"Acceptable alternate to ArcGIS for beginner and intermediate users alike"

What do you like best about Map Maker?

The user interface is relatively easy to navigate as a beginner, and you can choose to upgrade to the Pro or use the Gratis version. Standard shapes and functions can be added to the map and stored as data in excel, SQL, CSV files, and more. The page view helps navigate printing large-size renderings for those of us who have challenges with spatial visualization. Users can begin the process in various methods - with existing photography, imported data, or a scan of a paper map. The final map may consist of multiple layers of files. What do you dislike about Map Maker?

Mapmaking without existing data can be difficult due to the application's limited capacity. Furthermore, although its application is simple, it is not available on mobile. The live layer of the final map can be accessed through Map Maker or compatible applications. With most government companies using ArcGIS, this limits project continuity for files put together with map maker. Finally, the current map maker manual link is broken, and customer service is difficult to reach via email. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Map Maker:

If you've used other complex systems such as ArcGIS, this is an easy alternative that you can use if there is no universality and or continuity required between map users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Map Maker solving and how is that benefiting you?

I used this application for a community service project with low funding to map out areas of indigenous species with warnings of invasive species in Southern California due to its similarity to ArcGIS and comparable affordability and long trial period. I provided the recreational county department with a family-friendly instructional map to exhibit at the ranger station — the ability to add attribute data allowed for the educational component of the project to fit. Due to the needs of the county and the short project period, map maker turned out to be the perfect software to get the job done. In the event of any changes needed, the county may recommend the software to the next intern. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Map Maker?

It is easy to install, no credit card is needed to take the 30-day free trial, and after the trial, you can use the FREE trimmed version called "GRATIS Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Map Maker?

- Lack of tutorials to get started.

I enjoyed using this, but it was not quite as user friendly and intuitive an interface as I'd like. I think I would look for pre-made maps next time instead of trying to make my own . Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
