I like that the produce has both desktop and mobile app Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When I message two people and without tagging anyone it would not show up any conversation badge so if might not notice the conversation. Rather it would just bold the perople group Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love the ease with which we were able to get this running and used by the team. It is a great mechanism for communication in-house amongst our team members. I love the markup capabilities that it has so team members can share code snippets and get input. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If we want to roll this out to a larger user base in the company we have to use a public server. Right now we keep it in-house for a specific team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
organised channels which works great in the professional environment, notification from 3rd party channel helps with the development flow for a coder like me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
nothing really concerning as it does everything i expect it to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The most important feature that made us choose Mattermost is that mix of out of the box system and open-source. We are able to customize the software as per our requirement which is a big feature. We can mold the software to our company and not the other way round which is the problem with most of the other player in the market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are only two dislikes I have found with the system which can be made better. One is the notification system. The notifications in public and private channel are not clear which has been informed to the customer support team. Second thing is that there are certain features which cannot be used as an add on feature based pricing and the most expensive licenses has to be purchased. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that Mattermost is super similar to Slack. For those of us who are restricted at work in terms of using software freely, it offers the same simplicity and functionality that Slack does, while being open source and self-hosted. I also like the additional security of Mattermost where you can control who has access to the data on the server (end-to-end encryption). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No cloud service, UI for the native desktop application is less aesthetically pleasing than Slack Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Mattermost allows our team to chat and collaborate in real-time and share files. This has minimized use of email which is enabling the team to be more productive. In addition, the robust search capability can be leveraged to look for previous persistent conversations (things like issues, files, etc.). These features have really provided a culture-shift in a great way for our team and how we work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I do wish Mattermost had audio/video/sharing features built in without using bots or plugins. It would allow our organization to use one platform for chat and audio/video calling so that other applications could be retired. I understand the complexities this could cause for an organization that already has a dedicated client for those features, but it would be a welcomed addition, that could allow even more productivity from Mattermost. Chat data is by its very nature sensitive, and not something I want to entrust to a third party if I can avoid it. With Mattermost you don't have to; it has all the bells and whistles of Slack - the present chat solution du jour - but implemented as a FOSS product. Best of all, it's more or less a drop-in replacement, both in terms of experience and integrations, with none of the arbitrary restrictions enforced by Slack. Mostly minor issues, but the team is responsive in terms of resolving user reported issues. Handling of multiple teams overall works well, but could be even better with some polish. Ever improving keyboard shortcut support is always welcome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Mattermost can be self hosted and the software is relatively lightweight to run. Most importantly, the collaboration history and communications across teams/users is limited only by your physical storage. There's no cap on history with is incredibly useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only annoying feature is that the macOS desktop client does not work with mac keychain for passwords. It's only a minor thing but falls behind iOS and web versions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It allows us to have greater control in our platform and offers us all the benefits of instant and collaborative messaging that offers us to have public and private chat and have all this potential locally compatible with QNAP. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some updates are conflicting and generate various problems such as lag or crashes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's free and opensource, you can have both private and public channels. Ideal for having a off topic groupchat with colleagues and an official chat for only work related topics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Scrolling back through a big groupchat history is really slow, the search function works decent enough though.
For a user there is no option to take a backup of the group history. An export function would have been great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
