I haven't been able to invest the time to master the tips and tricks they've shared to make my projects even easier. **What problems is Matterport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Matterport was a tremendous help during the onset of the pandemic, when our customers were not traveling to our plant to complete in-person inspections. Use of the 3-D imaging, coupled with our own videos, allowed us to create a 'virtual' inspection for our customers. Quite frankly, the tools within Matterport itself often allowed for details to be seen that may have been missed by the naked-eye. ### 2. I do restoration work, so capturing a property pre remediation is crucial sometimes for insurance purposes. It also allows us to have a visual representation of exactly what a property looked like when we first arrived onsite in order to cover any potential losses on our end. **What do you dislike about Matterport?** The only thing I can think of would be the app interface. I think it would be neat if there were a Matterport app that I could view all of my spaces on like I do on a desktop. Maybe there is, I'm not sure? But that would be super cool! **Recommendations to others considering Matterport:** If you need any type of property documented for any reason, there is no solution on earth to do the job but Matterport. Truly a unique and invaluable tool that I use on every project **What problems is Matterport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Matterport enables me to be a more effective estimator by allowing me to virtually tour any property I have mapped at any time. In the restoration industry, visual representation of a property is essential through photo documentation. There is, in my mind, no better way to document a property than matterport! We have used Matterport to market many homes listings and people are always impressed with the software and the design. **What do you dislike about Matterport?** The plans they offer are extremely limited. I believe they only have 3 options to choose from and the pricing for these does not make any sense. Typically things get cheaper the more you purchase, but Matterport is the exact opposite. **Recommendations to others considering Matterport:** The app can be extremely glitchy! There were many occasions where we had to rescan rooms multiple times because the Matterport app was not working properly. You also have to have an iPhone to use the app. It is not compatible with Android which is extremely disappointing. We had to purposefully go out and buy an iPhone in order to use Matterport. I personally don't care for iPhone, I prefer Galaxy phones, so this was very frustrating. **What problems is Matterport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Clients can virtually walk through a home without having to step through it. This is very convenient for out-of-state clients. ### 19. There where a problem with the camera, when I turned it on and connect to IPod pro, instead of the scan button on the capture application it says unplug the camera, while the camera is not plugged in. I have tried to shut down it and start again several times, both the camera and the iPod, but nothing changes. The software is updated , the camera is mounted on the tripod and 98% charged, same for the iPad. I have used the camera only once. There were no any accidents with it The camera was guarded safely and clean in the original box. I have contacted about this issue to the customer support on 12.11 , they opened a ticket on 13.11 , I wrote them again on 17.11 today is 20.11 , till now there's no any news from them (8 days). I have told them that I am working as a self employed and at about 10 days ago I have signed a contract with a big real estate company. Now I will lose them, because for sure they will not wait for me months. I took a loan and invested into this camera, which coasts €3581, tripod €200 and also IPod pro €1300 as you need to be able to operate the Matterport camera. So in total about €5000 (for my country the average salary is €1200). I hoped that the camera and the customer support service for which I am paying €75 monthly, will not make for me problems. **Recommendations to others considering Matterport:** If you want to pay for the camera which will work only once and every month pay for unprofessional customer service, do that. **What problems is Matterport solving and how is that benefiting you?** No benefits, just negative impacts!!! ### 28. Matterport interface is easy to use and provides a good user experience. Great options to tag virtual spaces and functionality to drop in media links. **What do you dislike about Matterport?** 1.Not a great opportunity for the "service provider." A service provider's interests are not really aligned with Matterport, since the service provider wants to keep ongoing customers while Matterport is more interested in selling another camera and hosting plan to the customers of service providers. Matterport essentially uses the service provider as an advertisement for their system, and smatters spaces with their logo linked to their site trying to sell the system. This is not a true "White Label" sytem. This devalues the product in my opinion. Furthermore, past stunts from Matterport include advertising lowball service provider rates. (They did stop this at least) and while I can't verify this, some service providers report that Matterport actually had sales people reach out to their clients and try to sell them cameras. 2. Expensive Data "Hostage" System - You don't own the data you capture, rather Matterport does. As long as you own the camera and want to use it, you will be stuck in Matterport's system and forced to fork out for expensive payment plans whilst at the mercy of whatever they decide to do. Matterport retains absolute autonomy and has recently raised the cost of their hosting plans. If you like the feeling of having control over your data & expenses, Matterport will be a bad choice in my opinion. Furthermore as I got into Matterport to document construction sites & MEC systems, I quickly realized this lack of autonomy was also a problem for clients who need to "own" the data, particularly government agencies who have security concerns as well. 3. Market Demand & Disruptive Technology - Matterport is very expensive IMO and they as a company overestimate the value it delivers. While it is truly a great product, the upfront and ongoing expense seems disproportionate to the value it brings. Furthermore cheaper and disruptive tech is always hitting the market, making this very questionable for someone viewing this as a business opportunity. SUMMARY: For me and my use cases, I really disliked feeling "hostage" to their system, and I didn't feel the market valued the product enough to make it worth it becoming a significant part of my business. I was honestly relieved to sell the camera. Furthermore the risk is you will spend alot of money on this, get "locked" into the system, only to discover a competitor has developed a more cost effective system that gives the user more autonomy. So for me Matterport really just overvalues itself in light of the risks, lack of control, and expenses to the service provider. **Recommendations to others considering Matterport:** This is the review I wish i'd seen before I blew my money on Matterport as a service provider. Its a great system and may work for the right business. I really recommend you question it though, and if you are willing for the committment of building a library of data that "traps" you into the system. **What problems is Matterport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Capturing spaces in 3D for "virtual" viewing. Provides a detailed virtual capture system that is seamless with a collaborative interface. ### 29. It really lets your clients get a feel for the house much better than looking at photos. The houses for which we use Matterport also sell quicker than the ones with just regular photos. It’s so easy and the results are so great! **What do you dislike about Matterport?** The price of the camera is the only thing that seems a bit off. It is very expensive and there seem to be 360° cameras popping up on shelves that are much cheaper. However, Matterport does have 3D features and those cameras don’t, so I suppose that’s a big factor. **What problems is Matterport solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have realized that clients want to actually feel like they are walking through the house so they can understand the layout and size and envision what it would look like if they lived there. Normal photos come nowhere close to a 3D tour on Matterport, and clients who watch the tours are already familiar with the house before meeting a realtor in person, which usually means that they are more likely to make an offer. At the beginning this is quite ok. But after a few months paying for the webhosting becomes very annoying. If you act as an agency as we do - you would have to sell the VR Tour webhosting to your customers as well. From our experience not to many smaller clients are willing to pay on a monthly basis for webhosting JUST for VR / 360 Tours.
