I was looking for affordable separate hosting for a discounts site. I was not sure that idea would work at all and needed something I could afford to lose money for (yes, the idea did not work!) I found IONOS WordPress hosting and was able to set up a separate site for under $20. The hosting is very reliable, and plugins are updated automatically. Besides, the site works reasonably fast. I was able to set up the purchased theme without problems.

Another thing that I really liked is that when I needed to wipe out the site several times, this process also went fast and easy with IONOS. Also, WooCommerce came free with the package, which is a real bonus.

I mean, what do you want more than this. It's free domain. And not just their domain, but they provide great hosting as well. Since they manage your website, they block some plugins for safety reasons, but in my opinion, they draw the line too far. (I couldn't properly install Wordfence due to lack of permissions).
