I use Insightful for employee activity tracking and some reporting, and I like its ease of use and robustness. The initial setup was very easy for my team. We switched from HubStaff because we liked the features Insightful had, mainly the apps usage portion which we did not have in HubStaff.

I like that Insightful is very detailed, consistently providing new information and data. Its usage interface is awesome.

**What do you dislike about Insightful?**

I wish there were new reporting options and more detailed worker absence options, like for national holidays, vacations, and religious holidays. The initial setup was easy, but we needed at least 2 months to learn all the options. I still don't know all the possibilities because I never have time to check it all.

**What problems is Insightful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Insightful to solve idle time, non-productivity, loss of important info, and for tracking presence in the office.

I like that Insightful is easy to use. The platform is very useful upfront, which is really appreciable.

I don't see any elements that aren't working as well because Insightful is quite new to us. We have only set it up for 2 months and I don't have a daily use yet.

I like how Insightful categorizes apps and websites into productive and non-productive categories. It's pretty accurate with auto-labeling them, which is quite helpful. The initial setup was very easy, which I appreciate.

I don't like that the DLP features are only available for custom plans. If we could get the DLP features as an add-on for all plans, that would be great.

I don't like that the schedule of each employee can't be adjusted per day. It could be more efficient.

The platform's ability to integrate seamlessly with Jira simplifies importing tasks and ensures efficient workflow management. These features, combined with the critical insights it offers, make Insightful an invaluable tool in the current era of remote work.

I find the integration with Linear to be lacking as it is not ready yet. This is a significant concern for me because I need this integration as soon as possible to fully utilize Insightful with my workflow.

I find Insightful easy to set up, which makes the process quick and professional. I appreciate that other programs require logging into an account when downloading Workplus, but with Insightful, just downloading it is enough. The initial setup is straightforward; I just install it on the device and handle the rest through the website GUI.

I think Insightful could improve how it handles multiple devices for staff. The work time should sync better across different devices.

I wish I have better dashboards for individual performance. Its alot of checking. I wish I had an AI bot in the service to ask questions about the screenshots and overall view of different people.

I didn't find anything useful with the app. It doesn't do the basics.

**What do you dislike about Insightful?**

I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Insightful (formerly Workpuls) demands a public warning to every business owner who is considering this app for employee time tracking.

❗ The Problem: You Will Overpay Employees for Time They Didn't Work
The biggest and most dangerous issue with Insightful is how it treats scheduled shifts. If you assign a scheduled shift (say, 8am to 4pm), and your employee clocks out for lunch, Insightful doesn't end the shift or subtract the time they were off the clock.

Instead, the system continues counting that time as “idle” — but still within the shift, meaning it is included as work time in reports. In other words, your employee could be completely clocked out, and you could still be paying them as if they were working, based on Insightful's reports.

This is not just a bug — this is a system design choice that can quietly cheat you out of hundreds or thousands of dollars over time.

🧩 Customer Support's Explanation Makes It Worse
When I contacted customer support about this obvious flaw, they told me my employee should use the “break” button in the app rather than clock out.

But here's the catch:

That option wasn’t even visible or available in my employee's app.

The default behavior — what any normal person would expect — is that clocking out stops the work timer. Not with Insightful.

Instead of acknowledging the issue or fixing it, support said they’d “pass it along to the development team” and defended the system’s current behavior.

💰 They Refused a Refund
When I pointed out that the software misrepresented work hours and caused potential financial losses, I asked for a refund of the fees I paid. Their answer? No. No apology. No accountability. Just a polite brush-off.

🐛 Oh, and It’s Buggy Too
In addition to the core issue of misleading time tracking, the app itself is buggy. The interface can be inconsistent across devices, and expected features don’t always show up (like the missing break button). This leads to a poor user experience, both for admins and employees.

⚠️ Final Verdict: Avoid at All Costs
If you’re a business owner trying to track time accurately, Insightful is not just ineffective — it’s dangerous. It misrepresents work time, inflates hours, and exposes you to unnecessary payroll liability.

The very foundation of a time tracking app should be accuracy and trust. Insightful fails miserably on both counts.

I have canceled my account and am actively exploring alternatives with accurate time reporting and transparent break handling.

Don’t learn the hard way like I did. Stay far away from Insightful.

We’d like to clarify that our shift scheduling feature was designed to help businesses compare scheduled hours with their actual work — whether employees started early or late, worked overtime, undertime, or had larger periods of inactivity. This gives our customers more visibility into how closely scheduled time aligns with productive time.

Many of our customers, especially those using Insightful for payroll purposes, base their compensation on Productive Time or Utilization %, rather than scheduled hours. This allows for a more performance-based approach to payroll.

Regarding breaks, we understand your concern. In order for the Break feature to be used properly, the employee must have the necessary permission enabled in their settings, and then double-click the Break button. We acknowledge that this workflow may not be intuitive for all teams and are actively working on ways to make it more seamless and visible across all devices.

As for the refund request — we genuinely regret that you felt disappointed. While we’re unable to issue refunds for the full period of past usage, we’d be happy to explore together how Insightful can better support your needs. Time and Attendance sheet section lacks name search/ sorting, sometimes Clock-ins aren't accurate - it'd be null or reflect a different clock in despite switching between Day & Shift View. Employee timezone change within clockin period can mess up the sequence activity view (ex. Employee clocks in 10pm, then changes timezone from +7 to -7, so it reflects as if the Employee skipped a time, instead of the shift going along with the timezone change, since it hard reads the employee's Device timezone), My Manager decided not to use the shift schedule feature, since it auto clock-ins the employees - that defeats the purpose if they punched or not. We have some employees complaining it clocks out, or button doesn't trigger, usually happens on days your insightful app has a new version to update with, or if their OS has to update - I ask them to relaunch.

The simple interface is a plus for me, and I like the desktop app that has super easy play and stop controls. It was easy to download and install, which I appreciate.

I DO NOT LIKE that it treats me as a unit that punches a card. It is not very employee-centric at all, not to mention deeply non-human centric.
Plus, does not have CALL-TO-ACTION buttons, it feels to much like something I have to learn to use - as if created by programmers (who I respect, but it needs modernizing and being present to our expectrations today.

It is a bit (or a alot) unclear what the different views offers, there is no GUIDANCE, feels like I have been dropped into spreadsheet.

**What do you like best about Insightful?**

Insightful has made tracking employee productivity seamless and highly transparent for our remote team. The automatic time tracking and activity levels give us valuable data without micromanaging. I appreciate the clean dashboard, detailed reports, and the ability to distinguish between productive and idle time. It also helps us optimize workflows and detect process bottlenecks. The ease of setting up teams and permissions was a bonus, and their customer support is responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Insightful?**

While Insightful provides excellent visibility into time and activity levels, one major limitation is that there’s no way to detect if someone is using an automatic cursor movement tool to simulate activity. This creates a gap in truly verifying active work versus artificial input. It would be a huge improvement if Insightful could flag or prevent the use of these types of tools. Additionally, we’ve noticed occasional delays in data syncing during busy periods.

**What problems is Insightful solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Insightful has helped us solve the challenge of managing and monitoring a fully remote team across different time zones. It gives us accurate tracking of work hours and productivity without having to manually check in with every employee. The ability to view real-time activity and attendance data has streamlined our payroll process and ensures accountability within the team. It also helps identify bottlenecks in workflows and gives us clear data to optimize performance and resource allocation.
