## Maia Reviews
  ### 1. Complete ETL tool but could have a better support.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paulo Henrique O. | Data Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Maia?**

Their tool is almost complete and helps a lot during the ETL process.
The interface is pretty cool and easy to be understood.
The tool performance is also something relevant and brings a lot of gains.
It was really easy to create a connection between my RDS Database, Matillion, and Redshift.
Their idea of flow it's pretty cool and easy to follow every day.
I am also using the feature of schedule the runs, which works as a job, running the entire flow as set by myself, reducing the amount of data that we would transfer if the often was less frequently.
Another nice thing is how to subscribe to their tool, I could easily manage that using the AWS Market Place where I have the option to subscribe for the product and all the costs goes directly to my AWS account and I pay per hour, so I can run and stop my instance anytime and avoid some undesired costs.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

Their support team is not that fast and sometimes it's hard to find solutions on their documentation.
I had a support case which stayed open for 4 days and I didn't get any reply, I had to find a workaround by myself.
Some data types for Redshift they do not support.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

Check their documentation before subscribe and be sure that they have all you need.

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I could solve our problem by doing the whole ETL process using Matillion to extract data from RDS and send it to RedShift and do not creating a homemade tool.

  ### 2. User friendly and intuitive tool for almost anyone.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mandar D. | Associate Vice President, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Maia?**

User Friendly (but simple) user interface is big plus point. Tools which I have used are either power full with complex User interface or simple and basic. Because of simple user interface and drag and drop functionality it provides various components right from AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and also can execute python, R scripts or custom programs.
This enables users / developer to learn it very quickly than any other tool or scripts.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

Many cloud base tools always provides trial of 7 / 14 / 30 days (or some credit) so that more people can try it out. I am sure there must be reason but if you can provide such facility then more people get opportunity to try it out and provide. like google provides $300 credit along with it if Matillion provides then clients can try end to end data flow.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

There are few factors can be considered in mind
1) Minimal Learning Curve: Matillion has pre-defined courses which are very practical and takes your practical implementation. within a couple days of efforts any developer can get familier with tool and get started with project.
2) User Interface: User Interface is such that it is easier for anyone (Like business analyst) to review the flow and rectify rather than line by line coding. This makes it easier for long run
3) Cloud base: This is light weight as zero installation is required. So from developer perspective this is best thing one can get
4) Execution and validation is very quick so it can be done easily.

So I would definitely recommend tool for anyone who is starting data management project.

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

our proposed flow is where we need to connect data sources from AWS (Redshift) , SQL Server and load into Big Query. So Matillion comes very handy with connectors and all possible combinations of joining, combining data at interface.
Connecting diverse datasets is huge benefit. Lot of tools do not offer cloud components. As compare to it, this is big advantage.

  ### 3. Easy and comprehensible

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Maia?**

I never worked on any ETL tool and all I know was my own logics and my own problem-solving skills.
Creating jobs in Matillion has been very busy with least time investment.

Basic tutorial is enough to understand the functionalities, understand various kind of jobs: orachestration, transformation, cleansing etc.

Secondly, support team is very helpful and gives solutions quickest as possible.

I have used RESTful API and parsed XML files which was Salesforce pardot data to integrate and load the same to the centralised datawarehouse. And this all requirement completed within two weeks which could never be possible if support team were not there.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

There is no recursion functionality but later I worked out with using loop function.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

**What do you like best about Maia?**

It's easy and fast to pull data from various data sources to load into cloud data warehouse, requires less coding experience, the graphic interface is very friendly and intuitive

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

While dealing with complicated transformation logics, I write SQL procedures in the database, however I feel it's hard to call the procedure from Matillion.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

If complicated data transformation process is involved, better to use on-premise ETL solution at this moment.

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Migrated On-premise solution to cloud, build data pipeline to populate cloud data warehouse. The benefits I realized are like less configuration to build end-to-end pipeline for big data/cloud computing solution, besides, data loading performance is amazing.

  ### 22. Great for moving data to Snowflake, but not OUT of Snowflake

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael S. | Director, Business Intelligence and Web Services, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Maia?**

It has a very easy graphic interface, and it integrates really well with Snowflake. It is also nice that it runs in a Web browser and on AWS.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

While it provides excellent ability to move data into Snowflake, it does not provide much ability to get data out to integrate with other endpoints. It's mostly one-directional. That might meet the needs for some clients, but not all. Also, the pricing model is difficult for light usage clients. It is charged based on the time the virtual machine is turned on, not by how many jobs or computing resources are being used.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

Think about whether you are looking for a data pipeline into Snowflake, or looking for a full integration (iPaaS) tool. Matillion is outstanding as a one-direction data pipeline, but is not an integration tool.

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Matillion allowed us to very quickly and easily get our data pipelined into Snowflake data warehouse from a variety of sources.

  ### 23. Fits us perfectly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martin H. | Business Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

The node-based UI is a great way to set up and schedule tasks, from the simple to the increasingly complicated.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

The powering-up or scheduling of the virtual machines is not easy, and I rely on our tech team to do this for me when needed.

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ETL, picking up data from various sources, transforming, and dropping into our virtual data lake layer.

  ### 24. Matillion ETL Experience

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Maia?**

it has good features and working good with amazon redshift database.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

The product is not having any looping methodologies comparing with latest ipass tools.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

looping needs to be keep in place and scheduling should easier.

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrating data with several sources and aggregate data in the facts.

  ### 25. Powerful yet simple ETL tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Maia?**

Matillion has a huge selection of pre-built connectors out of the box...twitter, salesforce, AWS services, etc... The interface is extremely easy to use and requires no coding at all. For more custom tasks however, you can always add a Python component and write whatever code you need.

**What do you dislike about Maia?**

So far there is very little that I dislike. The one thing that comes to mind is that there is no on-prem installation option, so I can't use the tool to access databases behind our firewall.

**Recommendations to others considering Maia:**

Start by subscribing to the Matillion Youtube channel, or at least watch their videos...there are quite a few. This is a great introduction into the interface of Matillion and its power and ease of use

**What problems is Maia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to access our data lake in Redshift and create star-schema/dimensional data models. This allows us to offer analytics to our major customers, increasing satisfaction and revenue.
