In addition to this Birst has a very nice user interface that allows me to interact without any errors. Another element in favor is that I can have very accurate closed schedule analysis for time savings. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** The product is somewhat complex at the beginning, however it is normal since its functions are a bit overwhelming. Also occasionally, there are delays in the user interface when applying filters that often lead users to think that something is very serious, just wait a few seconds and that's it. Sometimes there is not enough documentation to generate questions or find answers already classified. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** It is a very good tool in general. Our client's experience is excellent, it involves interactive panels and reports sent by email. Therefore, I recommend it because if my clients are happy, me too. It is a totally recommended program. It is capable of connecting to a wide variety of different data sources, and has options for procedures strong. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Currently, we can report and distribute sales numbers to individual account executives, as well as provide sales management views. We are good that we can perform cost-benefit analysis with respect to ad-based campaign numbers. It is a very functional program at the organizational level and finally we use it to visualize data through panels that customers access from our website. ### 2. Most customers will use it entirely in the cloud and will use their automatic DW solution. For complex data situations, like ours, it can be used more traditionally, designing the DW manually and hosting the application internally on our own servers. The DW schema can be specified manually and then Birst will create the necessary ETL automatically to create that schema from the given data sources. And it can connect to all kinds of sources, both in-house and in the cloud. Once the DW is there, Birst has great tools for creating dashboards and reports, or for letting end users play with the data and create visualizations of their own. It really does do it all and can put together an end-to-end solution much faster than any other BI product I've ever seen. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** Birst has some quirks that can be annoying. Their naming of certain things is not standard and it can create confusion in both conversations and in learning how to use it. For example, what Birst calls Hierarchies would be called Dimensions by pretty much any other solution. And it doesn't necessarily have to be a hierarchy, so it creates confusion. Also, although a solution can be created quite quickly, there is likely to still be a significant amount of work needed to tweak the model to get the best performance, so the solution it creates isn't necessarily the end of the effort, it may really be the beginning. The querying language used is not traditional SQL. In many cases this query language will never need to be used directly at all - Birst automatically creates it wherever it's needed. But for performance optimization in their non-automatic DW schemas, and behind the scenes in customized objects, it needs to be used - and it's a challenge. Their implementation consultants have been fantastic, but their support group definitely needs improvement. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** Every two weeks (I think?) Birst releases improvements to their products. Every single patch that comes out has included significant improvements. This is a product that is moving in the right direction very, very quickly, and is VERY responsive to customer suggestions. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are currently rolling out Birst as a part of our SAAS application in order to provide dashboards for our clients based on their data in our application. Our data set is HR data. It will provide us with a platform for rolling out useful dashboards to our customers that are informative and eye-catching. There is more analysis time now....There is more time than ever to think about your goals. Most of the customers that bought Birst changed their minds. The Cloud is OK now for them. You've got to find out this by yourself but being critical is always good. Our clients choose Birst when they want analytic dashboards which don't increase workload on current hardware or manpower. Birst has a SQL-like back end scripting language that it calls BQL which is very flexible. Whatever one might want to do with their data, it is possible with BQL. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** Relative to it's competitors, Birst is not quite as mature as a product. There are some things that require a bit more effort than they should. For example, making most front end objects or flattening a hierarchy on the back end could be easier. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** Total cost of ownership should be considered when considering Birst. What you save in headcount and infrastructure costs, you lose with a long term deployment. You pay x dollars per year each year rather than a 20% maintenance fee. Consider your investment horizon. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** Like any Business Intelligence technology, Birst is only limited by the type of data it has access to. It will take any type of data and provide analytic capabilities into it. Specifically, Birst integrates well with other cloud applications. Salesforce, Marketo, and Netsuite for sales, marketing, and finance enterprise data management can all be pulled into Birst quickly. This provides immediate benefit since these products do not allow dashboarding and analytics out of the box. ### 29. Most data structures are support for import and the engine itself runs on a variety of back-end databases, enabling users to fit the tools to their environment and still keep it portable. 5) Cloud-based tools and development mean I can work on projects anywhere there isn't a language barrier, and am not restricted by geography. 6) Ahead of the curve - Birst opened in Gartner's Magic Quadrant last year, and is poised to fall into the Leader quadrant once their revenue is over $100m. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** 1) No MDM built in. It's still possible to address the ideas, but rather painful and laborious. 2) "BQL" is missing some standard features of database engines like data windowing or table expressions. Again, these can still be addressed inside their environment (by running each level in separate scripts, for example) but it can be more tedious. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** Not every company is ready for business intelligence, and that usually comes to the table in terms of sticker shock. The annual product license fee makes some people balk, but it's because either 1) they'd be under-utilizing the product, or 2) they're not accounting for the overhead of how many people it takes to run traditional BI products. Total cost of ownership is actually lower, in spite of the price tag. For those looking to have an on-premise solution (usually only applicable to massive datasets, but some company cultures still don't trust "cloud") they also have an "appliance" VM that can be used instead. That cost does not include the license for whatever database you want to run on though. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a Birst partner, we've been helping clients solve problems we didn't necessarily know existed. The latest project I've worked was originally aimed at government reporting requirements for a college in California, but rapidly grew to fill internal needs when they realized the power of dynamic reports. ### 30. It's not required to install anything in the desktop or laptops so developers/users can start their tasks quickly. Also DWH/ETL part can be handled in the birst compared to other BI tools. one of the best feature is visual filtering. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** some basic features are missing like concurrent sessions is not possible and cache clearing is additional activity for the developer for appliance version. Also Documentation is very less for appliance version. Need to add some more basic features for developer friendly. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** I would recommend this product for medium and small scale organizations only. if Data privacy is important then you can opt for the appliance version. Problem on admin or setup you face for appliance version is more compared to cloud based. Mostly i recommend cloud based version of Birst not the appliance based one. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use birst appliance version 5.8 and my activities involve importing the new tables/views into birst data model. Design the birst data model and create new reports and enhance the existing reports as per the user requirements. Also i interact with the sales/marketing teams for clarifications on requirements and to improve the reporting usability. ### 31. All database drivers come included with Birst so you don't have to pay any third party for the drivers. Being able to plug our data from Salesforce into Birst was huge because Salesforce really restricts which data you can pull. With Birst's OBDC driver for Salesforce we were able to create much more sophisticated reports and dashboards than Salesforce would allow---even beyond custom reports types in Salesforce. In addition, we were able to incorporate a lot of our financial data that currently doesn't sit in Salesforce. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** Birst, like most enterprise software tools, has a huge learning curve. The product is fairly intuitive, however, I'd definitely recommend taking advantage of the training they offer. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** This product is a huge improvement over other premise systems like Cognos. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have used Birst for two companies I was apart of. One company transferred from Cognos to Birst to have better access to business information (without a desktop install). Our key challenge there was forecasting sales data (# seats in a call center) against capacity constraints housing in a proprietary financial database. Another solution was running global sales dashboards for a e-learning educational company that had 2 CRMs (Saleslogix and Salesforce) and providing a single view of sales and service goals. ### 32. The ability to to shift where the workload is hosted provides a great amount of flexibility. The architecture of the appliance when self hosted supports rapid upgrade cycles with control over when you upgrade, providing more control than a purely cloud based solution, where all tenants are upgraded continually. This helps meet internal change management requirements that are sometimes at odd with a pure play cloud implementation. **What do you dislike about Infor Birst?** The implementation partner model is well documented but even at the high level of partnership, it seems better to go with Birst Directly. **Recommendations to others considering Infor Birst:** We didn't determine where we would install (cloud or on premise) until very late in the game. I would suggest that if you have the option, consider your internally hosted versus cloud decision early on. **What problems is Infor Birst solving and how is that benefiting you?** We need rapid access to building new insights into the business. Birst is replacing much older BI tools and access to more interactive, self service dashboards will enhance our end user experience greatly. Unlike other BI Platforms, the Birst solution can 'self discover' insights and patterns in the data bridging the product from a pure BI Dashboard tool to include functionality in Data Discovery. ### 33. It offers a lot that the bigger more traditional vendors don't. It's easy to try and scale.
