use a MacOS computer to complete the majority of my work and Maya is fully supported on all platforms widely used by myself and my co-workers. It's cross platform nature makes compatibility and on boarding simple and effective.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Maya can be convoluted at times, causing some simple tasks to be hard to complete. It also cost far too much for what it brings to the table when compared to it's rivals.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Maya offers a great toolset with innovative connections to the industry leading game engines. Maya connects to both Unity and Unreal with amazing live link features. If you are looking for a tool to generate 3D models but, Blender doesn't work for you or your team. Then Maya is a great tool that will work across windows, Mac, and even integrate into your existing suite of content generation tools.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maya's toolset is extensive, it offers the ability for AAA quality rigging and animation while also offering industry leading render support. It's versatility to generate, render, and animate 3d objects is second to none.

Takes a long time to installing the software.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

creating 3D models, 3D animation, 3D games, visual effects and doing post-production.

  ### 32. useful but complex

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alberto B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya is one of my favorite 3D programs. the thing I love most is the rendering part, because thanks to the different windows you can have all the steps under control.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

The least favorite part of Maya is the interface. Having hundreds and hundreds of tools, the work area is always full and very often I find the search for the tools I need very machine.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

I know it's very complicated but if you could make the interface simpler I would be very happy. In addition.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Thanks to Maya I can create different 3D models and also animate them with simplicity. To then render them and be able to reuse some frames as covers of my different projects.

  ### 33. The best 3D modelling software I have ever seen.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

The main advantage of Autodesk Maya is it's wide range of features. This software has a powerful list of tools for modelling, rendering, animation, rigging and exporting. Developers' experiences have made this software more efficient for the users. This why the software has been the industry standard for 3D modelling and animation for years. The rendering system of the software is powerful so that the user can use it for a realistic outcome. And also, the Maya allows the user to write custom scripts or to download them. So, this software can be recommended even for the experts in the field. Anyone can get support from the developers team and the users all over the world.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

When the value of something is high, we can't expect to get it cheap. When we think about Maya, it's also same. Maya is more expensive than other software used for 3D modelling. Another disadvantage is it's complexity. We have to search all over the interface to find a relevant function or a tool, so this can't be recommended for beginners. Learning Maya is another case. Although there are tons of tutorials in the Internet, someone has to go through all these tutorials to get a better understanding about the software.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Maya for 3D modelling and animation.

  ### 34. Maya is at the forefront of programs for 3D modeling and animation.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clara F. | It Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

I like how much history is behind it. Maya has been around for ages. For this reason, you can effortlessly find tons of online resources for free models, tutorials, manuals, scripts, plugins, and much more. Many of them are even free! Even if you go to many larger companies, they may have internal tools to speed up workflows. So compatibility is one of the best parts.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

The interfaces and production processes required for a simple result can sometimes be excessively cryptic. The user must be prepared to learn the language of Maya before they can truly use the software. The learning curve is steep.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Make the best of it! It is the future! There is nothing you cannot make or do, be it modeling/animation. The ease and quality of modeling is very good, and the animation tips and tricks are through the roof!

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

3D animations, modeling, and rendering are the main tasks, but it is also suitable for experimenting with visualizations, as you can solve a problem in many different ways in Maya, allowing everyone to find the best solution for the problem to be solved. Since there are also many other users, knowledge can be easily shared.

  ### 35. Too complex an interface, yet a powerful tool for fuild architectural designs

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ali A. | Data and Research Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya has the ability to create very fluid models in architecture or furniture/fashion. I find it much easier to model freeforms in Maya than any other software.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

The interface is hideous and hard for the layman person to understand. With every version release, major modelling tools get moved around and make it harder.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

If you are thinking of using maya, i recommend following all the Maya 101 tutorials to get familiar with its capacity. Many people who use Maya do not use it to its potential because they lack the knowledge of what Maya can do.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Modelling Complex geometries and biophilic design products in the built environment. Especially if you like to integrate parametric design to your work, maya is a must-have tool in your palette.

  ### 36. Excellent All-purpose 3d Modeling Package

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Modeling tools are quick and efficient. Easy to write tools and scripts in natives supported python. Wide industry support.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Would like to see more community tools support. Blender gets all the new toys!

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Character and environment modeling, rigging, animation.

  ### 37. Maya is a must-have for any experienced or beginning 3D artist

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

One of the core strengths of Maya in comparison to other 3D modelling software packages is how intuitive and streamlined the user interface is giving the user the ability to manipulate 3D models in a much faster approach. Additionally, the learning curve for Maya is less steep thanks to the UI making it a lot easier for new users to get to grips with the software.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

My only dislike of Maya is the design of the component history. I feel like this could do with a redesign as currently, it can be somewhat tedious to navigate through the history of components when an extensive amount of components has been applied on to models.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

For any new or experienced users interested in 3D modelling and animation, I would highly recommend switching to Maya. It has a fantastic user interface making the overall experience much more pleasant in comparison to other similar software packages, rather than frustrating users that are looking to find specific features hidden in various menus and sub-menus users can quickly get to the features that they are looking for with various methods.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Teaching students to learn the technics and concepts creating 3D models has been much more beneficial using Maya because of the intuitive user interface.

  ### 38. Maya has become my go to 3D software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya is flexible and easy to customize for our pipeline. It has end to end everything I need to produce quality work in VFX, Game Dev, Photoreal Renders, and even Motion Graphics.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Its lacking a simple camera match tool like the one in 3DSmax where I can place points on a model and match to a still image

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Serious 3D Artists should use maya. I started with 3dsMax and after having to use maya for work I found it provides a wider range of control for professional work.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maya allows me to create unique solutions to every project. I have modeled and rigged characters for realtime applications. I have use Bifrost, Bullet, and nCloth to produce dynamic effects for all kinds of visual work.

  ### 39. Industry standard, sadly a terrible piece of software

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Animation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

The software for all it flaws does usually get you to where you need to be, its just the journey that is so painful compared to almost any other rival software

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Most things, This software feels like a culmination of a long history of poor desicions and team in-fighting, some parts of the software have a completley different workflow to others. Stability is poor, New render layers are a disaster as if no industry proffesionals were consulted. The software is inconsistant with its conventions and almost unusable in a production without a lot of third party or in-house plugins.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Try and look into almost any other software first. Houdini is a superior alternative for many tasks (not all).

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Animation, Modelling and Rendering. The benefits are that 3rd party vendors often develop thier plugins for Maya first and are usually the best incarnations.

  ### 40. Needful but overrated

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simone G. | Rigger - Animatore - Animatore tecnico, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Rig is the best part, logic and powerful, animating is basic but effective. It's used worldwide by the major studios and supports many many plugins (including render engines). It integrates with Unreal Engine 4 viewport and with Motionbuilder. Interface is clean.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Many features are obsolete and do not take advantage of modern hardware. Nucleus for example is poorly optimized for multicore cpus (like the new Ryzens) and works best with fast single core cpus (like Intel). The rent cost is ridiculous and it doesn't even provide full support for Arnold.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You have to know the limits of the software before starting a project, but it works great for both individual artists and studio pipeline.

  ### 41. Maya is the industry standard for powerful 3D art, animation, motion graphics, etc.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mason S. | Freelance Animator and Game Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Extensive documentation and years of troubleshooting support already on the web by users over the years. Python integration is very well documented. API allows for plugin writing. Game-centric .fbx export plugin. Enourmous customization potential.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Random crashes here and there, certain processes and tools will cause crashes if not done a certain way, modeling toolkit is still not quit there on par with Substance or Z Brush.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Take time to view tutorials. When looking on forums/discussion boards/web sites for help, it's best to specifically identify the problem instead of just Googling "Maya won't work". There is a lot of documentation out there; you just have to understand what the problem is. Take advantage of Maya's customization capabilities; customizing your experience and learning a little coding to automate certain processes will really take your experience to the next level.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly animation. With Maya I import mocap data, clean it up, then re-export it.

  ### 42. Maya is overpowered but tools are not all intuitive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Fine Art | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Maya is the most powerful piece of software for 3d animation I have ever encountered. There is a tool for anything from node based object distribution to fluid and cloth dynamics. Additionally, it is just really easy to model in once you get familiar with the tools.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

The tools in Maya, while powerful, are not necessarily intuitive, and require memorization of countless key combinations. For some tools, the only way to know all of their nuances and abilities is by trial and error, or to scour the documentation. Unfortunately, while this makes modeling really fast down the road, it means that there is no easy way to get into using the tools except to try stuff over and over. Additionally, someone who has multiple years of experience with the software could suddenly learn that they've been doing it the hard way all this time and find a shortcut that makes a previously obsolete tool suddenly overpowered.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

In order to learn the tools, read all the functions and shortcuts on the Maya Knowledge Network

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

3d animation. It's simply the best for 3d animation.

  ### 43. The right tool for every project!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daina H. | Marketing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

With a wide spectrum of instruments, the multitude of possibilities is incredible. Special tools, devices, or techniques are always available for making anything, from farmland to cars. The scale has been amazing enough to even allow individuals to function for many years, and have an environment in which they excel with Maya.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Very few programs have as much imagination as Maya, but there is a bit of a learning curve and, taking the scale into account, that's to be expected.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Maya to help make beginning plans for clients. If we are hired to paint a house/building with more than a few thousand square feet of wall requiring painting, I am in charge of supervising the creation of a virtual version so as to accompany those working actually painting the house.

  ### 44. Pleasant experience working with Maya as an animator

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Very animator-friendly compared to other softwares used, graph editor simpler to use, live animation layers

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Some minor bugs and Crashes happens often

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It works well for video game as well as film animation, simple to use with unreal engine for game I'm currently working on

  ### 45. Industry Standard for Animation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Addie W. | Executive Assistant, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

We use Maya for all of our 3D and animation needs in Video Game Development, there is no comparison! Maya can easily be extended to make your own tools enabling you to tweak your pipeline to it's fullest potential.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Honestly, nothing to dislike about this software!

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is one of the best software to use and have more then 3000 tools in it.

  ### 46. Unique 3d software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Its ability to make customize the tools as per the users. We can even add tools with the help of mel scripts.

Modelling tools are quite handy.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Somtimes it become very confusing to find exact options.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Maya is very cutting edge 3d software. Many well know productio studios and gaming studios are using it to make 3d models

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With maya creating model and adding textures to it.

  ### 47. The fastest way to draft an idea in 3D

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Micael S. | Manufacturing engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

It's easier to use than other 3D tools available on the market, rendering times are really good, no need to wait for long even without great hardware to render them.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Pricing of Maya is expensive. Unless you know that you are going to work with 3D all the time the price is unreasonable for most people who want to learn.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

It's easy to use but hard to master.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before creating a precision drawing our first step is to create a draft in 3D of the hardware, we use Maya for that.

  ### 48. A great to design products in 3D

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Henry J. | Product Designer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

Very precise and comprehensive NURBS support for product design, after you have a good draft idea you can get the final model all the way to production including 3D printing your design to several scales without losing resolution.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Non procedural workflows can make the program crash if malformed it would be nice to have better safeguards.

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

If you are a student you can get this for free from the AutoDesk webpage with your educational mail address.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great tool for industrial engineers for product design.

  ### 49. Industry Standard

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

The menus are organized very well for such a large and complex program

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

I find it difficult to use (or even understand) NURBS

**Recommendations to others considering Maya:**

Remember to set your project folders up before starting a project. Also remember space bar lets you access almost all menus from the main screen.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I learned everything I know about 3D modeling, rigging, texturing and animation in Maya

  ### 50. My experience was fabulous.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priyam D. | Priyam Dhanuka, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Maya?**

The shortcut keys are way better than unity ones. Also its so intutitve and very quick. I love the import and export Assets feature. Also the ease of moving objects around is brilliant.

**What do you dislike about Maya?**

Its too cluttered and sometimes really heavyweight. Some of the features are never used. It takes quite a bit of time to open up. The rotation of objects is sometimes glitchy.

**What problems is Maya solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing a game. I was developing a world war 2 game, using Maya as a tool for modelling and scene building.
