## Kubuntu Reviews
  ### 1. Well Balanced for Linux/non-Linux users

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** D'Arcy H. | Technical Support Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Ease of use, geared toward Linux and non-Linux users, light the ability to have light and dark themes. It is the best way to introduce anyone into a Unix/Linux environment. Gui is friendly to look at and use. I would recommend it to anyone.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

I would like to have a bit more user-friendly integration to allow non-Linux users to have the ability to use and relay in a Unix-based environment and all of the security that this entails.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As with any Unix/Linux backend, the command line is king, and the included tools allow for the testing of networks for various hostnames, domains, and other servers. Also, able to test some different server configurations using Kubuntu to see if Unix implementation is available for multiple applications.

  ### 2. Kubuntu - Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sriraj N. | Technical Account Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The gui is refreshing. If you are tired and bored of the default ubuntu gui but are not too keen on other distros then kubuntu is for you

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

The gui might be too daunting for some. Feels like too heavy on resources

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Daily driver operating system for my laptop. All office functions

  ### 3. A better and faster version of linux distro

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

System runtime was one of the key points to use kubuntu, a very light distro on resources so we use that at our main database server and it works very well in high traffic also.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

A very little community to help each other, some of the plug and play devices drivers were not available.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At our company's R&D level we always needed more resources to fulfill our programming needs which were very easily done by low consumption of kubuntu

  ### 4. The best light weight OS for almost all the basic needs and embedded systems projects.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sainathan I. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The most important thing about Kubuntu is that it's lightweight and easy to use, just like the windows operating system. And also its supports all the open-source software right out of the box like LibreOffice, and it also has its proprietary email service called the Kmail. Since it's designed in the KDE environment, it's much faster than Ubuntu. Best for developing cross-compiled applications and firmware for most of the prototyping boards like Raspberry Pi and STM32.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

There is not much to dislike from Kubuntu. There is very few lightweight OS in the market that solve the purpose. Some of my projects require Embedded Systems development, and there are few OS explicitly designed for that, and I must say Kubuntu also meets some of those requirements.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Kubuntu is the best fit for all the new people to Linux Environment but wants to have that Windows OS feel. It also helps all the system software engineers who want to write device drivers for their embedded applications. It also features one of the best document viewing and editing tools, like Okular. I would recommend Kubuntu for the electronic design engineers who want to port their current designs to Linux-based systems. You can also install your favourite media apps along side your work apps.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am pursuing a career in embedded software development. This job involves developing complex software, especially firmware, that will be running in most of the electronic appliances that we use, such as washing machines and also Cars. Firmware here will be device drivers that need to coding in languages such as C and C++. And most of these devices run Linux, and some appliances also use Android because it's also based on Linux.
So Kubuntu has been beneficial since it provides all the tools such as the G++ compiler and has the best debugger pre-installed for the development. Also, it comes pre-installed with Okular, which is the best document viewer for viewing PDF files.

  ### 5. Overall good system with almost all Ubuntu features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ivan M. | Infrastructure Delivery Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

UI is pretty good, with a lot of enhancements. Very user-friendly. Fast installation, fast system loading. Good scaling, nice music player

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

KDE Wallet is not user-friendly, SAMBA is very slow and works only with IPs, system montior UI is overloaded.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

For home use it could be a good fit, but not for work.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was installed at VM to understand if it could be a replacement for Ubuntu.

  ### 6. Kubuntu a modern desktop for Ubuntu

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** José Miguel S. | Java developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Apparently is most modern that others like Gnome

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

The worst point is the performance, it's slow than others and consumes a lot of memory, it depends if your computer has enough capacity

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

It depends of user's experience, it's a Linux environment, you should test it

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's free and it's very friendly, it's so similar to windows but has the power of a Linux machine

  ### 7. Its fluid and lightweight

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhijeet S. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

All the ubuntu features works with a light weight ui to support the extra software you can install as it is quick and snapy,I personally felt less dependency issue than ubuntu

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Open source not maintained ,can be optimized more, additional inbuild features can be added 👍

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Can use as a replacement for ubuntu

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Replacement of ubuntu as its heavy one can use kubuntu for snapy working.

  ### 8. A light weight linux distro.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The best thing in Kubuntu is that it's an official flavour of Ubuntu. Since the desktop environment is KDE, which is a lightweight environment. It gives a seamless experience even on a legacy machine with ram as low as 2gb. For better experience I would recommend to extend your ram upto 4gb. Additionally, it supports all the applications supported on Ubuntu. If you're new to Linux, this OS is definitely a good choice to start with because of it's user friendly ui and good community support.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

There is no such thing that I dislike in any of the Ubuntu distro, be it lubuntu or kubuntu or ubuntu mate. The UI and looks are slightly minimal in kubuntu and lubuntu than mate. Everything else is more or less the same.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a kubuntu user for 2 years now. I started off with using it for educational purposes which included basics of system administration, shell scripting and getting comfortable in the terminal life. Also, I do most of my development work and day-to-day work on the same system. The benefits are good support, fast and light.

  ### 9. Not the best, But Good operating system

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vatsal S. | Research Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu is a flavor version of Ubuntu. It provides a plasma desktop environment in its default distribution. The GNOME and graphics of Kubuntu are awesome. It is far better than Ubuntu. The best future of Kubuntu is card swapping ability, which is very useful for the NVIDIA server. There are other versions of Ubuntu, but as per my opinion, Kubuntu is best for all.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Overall, Kubuntu is best for techie or non-techie geek. But I found some negative points of its. Software packages of Kubuntu sometimes not respond very well with applications running in background. Apart from this, I am not able to find any other issue in Kubuntu.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

It is best open-source operating system and best variant of Ubuntu in the market right now. I would suggest go for it once. You will love it.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Kubuntu in the all the system in our company. By using the open-sourced operating system like Kubuntu, we can improve our efficiency, performance and skills.

  ### 10. Good for lower configuration computers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pranay S. | Software Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu is too good if you dont have one of those high end computers ( 32 GB RAM and TBs of storage). As it is built on core ubuntu, all the benifits of ubuntu(which are huge) are applicable. It's very easy to use, developer friendly, fast and what not. In addition to those this flavour is specially light weight that makes it even better for the low end pcs. In addition since it comes with it's own KDE, there are plenty options available for customization purpose that brings a new feel towards the user experience.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

It's not attractive for those having decent/good configuration, although it's not much of an disadvantage as those are not the target audience any way. Since it missed the GNOME it is not for the hardcore developer who don't want all the customization but super performance while developing there codes and run. If I will have to chose I'll chose Ubuntu for my primary device, due to the great performance by Ubuntu.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Yes, I'd definitely recommend kubuntu, if you are new to development or still learning. You dont want to invest a lot initial days. Kubuntu is free and is worth a try.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

for one of my very old pc with 2 gb ram, I was looking for an os that can help me to use that as my secondary pc. When the primary is not available for some reason, I don't want my work to get affected. Although it's not very frequent, but it's always good to have a backup. I found kubuntu to be perfect for it. I realised I dont lose much as such while working on it, it doesn't freeze or hang much.

  ### 11. Good environment, based on Ubuntu, however Plasma can improve their performance and animations.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres R. | Programmer Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The distribution is stable, the repository is Ubuntu-based. That means while downloading dependencies it should be easier than other distributions such as Pacman. It's one of the most beautiful distributions, and also is continuously being updated to new security improvements, bug fixes-improvements, and new things.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Although I like its design, I think it can be improved (user experience), its stability can be improved, I've had some unexpected reboots or sometimes from doing nothing it appears system problem detected and is very annoying.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

I would recommend to others that is a good OS, it's worth it, and it's free, as it's based in Ubuntu if it's your first time using Linux, you would have a good experience, maybe you will ask some questions while installing it because some concepts may be new, but watching videos, will help you a lot, also if you like the personalization, you can watch videos as well. It's a good customizable system.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Especially it was one of the operative systems I used in the work before they made me use Windows. I used it normally for coding, watching videos, listen to music, and make documents. I like it more than Windows due to its management: users, good for servers, more stability.

  ### 12. Great Ubuntu Alternative with Beautiful Interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bobby V. | Systems Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu is a great open-source product that serves as an alternative to other user-friendly operating systems like Windows and macOS. It is one of the best Linux implementations focusing on user-friendliness and customizability.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Although it has almost anything needed in terms of applications out of the box, it still lacks compatibility with some 3rd party software. I wouldn't completely switch to Kubuntu from one of the most popular operating systems. I've also noticed some stability issues that are not so pronounced with the Ubuntu distro.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

If you have experience with Ubuntu but want to try something with a fresher design, you might want to give Kubuntu a shot. It has a great set of tools out of the box and can meet most of the day-to-day activities without installing a lot of additional software.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm testing some Linux software implementations and I find Kubuntu to have a prettier interface than Ubuntu. The KDE desktop looks very pleasing to the eye and features more control and customizability than the GNOME-based Ubuntu.

  ### 13. Versatile Desktop Environment

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Isaac A. | Product Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

It was every configuration option under the sun. You can make it look like anything you want, from simple and clean interfaces to busy and full of system information. There are tons of tutorials and a few sophisticated tools that make theming easier.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

It has some issues with new hardware. Zoom/Goole Meet screen sharing might display artifacts and blinking, which isn't fun to the other people (the user can't see it, only the others).

Some options aren't compatible together, so you need to experiment a lot.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

If you like to customize the look and feel of your operating system, this desktop environment is for you.
It is also lightweight (as far as DEs go).

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is fast and not heavier than the alternative. It provides a usable system to program, browser the web, and work.

  ### 14. Kubuntu.

Some applications that are included in the OS do not easily integrate or transfer with mainstream OS document types and some document types are not supported

Kubuntu serves all the basic needs of an OS with a free and open-source community - worth a try to see if it can satisfy all the requirements of the user

I am solving the business' reliance on mainstream OS platforms and the cost of enterprise use

**Reviewed by:** Clement S. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu is easy to use, highly customizable due to KDE as its default desktop environment and user-friendly.

Not much dislike. Since it is ubuntu-based, it is not a rolling distro like Arch Linux and you have to wait each year for major releases.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I started with Kubuntu as a beginner in the Linux world.

Some applications do not work with this OS, but those same ones don't work with any Linux OS, so it's ok and I deal with it.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu helps me with my everyday functions at work. It is where I send and receive emails, interact with corporate files, and chat with other employees throughout the day.

  ### 26. Linux All the Way | Kubuntu Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Master Enterprise T. | Information Technology Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu has many features I like, the main one being it's free & massively customisable. The installation is smooth and consistent, as with many versions of linux the resource usage is extremely lean and isn't hungry for CPU use, which means those resources can be better used on different processes.

When training end-users on this software, a lot of their knowledge from Windows is transferable to Kubuntu due to the easy to use GUI.

A lot of your knowledge from Ubuntu can be transferred over to Kubuntu, It's basically the same but cleaner.

I love the fact Kubuntu is open source & defines the highest level of security as compared to other Linux Distro's.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Installing - Partitions has no labels, quite confusing when trying to get 10x machines imaged at the same time remotely. After installations I have noticed a bug with the Wireless Configuration, during the installation wizard the wireless configuration will not remain preserved.

Although I'm a big Linux fan, I feel Kubuntu has moved away from the Linux feel for ease of access and made it more like Windows, this comes at an advantage for training users, but a disadvantage for my personal opinion.

Limited Functionality due to Limited Applications

Problems with Software & Hardware compatibility

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Download the ISO, stick it on a USB and live-boot, have a play around with it and trust me you will love it!

The installation is straight forward and easy to use. This software is massively backed by the community, It is very stable and you can almost guarantee If someone has had a problem before, it will be on the community pages of Kubuntu for you to find a solution.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Massively reduced the infrastructures budget due to licensing. It takes half the time to install than Windows so this massively increases workflow and productivity. The customisation is very beneficial so we can have our distributions the way we like them & not have to worry about some Windows 10 Update setting it all back.

Kubuntu's shell also has Python 3 installed as default, which massively plays a part in my Python learning.

  ### 27. Not an average user

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The speed and the UX/UI. As someone who used to be a dev and is now in sales, I still really enjoy using OS' like Kubuntu.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

I'm not sure if it's a dislike, but for non-dev folks or people who aren't the most computer savvy, it's not the most welcoming OS

This system is based on Ubuntu, a very stable system for programs and daily use in the company or home.

  ### 37. Easy to use, familiar for Windows users, built on the versaitle and dependable Ubuntu foundation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raymond K. | Proprietor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu boasts the famous KDE PLasma interface that is much like the Windows 10 interface with a taskbar at the bottom, menu button bottom left but it's so much more. KDE Plasma is famous for being the most configurable interface available today. It's slick and smooth, highly functional and easy to get used to.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

The latest Kubuntu 19.10 did not get released with the latest version of KDE Plasma 17.1 but that is easily remedied by adding the Kubuntu backports repository.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

If you want the most logical, easy to use interface in the Linux world, go for Kubuntu. It's hands down the easiest Linux to use even for beginners.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu is very flexible and with a couple of tweaks, it's quite possibly the fastest you could make any computer bar none. The trouble is it takes some investigating and research to get a system to that kind of cutting edge performance. Stock Kubuntu is extraordinary and with some tweaks, it's even better.

  ### 38. Kubuntu has been neutral for many years since last used 2016

  ### 39. I really love it, love KDE.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The whole desktop and look and feel. Not problem with my working environment (I'm a Java programmer, in my current we use Cassandra and docker), never had an issue so far. It's not hard to install I get my laptop replaced.
My company works with all Microsoft software (in local machines and cloud), they even suggested us to migrate to Windows and use Windows Subsystem for Linux, but all the Linux users complained and they couldn't do it.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

No much to dislike. Only that with 18.10 (also with Ubuntu, so it's an issue with the kernel, something changed there), the apps in the docker containers can't see the local dnsmasq, so the containers can't connect Cassandra, and I have to start a dockerized Cassandra. I know there is a work around, but it wasn't straight forward. Before this laptop, I had Kubuntu 18.04 and no issue of this type.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

In my experience, I never had issues with Kubuntu, I find it's UI fancy, cool and friendly. Easy to find things. Never in 5 years I had an issue with my development environment.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me Linux was always better for Java environment, more stable than Windows. When I first started with Java, I used Ubuntu, until they left gnome 2 in favor of Unity, I didn't like Unity nor gnome 3. So I started using Kubuntu. I also feel more comfortable and safe surfing the net with a Linux based OS.
But I also use it in personal computer (dual boot with Windows 8), and my own laptop.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Some bugs in copying and moving larg number of files which may causes loss of data. It actually rises from the caches on the disk memory, when you think everything is done and the task of moving of the larg amount of files to another drive is finished, it still copying the files on the background which you may are not aware of so you must be very careful.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Just try it once and you would be in love with Kubuntu.
