MariaDB is essentially the same as MySQL, except it is community managed. Having said that, MariaDB is great to work with and it’s security is sufficient for our purposes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As it is community managed, MariaDB (unfortunately) receives less updates compared to MySQL. Also, it is not the easiest software to get set up and secured for a production environment (whitelist-only connections to the database, etc.). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The best part of MariaDB is the support for multiple database engines without requiring separate licenses. Impressed by the functionality provided by InnoDB and TokuDB. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The lack of a GUI tool for performing basic administration tasks, such as job scheduling, backups, replication configuration, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the facility of use of mariaDB, it's really fast, optimized and works very well into the SQL relational environment. It's a good way to start also in the SQL world. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's only limited to relational SQL, it could be fine to expand this options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The functionality of the database, fairly simple to use once you learn how to utilize it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nothing at the moment, I have used it for a short period of time but I have no complaints. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The simple fact that this is an open source product is enough for me to like it. The reliability, ease to deal with, and the flexibility it provides is another point that I like about MariaDB. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I can´t find a reason to not like this product. It´s a mature product with origins on open source projects and going through the biggest company alive then, which was acquired by the biggest company alive now. It has a past, present and bright future. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's a great piece of software for a database. Easy to deploy and use using SQL. Open source too which is always a perk. It has more advanced features than say it's parent, MySQL, so it's much superior to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Can't scale like other solutions, but should be easy to transition if your needs grow too big. It''s good for a centralized database and small to medium sized setups. Depending what your needs are of course. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you want a MysQL open this is the one you are looking for, it is fast, simple and also light, widely recommended Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
"I can't complain about this database handler based on MySQL, it simply does what it should do, I've never used it in very large environments," Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
That they pried MySQL out of Oracle's ugly clutches. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
That MySQL still exists and people still use it despite knowing that it's owned by a horrible organization that will betray them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
