What do you like best about LabVIEW?

In my opinion, graphical programming and the G language should become an evolutionary continuation of text-based programming. All the prerequisites for this are in place, and the advancement of LabVIEW is progressing (though not as quickly as one might hope). On the other hand, perhaps that's for the best, as there is less competition. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

1.This is its cost.

2. Integration limitations in Linux for both the IDE itself and the software products created within it.

3.The cost of NI hardware systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

In my case, thanks to my experience in robotics and automation, as well as the capabilities of LabVIEW, I became the author and developer of my own commercial brand, BEEPTOOLKIT - IDE Soft Controller. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

LabVIEW Overview

What is LabVIEW?

LabVIEW is systems engineering software for applications that require test, measurement, and control with rapid access to hardware and data insights. The LabVIEW programming environment simplifies hardware integration for engineering applications so that you have a consistent way to acquire data from NI and third-party hardware. LabVIEW reduces the complexity of programming, so you can focus on your unique engineering problem. LabVIEW enables you to immediately visualize results with built-in, drag-and-drop engineering user interface creation and integrated data viewers. To turn your acquired data into real business results, you can develop algorithms for data analysis and advanced control with included math and signal processing IP or reuse your own libraries from a variety of tools. To ensure compatibility with other engineering tools, LabVIEW can interoperate with, and reuse libraries from, other software and open-source languages.

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

LabVIEW is a graphical programming tool with a lot of toolboxes. You need not to cram the syntax for using LabVIEW like in C or C++ etc. LabVIEW will automatically run independent codes in parallel. It is easy to sync Labview with NI hardware and can be used for many applications including IoT, GNSS, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

LabVIEW is very expensive and is not backward compatible.

That is a program called virtual instrument developed in version 2017 will not run in 2018 or any higher version.

It is not compatible in non NI hardware in most of the cases and NI hardware are very costly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use LabVIEW for programming and teaching subjects like Communication Systems, DSP, etc.

I have also used LabVIEW for my research and developed a multi-constellation multifrequency GNSS receiver using LabVIEW Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

With Labview, it is possible to develop software for test and measurement on the fast track. Labview provides common visualization elements and functions for measurement data (such as strip chart recorders), which must be reinvented in other languages. LabVIEW is a graphical programming language. Instead of typing code lines, programming is done by drawing the code, with functions blocks, interconnected. Debugging is possible by literally watching values running in the wires. Though LabVIEW is best for the development of test, measurement and data evaluation software, it is possible to develop software forany purpose. There is a huge community of labview programmer and forums for trouble shooting and example codes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

The deployed executables are relatively big in size (nowadays, no real problem). You cannot simply copy the executable file on a computer, it is required to create a complete installer package that installs the runtime engine of LabVIEW too. The runtime engine is free of cost but also rather big in size. So even small tools may result in huge installer packages, which can take many minutes to install (at the first time).

Also, when it comes to max performance (in terms of execution speed and data throughput), Labview has its limitations. (especially for graphical display) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Labview to develop my commercial test and measurement software product which acquires measurement from various instrument manufacturers. Besides the pure acquisition, it covers all required tasks, from recording, replaying, data presentation, data processing, and report generation. All programmed purely in Labview. What do you like best about LabVIEW?

Ability to quickly launch test programs and ability to quickly understand and modify old programs quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

Development on LabVIEW seems to have stalled. HSDIO still only supports 32-bit LabVIEW. Integration with Mercurial is rather crude. Really need to simplify the selection of a list of typedefs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:

Take time to learn the basics. LabVIEW is an entirely different programming paradigm. You do not use it for text processing. LabVIEW is 100% targeted for Data Acquisition, Instrument Control, capturing results and displaying them. LabVIEWs Analog and Digital graphs are some of the best in the industry. I have yet to find any other applications or libraries which can compare in the graphing realm. LabVIEW is also the simplest multi-processing programming environment out there. There are only a few downsides of LabVIEW such as the extremely large footprint and computing horsepower needed to support it. I strongly advise placing LabVIEW on a dedicated computer without other resource hogging programs such as Microsoft Office products. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ability to quickly modify test programs with a nice GUI interface for users who cannot handle command-line. Changes are easy to implement. The latest addition of JSON has improved working with other support applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:

If you have to write a distributed EXE for a complex control program using ANY National Instruments AData Acquisition or ANY Comms then you will discover you can release a full 10K Medical approved executable in one TENTH the time as if you had to do it in C++ or anything else. PLUS. their customer service is EXTRAORDINARY. The techs you speak to are EXTRAORDINARY. They KNOW THE PRODUCT. It is AMAZING. I have been using it since 1990 from LV 3.0 in Windows 3.0! Even works on Windows 11! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
