LibreOffice is completely free, runs on Linux easily and provides almost the full functionality of office standards such as Microsoft Office. It has, as far as I can tell, full functionality for Writer, Draw and Calc, and only a formatting issue with Impress. So for freeware, this is as good as you will find!
It is also great that you can save with many file extensions. So if you need for example .csv, .xls. or similar for spreadsheets, those are all available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My biggest pet peeve is that LO-Impress does not sync well at all with formats from Keynote, Powerpoint, etc. The formatting gets completely screwed up. But I've not yet had this issue arise with any of the other sub-programs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It’s free & does mostly the same functions as MS Office Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not much to not like except getting used to how to work the programs within it after strictly using MS Office most of my life Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's similar to MS Word, in its early versions. There's also alternatives not only for Documents, but also for slides, spreadsheets, databases and more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
In order to get the MUFFIN (the Ribbon similar in LibreOffice) you have to manually install the new version. if you are using a rolling release, you won't get it automatically. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If you're comming from Microsoft Office it will be easy to switch. It needs less resources to run properly in an average computer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Visually it's not the best thing out there. LibreOffice has some issues with complex xlsx sheets Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Besides being free and open source, the software can be used on multiple systems - I use it on Ubuntu and Windows. It's a great low-cost option for offices seeking some basic functions, and quite frankly, it's much less confusing than some of Microsoft Office's options. There's also a "portable" version that you can install and run on a Flash Drive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I'm not a big fan of Base (the equivalent of Access) or Impress (its PowerPoint version) - both have slightly more of a learning curve, but in all honesty - most open source software has *some* learning curve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It's free. LibreOffice is open source and the source code and formatting are compatible with MS Office 2010/2013/365 product lines. It's available on all platforms- MS Windows, Apple MAC OS and Linux. It's easy to learn and use and comes with a great user community and online support site. Oh yeah, it's free too! Some formatting gets lost or even corrupted when the file is opened in MS Office. I wished it has a better drawing program and graphics editor like the MS Office Suite does. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Imagine Microsoft Office 2000 or 2003 Professional, and take away the price. That is approximately equal to LibreOffice. It has a lot of different applications in the LibreOffice suite. It saves out to Microsoft formats to keep compatible with Microsoft Office. It also is offline, unlike Google Docs, which means you can edit your document anywhere you wish. If you wish to keep your documents out of the cloud and your cost low, this would be a great tool to do that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The icon set looks 10 years old. It is likely going to have issues with advanced Microsoft Office documents and features, including macros. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
