Lacerte is very user-friendly and what I like best is the "jump to" feature on the output forms. If you need a value on a certain line but don't know where to enter it on the input sheet, you can right click and select the "jump to line" feature. Lacerte also offers a handy checkmark took that allows you to check off numbers you have reconciled which makes reviewing very efficient - I always know where I left off. You can also prepare customized footnotes easily. Lacerte is also very attentive about updating their software based on the most recent tax law changes, more so than other tax prep softwares. I don't like how you're not able to "override" values directly on the return. I also feel like Lacerte isn't the strongest option when preparing multistate returns - I get kind of confused even whilst working on maybe 1-2 different states. I think it has more to do with the way the state input is organized. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I can input the data to prepare most returns within 10-15 minutes, so Lacerte helps me be very efficient in my work. Robust diagnostics help check for potential errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The cost is very high and goes up every year. REP charges (pay per return) are absurdly high.
Support is ridiculously slow for the price we pay. Most calls to support result in holding for at least 30 min to get even the most basic answer.
Update process has been buggy for several years across multiple computers. I usually have to try updating/installing updates 3-4 times before if will succeed. Support has been useless in solving this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Lacerte has accurate and updated calculations, as well as promptings to look at potential forms which might be needed for filing.
Lacerte's diagnostics are above and beyond any other software I have worked with. With guiding questions to give completeness to the return.
Also included is an analysis of every return prepared. This will compare the return to the IRS database averages for similar returns filed. This gives tremendous insight to potential missed information or possible pitfalls that could flag the return with the IRS.
Customer support, and the Lacerte community, are always quick, friendly and very accurate with any issues I might run into - usually becasue of operator error :-)
Finally, there is contunued Professional Education credits offered through Intuit each year as part of the package. Through these classes I learn new fetures and tips, and get my CPE hours! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The price is a little higher than I was hoping, but I find it well worhth the extra cost when compared to other software applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
NOTHING - IT IS THE MOST SCREWED UP SOFTWARE I'VE EVER USED!!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
EVERYTHING!!!! Nothing hardly works at the start of every tax season. It does stupid updates every day that take forever. The support staff is nuts and can never get anything resolved until you call multiple times. Then, they constantly contradict themselves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ease of use and set up are intuitive and the learning curve is quick. Its coverage of states and forms is very broad and is a great software whether a 1 man shop or a firm of 25. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The absolute single worst shortfall is the lack of an electronic organizer that is either mac-compatible or agnostic (so web-based versus Windows based only). Intuit has been very slow in integrating Mac - just now have a QuickBooks offering that is "average' still far inferior to the windows based version. It really is boggling - if you search suggestions - users have been clamoring for a Mac-compatible tax organizer for a decade now.
Another shortfall is the incohesive community search - many times other users have the same issue and you should easily be able to find their solution (versus calling and waiting during busy season) but when you search the google machine and you see a solution in the headline upon clicking you get a notice that the page is no longer available - historical solutions vanish into thin air even though google has a record of its existence. I've spoken to reps and they acknowledge this is an issue. Incredulous. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My firm has been using lacerte since before I was born. It is the industry standard for tax professionals, and sets the bar for other tax preparation software. I would highly recommend it to any tax professional with a relatively high volume of clients (100+) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are often times updates that become available at inconvenient times during the work day. Also, the program will occasionally crash and become buggy etc. almost arbitrarily. I would recommend becoming familiar with the Lacerte support team! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that I can track the status of everything happening for each individual client. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don’t like the appointment part of the program. It is incredibly outdated and slow and not user friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The charge for what you need feature is great for a company looking to prepare their own tax returns. The software is easy to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The trial balance import feature is difficult to work with and time consuming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like being able to customize my screen. I can add/remove columns to save from switching between other views. One can also customize the color theme Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I do find it annoying that loading screens for updates always stay on top and prevent one from working on other things during the updates... very irksome. Also, we have a couple of clients with huge returns, at least 40 states, and every year our IT guy has come in and adjust/fiddle with one of the settings to allow the return to load properly, why Lacerte puts a default limit on the memory usage is beyond me.
