## Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring Reviews
  ### 1. Icinga is immensely useful as a watchdog service that informs about outages asap.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Georg R. | Senior Data Scientist, Utilities, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2023

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

I prefer very much its scalability. It can handle large-scale infrastructures with thousands or even tens of thousands of hosts without any performance degradation. This makes it an ideal choice for businesses with complex environments or those that are rapidly expanding.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

One disadvantage of Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring is that it has a steeper learning curve compared to some other monitoring tools. This may be due to its wide range of features and flexibility which can make it difficult for beginners who are new to infrastructure monitoring.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The major benefit for us is its real-time monitoring capabilities which allows us to detect issues before they turn into critical problems. Furthermore, Icinga provides detailed reporting tools that make it easy to track trends over time and identify potential problem areas in your infrastructure. Overall, if you're looking for a reliable infrastructure monitoring solution that can help you keep your systems running smoothly while providing flexible customization options then I highly recommend giving Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring a try!

  ### 2. Icinga - A Powerful Network Monitoring Engine

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jaspreet S. | Network System Engineer, Internet, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

1) Powerful Infrastructure Monitoring engine for On-Premise and SaaS-based Cloud Applications.
2) Excellent Analytical capabilities to identify trending patterns for reporting and insights.
3) Customized Notifications and integration to outbound platforms like Slack, ServiceNow etc., for quick actions.
4) Great Community Support.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

1) Improvements are needed on the User Interface part.
2) You need to be a command line user for faster installation.
3) Documentation needs a little advancement to resolve problems quicker.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1) It is an ultimate monitoring tool. We get underlying information about the processes, daemons, and services which helps us to determine the issue proactively to take action before user initiated triage.
2) Icinga has great Activa and Passive Checks functionality, which makes NOC life easier.

  ### 3. Good Monitoring tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Ability to integrate the various custom metrics & reporting tool which supports multiple monitoring aspects. I have used Memory, CPU, and Disk IO metrics to be shown in Icinga.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Alerting system is something that I couldn't find in the version I have used, perhaps Alerting could be a great add-on capability such as Mail notifications & PagerDuty alerts etc.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By integrating a central Icinga platform, we can easily show all our Application Servers in a single interface so that we do not have to worry about the application's respective owners constantly monitoring the metrics. Have a big Monitor in Workspace & open this application there & have more extensive visibility in office.

  ### 4. Icinga Experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Icinga is free to use, no costs and limts

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Complicate Setup because of many combined products

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gives an overview of the health of the infrastructure

  ### 5. Icinga2 - a very good solution for Monitoring in large environments

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wolfgang W. | Systemspezialist Monitoring Tools, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Icinga2 is open-source, so the costs are manageable, and the product itself is permanent in development. If something's going wrong or there are failures, it's no problem to reach the developers.
It's very reliable; we are a huge company (Gouvernement) and need reliable solutions. With two icinga2 hosts, we can manage over 44000 Services and 3500 Hosts.
It uses the same checks as Nagios; if a service-check isn't available, it's easy to write one.
Our admins could write checks, too. They use bash, PowerShell, Perl.. or whatever for scripting; it doesn't matter. With the windows agent, we can use PowerShell checks, with Linux agents bash or similarly.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

It's not very much I dislike. Sometimes i feel we could have better modules for icingaweb2, but it's not the blame of the Icinga-developers. Sometimes we have to sponsor when we need functionalities, but it's opensource!

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With other solutions, we've had those problems:
- we haven't enough licenses for the number of hosts, Icinga doesn't need Licenses, but you could make a contract for support with Icinga partners.
- we have had many stability problems with other products, no problem with icinga2
- we had to pay very much for extensions (for example, MySQL monitoring) with other solutions in the past. Now we write it or use monitoring plugins from Icinga, consol-labs,...and so on.
With Icinga we are working with our admins; we can monitor what they want.

  ### 6. The most complete open-source monitoring system

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dylan E. | Security Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

It is open source and free, meaning the software is easily extendible. All Nagios plugins, as well as all the community plugins are usable with Icinga. You can use alot of advanced features, including check scheduling, notification escalation or a very detailed user access and management system. It is very easy to extend the system with extra checks or hosts due to the templating system.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

The setup of the software can be quite complicated depending on the OS you are deploying on (I deployed on Alpine Linux) and the documentation for this is not complete. After setup, the initial learning curve is quite steep and takes quite some time. For instance, you need to create a notification template to create a notification object to create a user template to create a user, etc.

**Recommendations to others considering Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring:**

Do a small pilot before trying to add too much at once. Also consider adding meta-tags to objects, so you can use these to define conditionals.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Icinga as our monitoring system for each of our 25+ servers. It performs manual and automated checking and notification of abnormalities. The performance data generated by these checks are stored and visualized in Grafana dashboards for business insight.

  ### 7. A great user interface design software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanaa W. | Information Technology Project Manager, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

As a free, accessible, and full open sourcing project, Icinga Monitoring offers many organizational monitoring solutions, particularly for hosts and simple analytics alerting, as well as reliable codebase to the decentralized control. I feel like Icinga Monitoring is simpler than other software and it has the most simple securities functionalities you need. Also, It has some good features to use Active Directory or LDAP for accesses.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

The learning process is quite high, as with any complex software package. The culture of Icinga Monitoring is good, but it is very difficult to find specific answers for many of the concerns quicker.

**Recommendations to others considering Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring:**

Icinga Monitoring is the resource that every SysAdmin of every technology company that is looking to get a central tracking and surveillance system. Nevertheless, because of the outdated notions inherent in these systems, I would not suggest using it in every case, because it won't be able to cover all needs for specific cases.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Icinga Monitoring is one of the user interface design software for our external management. It is mainly used by our strategic management group, but more and more research and design departments are linked to supervise their activities. Our Windows Group actively wants to support the existing platform and adapt it for its applications, and that's when Icinga comes into play. Once set up, a multi-configuration that's done using Icinga Monitoring as it can lead to a very available and durable surveillance system.

  ### 8. easy to setup and configure, easy to integrate, responsive GUI, administrator friendly

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Márk L. | Network Design Engineer, Telecommunications, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

One of the best advantage is we have only one ticket instead of more in case of the devices are related to each other during the outage. Easy to navigate on the GUI. It is really easy to setup from the very beginning and easy to make the configuration. We can connect it with lots of 3rd party tools. It is easy to integrate and very simple the structure of the Icinga. It has very good and transparent documentation, if we get stuck with something, easy to look into on the Internet.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

It would be really good if we get more function for the basic system. There are lots of useful function is not build in, so we need to add them with plugin.

**Recommendations to others considering Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring:**

I would recommend it for everybody and every type of network from the very small to the complex large networking. One of the best open source Monitoring tool what I have ever used. It is very simple and useful. It is easy to implement and easy to maintain. I would say it is user friendly, people who has no knowledge about it can easily maintain and operate.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can check that the network devices are available. We can check with Icinga the operation of the Other IT devices/hosts such us UPS. Monitoring of services is one of the biggest benefits for our company. We are able to respond immediately in case of any issue.

  ### 9. Reliable Monitoring with a pretty dashboard

  ### 10. Icinga is great, icinga2 is better.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben K. | Information Security Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

I've worked with Icinga in multiple organizations, spanning thousands of devices. I love the configurability of the Icinga framework, although for admins new to the platform it may seem intimidating to edit the config files.

Icinga2 brings additional features that help automate and configure with less flat file configuration needed but neither product should be brought in lightly. They both require a lot of work up front to be tuned in such a way as to provide benefit that can be mapped back to business requirements. Fortunately, there is a plethora of documentation available as they are widely used.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

The flat files can be intimidating, and the web interface plugin is not very intuitive. Easy to script and automate, however.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Icinga has helped my team identify problems in our infrastructure early on so as to remediate before the issue escalates. It also helps provide insight into the root cause of an outage as you can best and map devices to logically show flow.

  ### 11. Monitoring complete Infrastructure with Icinga and Icinga2

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

I have used Icinga and Icinga2 heavily in my previous experiences. It helped to migrate all monitors from nagios to icinga2 with lot of automation from frontend . For example Importing probes from Icinga2 director was very useful. It saved lot of time and can import 1000's of probles with single click. I was very happy with distributed monitoring feature specially using master and satellite zones concept.Overall It helped to completely monitor infra, app, logs ,url etc with ease to integrate with CM tools like ansible and alerting tools like pagerduty, slack etc

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

I sometimes had difficulty in finding information related to bugs over internet. Found less blogs or articles related to icinga2. Sometimes debugging becomes a pain

**Recommendations to others considering Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring:**

Icinga is great monitoring tool.It can be used as centralize monitoring platform and has lot of compatibility with nagios plugins which is pretty useful. It can monitor any metric and lots of customization is possible because of architecture. it offers good integration with different open source tools in space of configuration management, alerting, containerization etc

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Migration from nagios to icinga
- It helped to solve problem of centralize monitoring(Had multiple Icinga monitoring servers in diff zones and couple of icinga master servers in master zone for high availability)
- I never faced problem of downtime because of such a robust architecture
- Icinga CLI helped a lot to backup dumps and restore to database (Backup and restore automation was easy from director) rather than backing up object defination files

  ### 12. The good point for monitoring large environment

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Icinga2 is really useful and also has clearly documents for starter or newbie who wants to monitor the large network and services environment.
It's also support distribution monitoring modeling, this very helpful for scaling and growing of automation services if needed. Almost you needed that container by this platform with Icinga2 core, IcingaWeb2 frontend and ton of amazing plugins from official or community. It's really good.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Time to response when has many interval time of checking services seem like little bit of increase and may cause unusable results with some nearly real-time checking. It's still more difficult to optimize that.

**Recommendations to others considering Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring:**

Read carefully Icinga2 documents and select products and solutions with open API or intergration without limited. Please don't depends on only one vendor or product.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Uptime and states of many devices and services on the large network environment is the best resolved issue. It's really important and helpful for us. It's also give us more time to improve our way of working and effective of the human resources.

  ### 16. Icinga administrator feedback

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Icinga allows use a whole range of Nagios checks, plus is has much more comfortable visual interface, including a visual configuration tool (Icinga Director)

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Icinga Director doesn't support some important function, e.g. configuration of regular maintenance time slots or dependencies of entities, despite the fact that Icinga itself allows it

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Well-timed and reliable monitoring is a key of a proactive support and maintenance

  ### 17. Icinga, the alternative to Nagios

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

The large number of plugins/modules it supports, the number of systems it can integrate for monitoring:

* Networks
* Network components
* Notifications
* Alert levels
* Interfaces

The significant improvements it has over Nagios, and the compatibility with its modules.

**What do you dislike about Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring?**

Some alarms may have a delay, depending on how large the monitoring system is, and they can give false positives, although in Nagios the same thing happens, it doesn't reach 100% real-time but rather 90% or 95%. The large number of views it offers can sometimes be more of a disadvantage than an advantage, as in some views certain alarms may appear and in others different ones...

**Recommendations to others considering Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring:**

If you have Nagios, I would migrate to Icinga for several reasons, but the most notable are its complete free availability, the large open source community behind it continuously developing the application, and the great support it has thanks to this community of users and developers. Additionally, the number of modules it has is infinite, allowing you to check a large number of systems, networks, freezer or stove temperatures, etc.

**What problems is Icinga Infrastructure Monitoring solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to monitor the organization's networks and refrigeration equipment, with high monitoring performance, reaching hundreds of monitored devices.
